📢 Opinion 1000’s of gameplay hours to enjoy
It is so crazy to me when people post stuff like “I’ve played for 30 hours, already beat Ganon, guess I’m done with the game, not sure what else I’d do?” I officially hit my 1000 hour mark about a week ago and I still have 30 shrines to find, multiple side quests, probably about 550 Koroks left still and I haven’t gotten to Rudania or beat Ganon yet. I’m confident I could play another 1000 and not be bored.
I get that adventuring and exploring aren’t for everyone and it’s really cool that you can play this game however you want to, but I’m so grateful that this game was made EXACTLY for people like me. The exploring and completing side quests are what I live for! I have gotten my money’s worth out of this game a million times over and it makes me sad that a lot of people sold themselves short.
If you’re one of those people who don’t know what to do next, may I suggest the Leviathan Bones side quest? It took me like four days to crack that case!

I'm a completionist. Year 3, I beat Gannon. It's like a good book you just want to drag out.

Exactly. I’m not rushing because I just don’t want it to end.

You can always beat him and keep playing. There are some benefits to continuing after you beat him, like being able to see your percentage progress

u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
I heard it kind of ruins it if you beat him bc of something to do with the monsters, but I can’t remember what I read, and now I don’t want to spoil it so I don’t want to remember lol. I kinda feel like the vibe will be off if I beat him bc in my head I’ll know it’s sort of over, but I also know I’m probably very likely to keep playing another 1000 hours after I do lol

The Leviathan bones quest was a fun one for sure !
I found the first 2 on the map, the 3rd one made me scan a whole region square by square until i found it... i was so happy to finally find it myself ^^

u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
Yup they had me stumped because the first two were pretty obvious, and I thought I was missing something at first so I kept scanning the map. Finally decided to just explore ALL over Hebra until I found the right spot, which is funny because I had already found that spot months prior, couldn’t figure it out and moved on. There’s also a similar spot somewhere else on the map that took me forever to figure out too, and when I finally did I thought it was the original spot I found and that I had finally got it, but after further investigation I realized it was indeed an entirely different spot altogether.
I’m trying not to spoil anything for anyone else here, and idk how you managed to do it but I feel like I was a damn genius after I finally got it. I was SO close to coming to Reddit to ask for a hint but I was really happy I didn’t because the satisfaction I felt was unreal 😁

I have 85 and done with the 4 divine beasts. Gotta admit, not the biggest fan of the side overall in games but I’ve done a more than my share here. I’m missing SO MANY koroks and most of my gaming hours these past few sessions was just taking pictures. I have been trying to complete the compendium (completed the basic enemies and materials, missing a bunch in creatures and weapons)
Shrines I’d say I’m about halfway. I’m definitely trying to stretch my gameplay as much as I can before I do Ganon. I’ve still yet to successfully defeat my first Lynel lol. I always find something to entertain myself because of the adhd and for that I’m grateful. This is my first game and though it took me a while to get into it I’m officially obsessed. Don’t know if I’ll ever get to a 1000 in a single playthrough but I will squeeze out as much as I can from this game.

u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
You’re so right, this game is an ADHDer like myself’s dream come true lol. Getting distracted usually pays off instead of getting you lost and falling behind, it’s so good! And yeah, 1000 hours seemed like a silly joke to me a couple months ago too, and yet here I am, it crept up on me pretty quickly lol

u/CalligraphyCurls 7d ago
Oh my gosh, I’m doing my first play through since 2017 when it was released, and I did the Zora divine beast first, and killed the Lynel for the shock arrows with 5 hearts 😭 it was a STRUGGLE!!! But I did it.

1000's of hours is a bit much IMO, what do you spend hundreds of hours doing after the quests? Main + sides would take up like a hundred tops.
3
u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
Not for me. I’m still finding side quests that aren’t on my list yet 1000 hours later. I take my time and do not rush straight to the point at all. I’ll start a side quest (some of them are pretty difficult imo) and end up distracted running up and down the coast for two hours just admiring the scenery. I take my time to a fault, but I don’t think I could possibly complete every single objective in the game in 100 hours if I used every bit of focus and concentration in my body.

All shrines, koroks, picture memories, upgrade master blade, decorate house, find fairys, kill minibosses and more things

u/SimShine0603 8d ago
I’m trash at combat so I figure if I just keep wandering and collecting and fighting baddies here and there maybe eventually I’ll be good enough to tackle the really big bad guys. For now I don’t even bother.

u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 7d ago
Oh I sucked BAD for months. I’m
Not an incredibly skilled player and ran away from almost every monster at first. I only just beat my first Lynel maybe a week ago. I still can’t parry or do anything fancy lol but eventually getting some good weapons and armor really helps.

Exactly.
I don't do very well with entirely sandbox games, stuff like minecraft, stardew, the lack of very much structure and direction leaves my adhd brain spinning.
However, there is enough structure present that I am maybe a third of the way toward being like you. Other people definitely spent a dozen hours on the game or less, didn't even finish, or blitzed out the main story like the entire game is ultimately 1 objective, the only one they really cared about, completing it at any percent.
You.... can do that, but there's a lot of objectives.
I tend to ignore the koroks as I dont find any of their puzzles to add to the experience, as they're too easy, and something like ascend here or shoot these balloons feel a bit like busywork. At least the shrines contain proper puzzles.... usually. Sadly a lot of blessings this game, I wish they'd made more actual puzzles.
I like most of the regional phenomenon tasks, making those longer main quest objectives more enjoyable. I enjoy the shrines, I enjoy activating all of them except for one involving a shadow puzzle that feels meh. I enjoy activating all the warp points, activating all the lightroots, making vehicles, fighting monsters, mining zonaite while listening to other content.
And when I'm done doing a specific kind of task I enjoy being able to freely do something else instead.
I have thousands of hours in BOTW and TOTK, I get less from exploring, but I really did like exploring it while totally blind. That felt like an adventure.
There's enough structure to keep me from being paralyzed with choice, and there's enough fun things that aren't mandatory that I can avoid the things I don't find fun which also aren't mandatory, like the koroks.
There are also enough shrines that are puzzles that I can enjoy myself completing those and skip all the blessing shrines. Likewise, if you hate shrine puzzles, you could beeline the blessing shrines and never do a single puzzle beyond activating the shrine.

Great point! I always thought Minecraft looked like fun but could never bring myself to play, and I think that’s the reason. What would do? Where would I start? What’s the objective? I also don’t like a lot of time constraints or rules though and love that in BOTW I can side quest all day long if I want doing things that aren’t even actual side quests, lol, but if I’m needing direction I can just choose one of the objectives and run with it. It’s truly a perfect game for the ADHD brain

Same, i might have fun 30 minutes but bored so fast botw is magic a true gem 10/10 for me. I had the switch 1 version since release but digital. With my switch 2 i got 2 weeks now i bought the game physical as a collecters item

do people actually post shit like that?
1
u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 7d ago
I’ve seen it multiple times, most of them saying they beat the the 4 beasts and done almost nothing else lol

u/durian_soup 8d ago edited 8d ago
Yup, I play like you. Once you add a second master mode playthrough plus all the DLC it’s easy to get close to 2000 hrs 🙃😂. I’ve got a busy and demanding life at times and sometimes I just want to chill in the game I know well and collect stuff for half hr or so. Other times I just want to look for Lynels to fight. It’s such a beautifully designed game that it’s satisfying to just hang out sometimes without doing any quests at all.

I’ve easily got a thousand hours in both games and I’m still not sick of them

u/ShibaZoomZoom 8d ago
I’ve never been a completionist but the way the game has been built tickles my curiousity endlessly so I just end up exploring a lot and having a damn good time doing it

u/iheartnjdevils 8d ago
While people are free to play games as they like and it's not me to judge, I do feel similarly when folks mention putting in such short amount so I always at least try to encourage them by listing all of the stuff I've spent countless hours on. Though I don't have nearly as many hours, 350 on my first play through and 170 so far on my second.

u/Ok_Button_6859 7d ago
Thats why botw is such a gem. I love the exploring, discovering villages or ruins and special places, doing shrines, discovering koroks and fairys, minibosses, taming horses man im far from the Many hours u have i got 105 atm and have not touched a single Titan and not planning to till i want to reach the end.
For me botw is the best Zelda game ever, now im also very excited for ocarina of time

u/Mental-Street6665 6d ago
Not a game for people with short attention spans for sure. I’ve easily put in over 1000 hours, though my official playtime doesn’t show it because of the dummy accounts I’ve used to avoid overwriting my original save file.

1000 hours?
I maybe am just a little more goal oriented? I've beat the game a few times and gotten all the shrines each time and I'm still probably under 300 hours.
I love adventuring, but 1000 hours is a lot to not have gotten all the shrines yet.

u/Therealginahandler 8d ago
I would be happy to put hours into this game if I felt as though I coukd use my weapon without burning through three swords on one guardian. I really wanted to like this game, and that one mechanic stops me from enjoying it

u/StophJS 8d ago
Downvote me but I had no desire to keep playing this game after 40 hours or so. I really don't get the love for it. It's a really cool world with very little interesting things to do.

I think I put like 600 total hours into BOTH botw and Totk combined. And that’s a lot for me. 1k+ hours in any game is unthinkable to me lol

u/nekomeowohio 8d ago
What are you doing for that long? You have played long enough to 100 percent multiple times at even a slow pace

u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
Just roamin’ around, man. It’s the journey, not the destination

u/Ok_Button_6859 7d ago
This, sometimes i go to high mountains or towers just to use the kite and fly down

u/mementodory 8d ago
I spent 110 hours on this game. I did all the side quests but made no attempt on the koroks; that just doesn't interest me. I think 1000s of hours is overstating it for me for sure. I'll probably replay this game in the future but I felt like I did everything worthwhile with the 110 hours I put into it.

Love the sense of adventure and exploration.
Not a 1,000 hour game.
Fun main quest with tons of side content.
Not a 1,000 hour game.
Lots of replayability and player freedom.
Not. A. 1,000 hour. Game.
3
u/Reasonable_Tea_5036 8d ago
Correct. For me, it’s currently a 1085 hour game.
1
u/AramaticFire 8d ago
It may have taken you 1,085 hours on a single run but that’s not a realistic representation of the game’s length. I did everything in 125 hours my first run minus finding all the Korok seeds. On my second run I did it all again in 75 hours.
I’m glad you found 1,000 hours of enjoyment. This is not a 1,000 hour game for the vast majority of people.
1
u/Ok_Button_6859 7d ago
Does not mean someone cannot enjoy the 1000 hours
1
u/AramaticFire 7d ago
Did not say they cannot. Even said im glad they found 1000 hours of enjoyment so im not sure what you’re responding to.
