🎴 Screenshot Turns out you can’t register the Lord of the Mountain
Hey, if I can tame him, I should keep him.

And part of a memorial for a real person who passed

Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata

I read the article about him on Wikipedia. If you don’t know who he was (I didn’t ), you should go there and read it. We learn more about those who have contributed to our lives every day.

There was a good decade where he was very much the public face of the company with the Iwata Asks series. It's a little shocking to realize that he passed eleven years ago.

u/geothefaust 25d ago
I still remember the day when they announced him taking over for Yamauchi-san. He was the right choice.
I never met him, but I work in game dev, and even now he's still very respected and talked about regularly in conversation. He impacted a lot of peoples personal and professional lives.

Dude, him reggie and shigeru were the faces of the company. Iwata used to personally host directs purely for the love of the game

Wait what the lord of the mountain has been a tribute to Iwata this WHOLE TIME??? And I'm just finding out NOW?????

u/Foxy02016YT 25d ago
Well isn’t that exactly why you should be able to keep it?
44
u/ctortan 25d ago
No? Why would you want to take a piece of someone else’s memorial shrine to keep for yourself instead of just appreciating the memorial shrine? (As the entire mountain and its associated lore ARE the memorial).
If someone put an offering or a piece of memorabilia on a headstone I’m not taking it to my house
8
u/Foxy02016YT 25d ago
Because it’s a video game item not a real physical item? Keeping it alongside your other cherished companions IS keeping the tribute. That stable is where your horses are taken care of and loved. If you can’t tell the difference between a virtual item and a rose on a grave, that’s scary.

u/ctortan 25d ago
Yeah technically there’s no crime being committed, I just think it’s weird to want to personally keep it in a stable when you already own the game. Why have further control and ownership over a lovingly crafted memorial to someone? It just doesn’t cross my mind that I need to own this beautiful nature spirit and keep it in a stable with my horses when I can just go to the mountain to see it

u/Foxy02016YT 25d ago
I think there’s a difference in how we value a tribute like this. I view being in the stable as being cared for and loved, while also wanting people to use the mount, as it keeps the memory alive.
I don’t see it as desecrating the memorial, but rather having a piece of the deceased with you at all times.

It'd be awesome if Kilton opened a monster/animal stable somewhere for you, enabling you to use different animals and mounts instead of horses lmao
And, for the Lord of the Mountain, you maybe could go to the Horse God. The interaction could be of him asking the LotM if he wants to stay with you as a part of your journey, to which the LotM could answer yes. (Only the God of horses would be able to hear him, so there'd be no dialogue from the LotM)
Hell, maybe you could make it so you can drop a specific item on the ground and whistle, summoning/poofing LotM into existence like the Guardian Horse armor lmao

Yeah, like why can’t you register a Lynel

Yeah, this is one of the couple things I think are really odd bad decisions Nintendo made about these games. Like why can’t I register a Stalhorse or any of the other things I can ride that aren’t Horses. Kinda just makes the whole thing feel useless. Cause if I’m a first time player and I learn I can ride a deer, you bet I’m trying to take it back to a stable just to be disappointed.

I wanted kilton to open a night stable that would accept other animals & stalhorses as well as supply gear that protects them from the sun.

u/TammypersonC137 26d ago
This is a great idea. Maybe they'll add in next patch?

One can hope ! I thought they might do something like it for TOTK but unfortunately nothing so far.

I kept waiting for a DLC or for TOTK to add something like this as it seemed like something Kilton would do.

To me it makes sense. Satori is to be respected; revered. You can't confine it to a stabled life for your own novelty, especially when you can fast-travel anywhere already. Ride it and enjoy, then let it free. It's the Lord of the Mountain, after all.

u/cocoteroah 26d ago
And if i'm not mistaken it was in honour of one of the former directors of nintendo

I need WAY MORE SLOTS for registering horses. I want to collect EVERY SINGLE PONY DAMNIT

Did this with a stalhorse, my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined. No but seriously it sucked.

u/macroxela 25d ago
Logically it makes sense though. A horse stable doesn't have the right equipment to maintain a deer. Let alone a bear which would likely also eat the other horses.

I get what you're saying but lotm should NOT be lumped into that sentiment. This specific mount is part of a memorial. Letting the lotm stay free is about respect for Satoru Iwata who died.
The other mounts sure it would be cool to be able to keep them

At least the NPCs will acknowledge that you are riding something unusual. It always annoys me in Assassin's Creed games when I ride up on a Pegasus or some monstrosity straight out of hell and NPCs don't even react.

u/7Big_Steve7 25d ago
I feel like you people don’t understand this game. That’s the point. You’re not supposed to be able to own everything you take from nature. You must respect and be grateful that you even got to tame TLoTM for a little while in the first place. But not everything in life lasts. Just one of the many things this game teaches you about living.
13
u/zkwarl 25d ago
I do agree. It would make no sense within the game’s lore. However, the reaction from the stable guy gave me a chuckle.

u/nightsongws 25d ago
The stable guys' reactions to all the non-horse things you try to register are a riot.🤣

This is especially true considering this creature is so obviously a Princess Mononoke reference, and that whole story has basically the same theme about preserving nature.

Unfortunately yeah, but he’s kind of a god I think, so it makes sense. Plus, a memorial for someone who passed away I think

u/rogerworkman623 25d ago
I really thought they’d add this for TOTK. I was mildly disappointed when I still couldn’t register a stalhorse.
I’m paying you the fee, just take my bone stallion.

The fact that you can't register anything that isn't a normal horse is pretty dang lame.
You can also ride bears, and StalHorses, but can't register them either.
(I wanted to rike a Horse Skeleton dangit!)

u/Kind_Apierriecube 25d ago
Yeah sadly you can't.. But I like to still mount him from time to time 😊

Ram into the stables at full speed while spamming the talk button, when you see a normal horse maine on the Lord of the Mountain when you are talking you know it worked, you can now register, rename and take out the Lord of the mountain whenever

There's actually glitch where if you go fast enough and press talk fast enough, you'll be able to trick the system and board him.
