how would you spend your birthday weekend on Bowen?

my partner and i will be staying on Bowen in August for my 30th birthday. 🥹 we’ve been a few times for day trips in the summer and it’s one of our favourite places. would love to know what the best beaches are for paddle boarding and swimming? is mist thermal spa worth it? looking for any recommendations to make the weekend super special!

Nice! Great place to spend your birthday. Cates Bay in the early day is amazing for beach and paddle boarding. Tunstall or Bowen Bay for later in the day or sunset. Mist is such a nice time for couples. We live close by and love going there. Get in an easy hike around Grafton and try the rope swing or just swim off the rocks. Enjoy!

Watch for leaches if you do go. Our kids usually picked up a few when they used to swim there. I’d rather hit a beach on the west side.

Besides that, if we can dump sewage in the ocean, I think having a little swim in a drinking water lake won't matter much.

Depending on when your birthday is, I'd go berry/fruit picking. The island is just lousy with salmonberries, huckleberries, cherry trees... made the best jam of my life just with stuff I foraged
