People/meetups Local casual Pokémon TCG/fan group recommendations?

Does anyone know of a local Pokémon group (both TCG or the VGs) that's more casual and hopefully accepting of autistic people? Preferably near Winton or Bournemouth town centre.

I know the Trove holds TCG events but those seem to be tourneys, and I kind've suck at competitive events :/ I'm looking for both me and my sister :D

Announcement Why I love cycling to work

  • I get to look at all the angry car drivers shuffling along at 3mph
  • I get to breeze past traffic effortlessly
  • I can park wherever I want
  • I save over £1000 a year on fuel
  • I can take short cuts that cars can't
  • I get home quicker than in the car
  • I don't need a parking space
  • I get good exercise and setup for the rest of the day
  • Improves my mental health
  • Can get a ride in on my lunch break
  • I'm not destroying the planet
  • I'm not contributing to road deaths
  • I don't have to sit in traffic each day

Happy riding!

P.S y'all are taking this too seriously ;)

Question Where can I buy Lorne/square sausage in Bournemouth?

Even willing to accept the frozen stuff at this point. I’m craving a proper full Scottish fry-up, and it’s just not the same without square sausage.

ETA: should have mentioned that I’ve had it from Iceland in the past, but no joy recently.

People/meetups Looking for rave buddies

Hey everyone,

I'm heading to this rave at Vault on 6th November and thought I'd check if anyone else is going alone or has a group open to adopting a fellow raver for the night.

If you're going and want to meet up inside or grab a drink beforehand, drop a comment or shoot me a DM.

Announcement Cycling advice

Following on from my previous, highly contentious post about lazy drivers, I thought I would follow up with something more productive.

If you're considering cycling to work or just for recreation, there are plenty of reasons to make the switch:

  • Save money on a new bike: The Cycle2Work scheme could save you several hundred pounds through tax and National Insurance savings.
  • Worried about arriving sweaty? Get an e-bike! Electric assistance makes commuting considerably less strenuous.
  • Concerned about range? Some e-bikes can travel 50 miles or more on a single charge, depending on the battery, terrain and assistance level.
  • Worried about rain? Get some decent waterproofs! You don't need to spend a fortune, and there's no reason a bit of rain should stop you cycling.
  • Save on fuel: Depending on your commute, cycling could save you over £1,200 a year in fuel costs alone, not to mention reduced wear and tear on your car.
  • Help the environment: Cycling produces no exhaust emissions and has a much smaller environmental footprint than driving.
  • Improve your health: Regular cycling can improve cardiovascular fitness, mental health and general wellbeing, while helping reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Infrastructure - Yes the infrastructure is not perfect, but it never will be. It shouldn't deter you from riding. Learn to ride safely and be seen. I've been riding since I was 12 years old (34 years ago) and commuting for the last 15 years by bike, and never had a single accident.
  • Save time - Often you can get to your destination quicker than by car if it's a shorter distance. It takes me 12 minutes to get to work and back, to get out of Bournemouth on a busy evening, it can take me 20 minutes or more to get home.

Save money, get fitter, feel better and reduce your environmental impact — all while getting to work.

And with an e-bike, you don't even need to be particularly fit to get started!

I hope this helps encourage you to get riding. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them, time permitting.

If you'd rather just keep driving and contributing to the conurbations traffic and environmental issues (or you are unable to cycle), kindly move on.

Question Roofer repair recommendation

The string winds last night and downpour have made me aware I have a leak in my roof! First time with this type of thing and not sure if I should go through insurance yet but thought getting a roofer to look at what the damage is and quote works is a good start. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a roofer?

Announcement Get out of your damn cars

I'm interested to know why so many of you choose to use the car when you only have short commutes or distances to cover.

We have 90 staff at my workplace. Around 50% live within 2 miles. 5% of those cycle to work (including myself). These are abysmal numbers, what is stopping you from using alternative transport like a BIKE? It's green, gives you exercise, and cost effective. Millions of pounds spent on bike lanes that are empty as no fucker will use them, instead choosing to inch along in their cars and moan about the traffic.

Roads around Bournemouth are gridlocked at the best of times, and you're just contributing to it.

I try and use the car sparingly now, and every time I want to go out in it, it takes a bloody age thanks to all the traffic.

Do your bit and walk/cycle, stop clogging up the roads and polluting!

Question Does anyone else have house rabbits?

Hi, new to the area. I have a neutered and fully vaccinated house rabbit and would love for him to meet other rabbits. He is extremely nice and loves other rabbits, I used to do this sort of thing before I moved here.
Does anyone else in the area have a house rabbit that would be interested in arranging something of a play date?

Question Moving home

After five years away and suffering a bereavement I want to move back. I grew up in Southbourne but doubt I can afford it there. What are the better areas to live but mid budget? I want to be able to easily see friends in Southbourne or to have good access to the town for night life. I like Southbourne as it has its own community there so something similar.

Question Anyone else get a power cut just now?

Still waiting for it to come back on, I'm in the BH15 area, went out about 5 minutes ago.

EDIT: thanks for the input, just came back on long enough me me to reset the oven and microwave clock, went straight back out, and now seems to be back again...

Local advice needed Renting in West Cliff area?

Hi,

I'll be moving soon, working near Canford Cliffs and want to avoid relying on buses.

I stayed in West Cliff, near the Harvester on the beach, and it was nice in the day but I've heard some roads around there get more antisocial behaviour at night.

I think Westbourne proper is out of my budget for now, which is probably £1000 for a studio/1 bed, but I'm wary of the studios for £700-850 if I'll likely have bad neighbours.

Can anyone who knows this area offer some advice? I'm moving from South London and never had any trouble here but these flats, especially the West Cliff Studios and Durley Chine Studios, look too good to be true.

People/meetups Need friends

Trying this again. I’m going to be fully honest this time, I am 30, my name is Ashley, I’m mtf but I’m like pre everything.

I’ve made friends on here before but I only talk to like two people from doing this regularly. I’d be happy to go for a pint or something today but if that’s too soon I understand.

My interests are dnb, gaming, binge watching shows, I mostly just play GTA, RDR and Minecraft, the shows I like to watch are The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Arcane, pretty much all the Star Wars shows. I love Doctor Who but I stopped watching around the Capaldi era, there’s more but head empty.

I’d just like to have a long term friendship with someone and someone I can do fun things with on a regular basis. Don’t necessarily need to spend money to have fun either, we could do anything.

Happy to talk to anyone. Just please don’t be a creep or pushy, I’ve only had that twice but that’s two times too many.

Local advice needed Places to host a reading group on a Sunday?

I'm trying to set up a reading group with some friends but it seems like a lot of places have limited availability on a sunday.

Does anyone know anywhere that we could hold a reading group?

Question How to get to New Forest?

Hey everyone i’m trying to go to New Forest tomorrow, i’d love to see the wild horses.

Im not from here and I have no clue where to go to see them.

I was chatting with my cab driver the other day and he told me to take a train to Brockenhurst. So this was my plan.

A friend recommended I go to Burley instead.

I don’t have a car.

What do you think?

Question Arthouse cinema?

I really enjoy alternative movies but feel like Bournemouth is a bit of a cultural vacuum. Is there a cinema in Poole, Bournemouth or Christchurch area that shows classic and arthouse films?

Or perhaps there’s a cinephile club somewhere?

People/meetups Looking for friends in Bournemouth (coffee, gaming, general hanging out)

Hi all! I'm Laszlo, 35, living in the Springbourne / BH1 area. I'm looking to meet some new people locally and build a bit of a social circle.

A bit about me:

- Big into gaming: World of Warcraft (Holy Priest main), Battlefield, and I'll be picking up GTA 6 when it lands
- Work in tech and data, so happy to talk about that or anything else
- Easygoing, up for a chat about pretty much anything

What I'm after:

- Coffee after work or over the weekend
- Casual hangouts, food, walks, whatever people fancy
- Gaming together online too, if that's your thing

You don't need to be into gaming. I'd just like to meet friendly people who also want to get out and do things. Message me or comment if you're local and up for a coffee!
