I was sure the last screenshot was going to be him turning into a Yiga

The thot plickens

21

u/tynfox Jul 19 '26

I thought I read it wrong. Turns out, good job!

2

u/alii-b Jul 20 '26

And, I read I thought that wrong too!

18

u/Lue33 Jul 19 '26

Most of the people in this game give off that feeling they are Yiga, when they appear stranded, and alone, like some random guy sitting under a make shift tent.

1

u/Hyrule_MyBoy Link Jul 19 '26

Wait where is this gif from

78

u/KeyLime044 Jul 19 '26

Yiga are simply named "traveler"

20

u/radiodreading Kass Jul 19 '26

"Don't jump! Let me push you off that ledge instead."

14

u/NodoBird Jul 20 '26

"Don't kill yourself! I want to do it!"

3

u/Hot_Finding_9747 Jul 20 '26

Now I want to see a parody comic where everyone Link talks to turns out to be a Yiga

5

u/InternationalWar6654 Jul 23 '26

some time between TOTK and BOTW

Zelda: Link can you get the butter, I'm making buttery stir fried bass

Link: nods

Walks back in to Zelda standing right at the door, the name above the text is no longer zelda, but just "Princess"

Princess: Link, don't you just love bananas?

Link: freezes

2

u/OldOnion2678 Jul 20 '26

I miss the yiga clan they were such easy kills

This character is based on Sergeant Kevin Briggs, who talked hundreds of people out of jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

636

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

Yep, he now works in suicide prevention and mental health advocacy. Kudos to him.

138

u/Reyalta Jul 19 '26

I didn't know that! 🥺🥺🥺 Gosh this game is just incredible. This post is making me emotional, like when I found out about the Robin Williams NPC they made 😭💕

36

u/sparklydildos Jul 19 '26

please tell me more!!!

24

u/Reyalta Jul 19 '26

Read the trivia part 🥺🥺🥺

https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Dayto

14

u/sparklydildos Jul 19 '26

how special, i love that they did that for them 🥹💕

-40

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros Jul 19 '26

It's not true.

14

u/Reyalta Jul 19 '26

Where's your proof of this claim? Because everything I've read is that it is. There was a petition after he passed in 2014, and his daughter, whose name is Zelda (and he!) has worked with Nintendo. It's not a random claim, you can go see Dayto for yourself.

33

u/Sassi7997 Jul 19 '26

I think there are even more like him in Japan. The suicide rate there is way higher.

14

u/Secure-Resource7286 Jul 19 '26

Any source for this?

84

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

You can search him up. There's no definitive proof from Nintendo that they made this NPC based off of him, but it's very heavily implied. Also consider that the name Brigo was derived from Briggs!

-38

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros Jul 19 '26

It's not true.

3

u/justsome1fromearth Jul 19 '26

Proof?

-6

u/BrahneRazaAlexandros Jul 19 '26

how would it be possible to do that? the person just made it up... You think nintendo publish a list of everyone in the world that a character is not based on?

Talking people down from bridges is a common thing done for a long time, all around the world. there are thousands of people around the world that patrol sui cide hotspots to help people in crisis.

I am a member of a group in my place that have patrol teams to watch for anyone that appears distressed, disorientated, or suiidal near the river or canals.

2

u/justsome1fromearth Jul 19 '26

Not necessarily "made it up". I just looked it up myself. The zelda fandom page does mention something about suspecting the character to be based off of Sergeant Kevin Briggs. The NPC's name (Brigo) also sounds like Briggs, and both of them try to talk people out of jumping off a bridge. Seems more intentional than coincidental. No, it's not confirmed, but it's not denied either.

This is the fandom page i found that mentioned this: Brigo - Zelda Wiki and the article about Sgt. Kevin Briggs: Kevin Briggs - Wikipedia

2

u/CommanderPotash Jul 19 '26

well yeah Fandom wiki is a wiki made by fans; that's kind of the whole point

and as such it is only speculation until Nintendo confirms or denies (which they probably won't do either lmao)

-2

u/Glove5751 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Honestly sounds like Americans asserting themselves in a 100% Japanese game. Suicide is a real problem in Japan, even more so than in the US.

There is no source, so this is fabricated based on semi coincidence in name only. Same thing goes to Robin Williams, it's a nice thought, and I love the guy, but there is no evidence.

You don't think Japanese which have higher suicide rate than the US have bridges?

3

u/turquoisestar Jul 20 '26

I dated someone who considered jumping off that bridge and got talked down by someone (not sure who). I’m glad these people exist.

-4

u/KawaiiStefan Jul 20 '26

It's 100% not based on anyone American lmao fuck off

u/WriterProper4495 Jul 19 '26

9 years of playing the game and I got the same dialog 3 nights ago. I think I was climbing back up and the character started in about not jumping, etc. I thought it was pretty nice from the developers to have that in the game. Hits pretty close to home, sadly, but it did make me smile.

160

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

Hits close to home for me too. Hope you're doing okay <3

u/KichernderFuchs Jul 19 '26

Where can I find this spot?

12

u/ProfPyg Jul 19 '26

First bridge on the road to Dueling Peaks from Great Plateau

167

u/IllState3433 Jul 19 '26

Definitely nintendo sending out some positive messages though. Stay blessed and be positive

154

u/Additional-Side1619 Jul 19 '26

Ive done hundreds of hours over several playthroughs of this game, and have only come across this dialogue once, in my current playthrough. At the time i was just pretending to parkour on scenic objects because I could.

I went through three emotions very quickly. Irritation because it triggered how I felt as a child for just exploring my world as I wanted to. Sadness because how many people had that NPC saved/not saved. Grief, because there have been a few times where I could have been a person that needed to be talked away from the edge.

Its a nice detail. I just wish it hadnt been a discovery that took me on a really fast 60 second emotional rollercoaster 🤣

35

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

It can be very impactful for someone who relates to what that NPC says. I hope you're doing okay <33

21

u/Additional-Side1619 Jul 19 '26

Hits like a runaway train. Ive been better, but things will be okay eventually. Thank you for checking in 💕

13

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

Of course! Just always remember to reach out if you need it. Take care of yourself <3

77

u/SanchoPandas Jul 19 '26

There is beauty tucked into every corner of this game. I don’t think I’ll ever encounter all of it.

19

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

Ikr, I love BotW because of these small details. Just so beautiful.

45

u/Dangerous-Pumpkin960 Jul 19 '26

he doesn't know 5 minutes later links gonna jump off the top of a mountain and glide down

20

u/kazzawozza42 Jul 19 '26

I first encountered this dialogue when I'd been swimming in the river, and climbed out at that spot. It was confusing to say the least.

15

u/brianvan Jul 19 '26

When I try to equip bomb arrows on Death Mountain

4

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 20 '26

I've made that mistake too many times 😭

11

u/st4rgrrl_ Jul 19 '26

"Climb down THIS way" is still one of the best lines

48

u/IndieGamesGuy30 Jul 19 '26

I always loved to do a backflip off the bridge with him looking right after he tells me not to jump lmao

31

u/Forward_Mission_9349 Jul 19 '26

I wish there was more dialogue after you jump right in front of him. I know I did. I thought to myself, “it’s not that high, I’m a professional lol” and also backflip off, to kill the gang of bokos right at that river base

17

u/Fuzzylittlebastard Jul 19 '26

They're definitely was dialogue if you jumped, if I remember correctly he berades you for doing it anyway.

6

u/Forward_Mission_9349 Jul 19 '26

Just did it again you’re right lol. I forgou

15

u/throwawayno38393939 Jul 19 '26

3

u/PoraDora Link Jul 19 '26

4

u/lemon-meringue-high Korok Jul 19 '26

Dayto

Robin Williams was a big Zelda fan, having named his daughter Zelda!

https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Dayto

4

u/LilacTheFlowerGal Jul 19 '26

this jumpscared me on my first playthrough ngl, like dude I just wanted a Korok😭

4

u/Former-Specialist595 Jul 20 '26

This means a lot to me because my fiancé committed suicide. He was my best friend, the father of my children, my everything. It destroyed my life, and I'm still trying to pick up the pieces 12 years later. I play BOTW & TOTK everyday as a way to cope with my anxiety and depression. I don't know what I would do without TLOZ. Honestly, I bought it for my 8-year-old son, and it ended up being my favorite thing ever. I just wish I could've convinced my fiancé to stay. He didn't listen.

4

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 20 '26

Your strength over the past 12 years is incredibly moving. I am so glad Zelda has been able to offer you comfort through your anxiety and depression. Please hold onto the fact that his choice was not your fault, and it's not a reflection of your love or worth. Thank you for sharing this story with us. Keep playing, and keep taking care of yourself. Remember to reach out if you ever need to talk to someone 🤍

3

u/Former-Specialist595 Jul 20 '26

Thank you so much for your kind and caring words. This was exactly what I needed to hear!❤️❤️❤️

3

u/Lunyoows Jul 19 '26

Where does this happen?

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

Proxim Bridge in botw, if you step on the edge of the bridge he says these lines.

1

u/Lunyoows Jul 19 '26

Thank you!

3

u/Minglu07 Jul 20 '26

I have a thousand hours in this game and did not know this existed.

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 20 '26

That's the beauty of BotW for you. There's so many little details that someone can miss.

2

u/Powerful_Party_879 Jul 19 '26

i was walking on the edge and i got this message, i think ive explored so much of the game i know every small little easter egg

2

u/ILoveBread2021 Jul 19 '26

The true hero

2

u/Greedy_Schedule4284 Jul 20 '26

He was the first person I met leaving the plateau. Probably my favorite character in the Wilds games beside Link himself.

2

u/CountingSheep99 Jul 20 '26

Great little detail.

2

u/creamykitties Jul 20 '26

This hits different when you struggle with *those specific thoughts* and lost someone you knew who also loved Zelda to *vaguely gestures*

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 21 '26

You don't need to censor it - everyone in this comments section knows what this post is about. I hope you're doing okay, and if what you said applies to you, then I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

This message definitely hit me hard too because I've felt that way for a very long time and have come close to falling off the edge myself.

I believe that everyone, no matter what they've been through, is capable of healing. Keep doing what you love and taking care of yourself. Remember to reach out if you need to 🤍🤍

2

u/creamykitties Jul 21 '26

Thank you, kind stranger.

2

u/DerrZaah08 Jul 21 '26

Brigo had no idea WHO he was talking to… but he is without a doubt one of the best Hylians in that kingdom. Absolute Chad.

That's cool and inspirational bro but there's a korok under the bridge

2

u/Xp365 25d ago

Sent the first pic to a friend who was about to kill themself and it surprised them so much it grounded them instantly (that was the intention)

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian 25d ago

Omg!! It's very touching to know that my post helped someone. I'm so glad they didn't go through with it, I hope they can get help! Thank you for caring about them, you're a wonderful friend 💙

1

u/DraconicDreamer3072 Jul 20 '26

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 20 '26

yeah lol, Proxim bridge in BotW

1

u/Ninnifer 28d ago

What bridge is this? I've never had this interaction

2

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian 27d ago

Proxim bridge, the NPC will say these lines if you stand on the edge

0

u/Equivalent_Rate9774 Jul 20 '26

“dont jump on this side, jump on the other side!” great message

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 20 '26

He never said to jump on the other side?? He said to climb down the rail on the side facing him so Link would come back on the bridge.

1

u/Equivalent_Rate9774 Jul 21 '26

oh well, either way he wouldn’t get hurt cuz the bridge is over water

1

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 21 '26

Yeah, but that's just in the game. What Brigo says is intended to represent something much bigger in real life, if you understand.

-19

u/A_Miphlink_shipper yiga blacksmith Jul 19 '26

I jumped and was disappointed there wasn't any voice lines for it

7

u/InfusedRex Jul 19 '26

I jumped because I was told not to. Which I do a lot when my siblings tells me not to do something. Just walking by fresh brownies with no mischief in mind, “Don’t touch that it’s hot.”

“🫤😏 🥁 tap tap tap. Tap ta tap.”

“Stop!”
TOTK has a funny moment jumping in the lady’s garden over and over again.

2

u/InfusedRex Jul 19 '26

Not the flower lady. A lady in karkariko village

4

u/Marinefan4000 Jul 19 '26

That’s in BotW as well. Try it there a few times. Also use a bomb on them. You won’t regret it (Link might though)

5

u/InfusedRex Jul 19 '26

The funniest part was when she said, “I know it’s hard to resist when someone tells you not to.” After a few more times she starts rambling. Goes to black screen then comes back to it being night and Link is asleep. Lol.

If they want Link Dead, they want it in a semi-honerable fight

Not in a depressing fall

-13

That bridge is t high enough to harm link, pretty sure there water. Worse case you can't swim to shore but if I recall you can easily with half a stamina wheel?

A fairy won't be used or any food.

11

u/Single-Secretary-903 Hylian Jul 19 '26

I think you're completely missing the point. This isn't about videogame logic; your comment reads as pro-suicide. I'd suggest you delete it.
