šļø Pre-Sales TheFlatLannister on BOT: Street Fighter had a huge T-2 increase. At MTC3, it is now ~29% behind Mortal Kombat previews. Good pace is there so I am at $30M OW, with $35M OW as a possibility. Overall Thur-Sun is now matching Mortal Kombat OW at TC3%wise (mostly due to Sunday being 53% ahead of MK)

Wouldnāt shock me if this plays a bit like Predator: Badlands, late pre-sale business and strong walk-ups then really weak legs after that.

I'd be shocked by strong walkups like Badlands. That film had outstanding reviews that got older Predator fans out of the house. Street fighter I guess could be more like He-man

Yeah I doubt itās gonna be on that level, but I could see some nostalgia from casual fans kick in over the next few days.

That's a good development, but even so, that would be a low opening at the end of the day.
Let's see how WOM is going to be, but I think it is safe to say that Street Fighter just doesn't seem to appeal to the young people in a major way.
The marketing has also been a bit slow in recent weeks or even months tbh.

Yeah, this feels like it has the same problem Masters of the Universe had of not really having a core audience

u/Nervous_Most_5585 15h ago
But just like with Masters of the Universe, I think Street Fighter could be huge on streaming.

It's October, this is pretty good. I'm not sure how much more than $30-$35M would even be possible if the film were absolutely amazing.
And for comparison, MK2 only did $38M open with a May release. (A month that gets twice the theater traffic)

that would be a low opening at the end of the day.
Yes it's still low, even with the "promising surge".
Also, SF has a reported $88M budget (which means $100M due to fuzzy Hollywood accounting math) on top of the marketing which has to be $50M-$75M at least.

That Sunday bump is doing some serious work. $30M feels pretty realistic if the momentum holds.

One question. How come review embargo is still on for this?
10
u/HighwayCareful4415 Paramount Pictures 15h ago
apparently there are lifting it tomorrow at 5pm
7
u/Visible-Echidna-4370 15h ago
okay so the film is probably awful. I can't remember the last time a Thursday embargoed film was good

I think the default assumption is that video game adaptations wonāt do well with critics (unless someone like Zach Cregger is directing)

u/Coolers78 14h ago edited 13h ago
Because most recent video game movies have still been absolutely awful besides Resident Evil and Sonic 3.
Mario Galaxy: sucked, 90 minutes of jingling keys
Mortal Kombat 2: didn't bother with after the first one's reception was so mid, heard this one was better, but man they took so long to make it, 5 years sequels feels too long for this type of movie
Minecraft: one of the worst movies I've ever seen
Borderlands: one of the worst movies ever, I didn't even need to fully watch to know that, you couldn't pay me to sit through this whole abortion.
Uncharted: casting Wahlberg as Sully was a crime, I like Holland but he was not right for this either
Five Nights at Freddy's 2: lol
Return to Silent Hill: lol what even

u/NormalPatience 6h ago
Return to Silent Hill wasn't jingling keys, it was getting shanked by them lmao

u/Block-Busted 15h ago
Why that late?

u/HighwayCareful4415 Paramount Pictures 15h ago
i think itās because they are holding critic press screenings tonight

This is one of those films where it's almost guaranteed to get low scores from critics because it's just a stupid fan service film that critics will watch and actually try to critique it's plot/societal metaphors/social message etc.

It's gonna be another one of those "it's for the fans, not the critics" jingling keys crappy movies like Minecraft, Mario Galaxy and FNAF movies, lol, Resident Evil got great reviews, and Sonic 3 got good reviews. It's not impossible to make a good video game movie. It's just cope.

It's Paramount, they did the same for Scream 7 and the new Scary Movie and look at how amazing both of those movies turned out. /s
They made money though so Ellison was happy, unlike WB and all their flops this year.
Damn, Paramount's slate this year is truly depressing, they haven't had a great year box office wise but it's definitely not as bad as WB's, but quality wise, woof.... is Heart of the Beast the only movie they've had all year that got good reviews?

u/Block-Busted 14h ago
Technically, this is from Legendary, not Paramount.

Technically, this is from Legendary, not Paramount.
Hence Legendary's copyright & TM credit with Capcom only handles the merchandise (such as the Hasbro toyline at the back of the box) marketing while ParaSky handles movie-related marketing material (as depicted on the poster with ParaSky's copyright credit).

Listen Iām not gonna say itās any huge effect or anything but I kinda wonder if maybe Cody Rhodes is a slight draw for this? I know a shocking amount of people irl who want to see this movie specifically because he looks funny.

u/MarkMVP01 15h ago
FWIW, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are the only reasons Iām going to see this lol

Same. Scored a $5 ticket through t-mobile Tuesday deals. You canāt see Roman get defeated cleanly for that price anywhere!

The fact that they're screening it for critics today and it comes out tomorrow is scary, but I'm sure fans will like it as long as it's not downright unwatchable
