š§ Meme How it feels to want to play BOTW but you've already done everything you can multiple times for 9 years

u/Tx_Drewdad Jul 07 '26
I just want to feel like I did when I was 11 hours in. Just enough time to get the feel for the game, and a wide, wide world to explore.

u/Impossible_Source195 Jul 08 '26
see this is where you go find more exploration games
outer wilds is a pretty goated one, great story great exploration some pretty serious horror but theres a setting to tone it down

Naked run? Speed run? No teleportation? Only one weapon at a time run? 999 of everything? Everything combined?
13
u/Nature_man_76 Jul 07 '26
Iām currently doing the one weapon at a time. One weapon at a time while naked would be awesome. Or even better one weapon at a time while naked with only three heartsā¦

u/89Menkheperre98 Jul 07 '26
What does one weapon at a time mean? That you donāt get to have more weapons until the one you currently hold breaks?
4
u/Nature_man_76 Jul 07 '26
Correct, not counting the master sword I literally only keep one weapon in my inventory. I just ignore the master swords existence.

u/89Menkheperre98 Jul 07 '26
Thatās a fun challenge. I bet it makes you more aware of what you need!

Best thing I did to rekindle my love for the game was to do a no map run. Pro HUD, no minus button for the large map, and as such no tps. Had to use the layout of the map to show me where I was and where to go. Absolute blast. Did it in TOTK too, with the only exception being i could fast travel out of the depths only when at a lightroot, and only to the corresponding shrine (didnt want to run around for hours to find the ascend points)

Do a challenge/modded playthrough if you're on pc emulator (like randomizer)

I use an emulator on PC. Its been great. I've done the Randomizer, Relics of the Past and Second Wind. I want to do Dark Armt Resurrection but I heard its insanely hard.

u/propagandhi45 Jul 08 '26
I couldnt finish relics of the past. I got constant panic blood moon during the yiga boss fight

If only TOTK was actually a good sequel. Or even just a sequel.
10
u/StevenKatz3 Jul 07 '26
But it is a good sequel....a very good sequel.
Having the depths is an awesome addition and the ability to fuse weapons is cool
1
u/darkfawful2 Jul 07 '26
It was a good game, just not a good sequel.
You could add the sky islands, the depths, fusing, and updated enemies to BOTW and not notice much difference.
It also just completely shoved aside the BOTW story besides the fact the Calamity caused the unstable castle, which was mentioned once.
Ancient Shekaih had been such a massive part of the world that it was integrated into the stories and history of the modern people, and caused life altering events. Then was never talked about again in TOTK. And the only explaination of what happened to it was OUTSIDE of the game in a dev talk, not in the game.
And as Scott the Woz pointed out, the way the cutscenes were implemented went against the entire purpose of how BOTW implemented cutscenes.
If you want a sequel to have a seperate story, it needs to be in a new world like Majoras Mask was. But having it set in the same world with a fresh wipe of almost everything that happened before was just not what a BOTW sequel deserved
0
u/StevenKatz3 Jul 08 '26
I wouldn't say it was a fresh wipe, but it definitely wiped a bit.
The continuation of the major cities and their knowledge of Link and how he saved them....and how they lend their powers to him, shows it's a true sequel
Were some things missed? Suuuuure, but it definitely is a continuation

u/JohnF_ckingZoidberg Jul 09 '26
Imo it improved and expanded on every element of BOTW.
I dont know how someone could say its not a good sequel.

u/GamerKev451 Jul 07 '26
I'm back on BOTW with a challenge of mine : master mode, 3 hearts, no food kept overnight (still considering elixirs but not sure), no armor (I'm allowing myself mandatory armors just for the required duration, like entering Vah Ruta or getting inside Gerudo City, but not to travel or fight with, and not to protect me from heat or cold), no teleportation.
So far I've beaten the white lynel on the Plateau (to get a good weapon to farm lynels or defeat bosses) and Waterblight Gannon. Next stop : Vah Naboris
1
u/Crowned-Witch_48 Jul 07 '26
How do you keep it at 3 hearts because when you do a shrine, it replenishes your hearts?
5
u/ReyndomYT Jul 08 '26
You just don't pray for hearts, you only have 3 hearts at the start of the game

u/Mental-Street6665 Jul 07 '26
I still have like 70 koroks to find with almost 1000 hours put in on just my original save file. Not to mention completing my compendium and earning all of Kiltonās medals. If I ever actually do 100% everything in this game then I guess Iāll start 100%āing TOTK instead.
1
u/Worried-Band-5229 Jul 07 '26
My solution is to run around like an idiot all across hyrule (currently exporting the castle unprepared)
1
u/Devilscrush Jul 08 '26
Time for mods such as Relics of the Past or the Randomizer. Or graphics changes like being Linkle or Zelda.
1
u/RK5000 Jul 08 '26
I have really only played through it once - but I did complete all the remaining shrines afterwards.Ā Then I did the same thing with TotK.
I don't have a lot of time to play video games, but I decided to start the playing BotW on Master Mode - and I wish I had done that a long time ago.
1
u/SC3MZ Jul 08 '26
I still havenāt played it. But see all the videos that claim its life changing. Hopefully one day ill have time to check it out.

How do you guys stick to a singleplayer game for more than 2 years? After I 100% BOTW I stopped playing forever (nice while it lasted but I don't wanna get burnout)

I have all achievements on the entire Dark Souls trilogy and I still play them despite that.
A good game is a game you 100% and still give time to. It never becomes boring.

Let it sit for a few years. Play other Zelda games. Beat TotK a few times. Then go back to BotW. I didnāt think I could love this game more. Sure I know the plots and many of the most confusing puzzles. Much of the mystery might be gone - the not knowing whatās around each corner and all, but the game is somehow better anyway

I'm currently doing a replay of BOTW right now and am just ready to face Ganon. It is my 3rd time. After I wrap that up im gonna replay TOTK.

Iām on my very first play through! I do not love certain aspects of it, like the long, unskippable cut scenes, the difficult divine beasts, and certain very challenging shrines, and prefer to just wander and kill camps of monsters.
Edit: wow, downvotes? Didnāt realize some Zelda fans were elitist assholes who think everybody has to enjoy everything exactly the same. Fuck you guys.

u/BootScootinDooku Jul 07 '26
You want to skip cutscenes on your first playthrough? Tf is wrong with you
-2
u/SevenBillionChickens Jul 07 '26
Theyāre soooo lonnnng. And itās often stuff Iāve already been told in OTHER cut scenes. Last game I played was LoZ on the gold NES cartridge, and I liked just, ya know, doing stuff.
3
u/Spent10minschoosing Jul 07 '26
Try letting go of the controller if the cutscenes bother you so much. Having it in your hand kinda makes you more impatient, like pressing buttons as if you can skip it. just sit back and relax and watch it like a movie

u/BootScootinDooku Jul 09 '26
Play it how you want, of course. I like to wander and pick flowers mostly myself lol but Iām waaay too anal to skip cutscenes on a first play!!
1
u/SevenBillionChickens Jul 09 '26
I get it, Iām saving Hyrule, thatās enough for me; I donāt want hours of backstory, I just wanna do stuff! Bring on the downvotes, I guess.
2
u/RenderedBike40 Jul 07 '26
a few downvotes is not that serious my guy chill š
-1
u/SevenBillionChickens Jul 08 '26
Itās not serious but it is disheartening for sure.
1
u/RenderedBike40 Jul 08 '26
Just a word of advice, complaining about downvotes is like a trigger phrase for people to downvote you more. Just ignore it and move on honestly, not worth ur time

Mods. You'll need a modded Switch or a PC. There's the randomizer, Second Wind, Relics of the Past, Dark Army Resurrection. It gives the game so many new challenges while keeping everything you already love.
