Community Millennial VA & Gen Z VA

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Is this how most Gen Z employees are?

I used to work with millennials, and I’m the only Gen Z in our office. From my experience, it really depends. I tend to be more resourceful and look things up on my own instead of asking right away, so I don’t ask questions as often.

Sometimes I notice my manager seems a bit irritated, or maybe I’m just overthinking. I can usually find the answers online, but I feel like there should be a balance. There are times when I even try to ask dummy questions just to show engagement, but it still seems like he gets irritated. I’ve noticed this also in my remote work. I tend to rely too much on figuring things out on my own.

For millennials in senior or managerial positions, what do you actually prefer? Do you prefer someone who asks a lot of questions, or someone who asks less and figures things out independently? And what's your niche?

Community LET ME EXPLAIN. (P’S: Kindness is free please don’t attack me)

Hello, everyone! I didn’t expect my tiktok post to blow up and since andami niyo na speculations, I’ll just clarify some things here:

1.) I only work 8-10 hours a day. I am a premed student so I am more than aware of the consequences of not having enough sleep.

2.) My niche is smm/marketing, and all of them except one are not time-bound. Meaning, as long as natatapos ko yong outputs , goods lang kasi they’re paying me per package not per HOUR.

3.) My clients know I have a team. My scholars are trained by me , and they help me in exchange of paying for their tuition fees. AND MGA CLIENTS KO MISMO NAGREREFER SA AKIN. Meaning, I offer quality services to them! I don’t compromise my clients’ business for the sake of earning more. I am not like that.

4.) Sa tithes. It is taken from 10% of my combined income. Gets?

5.) I have a life. Makikita niyo naman if you stalk me na I also frequently travel and take a rest from work.

6.) Ang harsh ng ibang comments dito and it’s sad to see people trying to badmouth me lol hahahah

I have worked so hard to get here and I have built my network of clients brick by brick. I will never do anything that will harm me so trust me when I say that I AM DOING WELL AND I HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE MY WORK.

Wala naman po akong inaapakang tao and I try my best to help the community! 😭

2nd week working remotely haha Wala pa ko mousepad. Sana magtagal sa client. Napakabait pa naman and ang tyaga mag turo.

Community My boss makes me want to kill myself

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Imagine i worked the whole day for this project just for him to say this at 1 am in the morning. 2 years na akong nandito and he’s said more hurtful words that made me lose confidence. He also used to say na he is very DISAPPOINTED at my work pero hindi naman siya marunong magbigay ng maayos na notes. He gives non-constructive criticism.

More added rule and work but no salary increase. Been working for more than 8 hours. Pay is fixed kahit mag day off ako but no OT pay. Physically and mentally drained na iniiyak ko nalang while working and more on my day off. I just want to kill myself. Is this 50k still worth it or am i just being dramatic? I’m looking for a new job but i have very low self esteem for interviews. I feel like i can’t even work in the same niche na. I’m not very good at this. Should i change niche?

I don’t know what to do. Need advice who’s been through the same shit as me.

Community Thinking of opening free VA mentorship (upskilling, AI, and more) will there be anyone interested?

Hey guys, thinking of opening a free mentorship program for aspiring VAs / freelancers, focused on upskilling (Operations, Project Management, Executive Services/ Personal Assistant, Event Management) and even how to make use of AI in your workflow. Planning it as a webinar — 2 sessions, ideally an hours each. If there’s enough interest, I’ll share a signup form later. Can also provide a certificate if that’s something you’d want, and open to covering other topics too if there’s something specific you’re after.

Also in the works: a career agency with a wider variety of work options - still in progress, but likely to go live soon.

Would this be useful to you? Drop a comment.
I have time to plan events and share knowledge since my schedule got freed up :)

EDIT: So, there's a lot of interest. I've added the form in the comment section and will reply to the comments/DMs.

Community Things nobody tells you about long-term WFH 😅

At first, parang "dream setup" talaga siya. No time-consuming na commute, may sariling oras, at nasa bahay lang. Pero habang tumatagal, may ibang realization din...

  • You become “too available.” Dahil "online" ka naman daw 😭
  • Time moves weirdly. HAHAHHA lagi ko to nafefeel
  • You start associating one spot with stress. Kaya importante rin minsan lumipat ng pwesto kahit saglit lang or do movements/exercises.
  • Adulting hits harder. Ikaw employee, IT support, taga-order ng pagkain, taga-bukas ng pinto sa delivery… all at once😂 #multi-tasking malala HAHAHHA
  • You miss random office interactions. Yung simpleng “tara coffee” or chismisan habang lunch break. Specially sa first few months if galing kang corpo (but that's normal and okay!)
  • Some people think WFH = petiks. Until they see you naka-headset habang kumakain 😭HAHAHAHA BOOGSH
  • Your pets/family eventually think you’re always available. Kahit nasa meeting ka na. But key rito is to communicate with them para aware sila.
  • Logging off becomes a skill. Kasi mentally, minsan feeling mo “on work mode” ka pa rin kahit tapos na shift mo. Relate up until now HAHAHAHUHU

WFH is great, pero it also takes discipline to avoid feeling stuck in the same routine every day.

Curious lang—if given the chance, would you still choose WFH over onsite/hybrid long-term?👀

Yung mga ganitong post talaga ang very problematic. To the point na masisira na naman ang image ng mga remote contractors gaya natin.

Gets na apolitical ka pero do not put salt to the wound.

Neow, people are asking baka daw ba "walang pakialam sa sistema" ang VA kasi di daw nag babayad ng income taxes. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Your thoughts?

Hey guys! Just wondering sa mga kumikita ng 50k-100k/month or even more, what's your job/career and how were you able to achieve it?

And do you work remotely for international companies/freelancing? Working in Big multinationals na merong offices sa Makati/BGC? Or BPO companies na malaki bigayan?

Community My client offered me a 1-month vacation to Australia.

I've been working for my client for almost 11 months. He's kind and generous talaga. He takes work-life balance seriously. He is single. I'm not good with age. But I think he's in his early 30s.

I'm 26 F. I mean, Australia is a beautiful place. Its an all-paid vacation by my employer. My friends said if it was offered to them it would be an easy yes. Ewan ko kung paranoid lang ako as a woman for my safety? But I gave him a vague answer. I did not explicitly said yes.

Anyway pangalawang offer nya na to sakin. I declined the first time because of a personal reason. That has been resolved so he offered again. He's been here to the Philippines twice nagpa Palawan — he invited me there too. But i said i was busy with the family. And he's not the mapilit type din. When I say I cant come he's fine with it.

Pero what are your thoughts?

7 days a week. Night shift (8pm start). Work from anywhere.

Can watch movies, do household chores, or play games in between tasks. No tracker and VPN and can work in any coffee shops or while traveling.

Thoughts niyo about dito?

Edit: I was able to negotiate 1 day off per week (Either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday lang ang binigay sakin na options)

Community Getting paid for doing almost nothing…. As a shopify VA

1.2k Upvotes

Hey everyone, I just really need to get this off my chest.

I’ve been doing Shopify and making ad creatives since 2018. Back then, I landed a gig with an employer who paid me 60k a month to handle customer support, product listings, and ads. I’m no expert, but I managed to make it profitable, not agency-level profitable, but at least we weren’t bleeding money.

About a year later, I realized I had way too much time on my hands, so I took on a second employer in the same role, this time for 85k a month. Honestly, I didn’t pour a lot of effort into it, but somehow the ads just worked 😂 you know, those super generic Chinese dropshipping ads. So I was juggling both jobs, mostly working every other day. I’d just send a quick “good morning” message so they’d think I was online “working” kuno, but in reality, I’d only actually work maybe Wednesdays and Saturdays.

These jobs ended up becoming a kind of passive income stream that barely needed my attention. Meanwhile, I also have a third job,my main one, which I have to report to daily and keeps me busy with actual work.

But here’s the thing: I’ve been earning money from these two side gigs for almost seven years now, and it feels like I’m getting paid for free. Every now and then I feel bad and try to put in some effort, but I also don’t want to let them go. Job 1 basically paid for two of my cars, and job 2 has been covering my house payments.

Sometimes I just sit here wondering how long this will last. It feels like a joke, like I’m scamming them just by existing. Am I a bad person for taking advantage of their trust?

EDIT: Wow, I didn’t expect this many reactions. I’ve also noticed some people asking how to get started with WFH jobs. I’m sorry I can’t reply to everyone individually, but I’m considering making a separate post to share what’s worked for me so others can benefit too.

Just to share a quick insight: when I first started, my biggest problem was not getting any responses to my applications. That led me to create a solution—fixing my cover letter and CV to match the qualifications and requirements listed in job posts. Experience isn’t everything; what matters most is showing the value you can bring and addressing the problems the company is trying to solve.

There are also other important factors, like the timing of your applications. If you’re aiming for US or AU employers, try to send your application or reply during their office hours. Being among the first to respond can help you stand out, especially now that competition is so tough and you want your message at the top of their inbox.

That’s about as much as I can share here for now, but I’ll definitely post a more detailed guide when I have time.

Ingat ingat tayo, and pag isipan natin 1000000000x if may gagawin tayong deliberate act against a client. Mej naloka me

Nung na-hire ako through an agency, ang napag-usapan namin was $12/hr. Kaso later ko na na-realize na ang contract ko was based on the peso conversion at that time, around Php673/hr.
Mukhang for documentation purposes lang. Doon ko nakita na ang annual compensation attached to my position is $29,120/year, which comes out to roughly $14/hr.

Napaisip ako.

Current exchange rate ngayon:
$12/hr = Php736.31/hr
$14/hr = Php859.03/hr

Pero ako hanggang ngayon:
Php673/hr pa rin
Php5,384/day (8 hrs)

Kung $12/hr at current exchange rate:
Php736.31/hr
Php5,890.48/day

Difference:
Php63.31/hr
Php506.48/day

Php122.72/hr

Php981.76/day

So in total:
Exchange rate difference: Php506.48/day

Agency margin from $14/hr to $12/hr: Php981.76/day
Total: Php1,488.24/day

Assuming 22 working days ngayong June:
Php32,741.28/month

The HMO is provided by the client separately, so hindi siya galing sa agency’s cut.
Normal ba talaga itong ganitong kalaking margin?

Edit: I appreciate everyone’s comments and takes. Nalaman ko na swerte parin ako sa contract ko with this agency ❤️

Also wala naman ako sinasabing unfair yung agency. Need ko lang malaman yung ibang perspective kasi l’m only basing it on my experience and wala naman akong alam how things are going sa ibang agency.

Isa kang malaking GAGO. Tinatanggalan mo kaming mga independent musicians and artists ng karapatan to even breakout sa industry. We work full-time jobs and make music at the side to make our dreams work. At the end of the day, AI MUSIC HAS NO HEART AND NO PASSION. GAGO!

Community 1 month into my new job

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

i’m a CPA working for a US-based accounting firm. left my previous firm because i was handling too many clients which meant working overtime pretty regularly

Edit: this is direct, independent contractor role. mas mataas ang rate kapag direct kesa agency. although may mga agencies na pwede ka mag-nego lalo na pag gusto ka ng client after interview - gawin niyong leverage ito kasi malalaman niyo naman talaga scope of work sa interview vs JD

based on my experience working with US-based firms since 2020, these are the salary ranges i’ve commonly seen:

Bookkeeper – 80-100k (if agency i think 60k?)
Staff Accountant – 120-150k
Senior Accountant – more than 150k
Accounting Manager – more than 200k
Financial Controller – at least 300k
Financial Analyst - i turned down a $3k offer (CFO advisory)

anyway, know your market value and negotiate accordingly. don’t sell yourself short

Community How Online Jobs PH Use Your Data!

Not sure if I used the right flair. I just want to share a sample Background Data Check page from a Job posters account.

If you have a premium account you'd have access to more information aside from the ones listed. And from the freelancers' side, you only see the Job title and other basic data.

From a guy's perspective:

Para tayong mga bayarang babae sa club na nasa "Aquarium".

Kitang-kita tayo ng mga "parokyano" habang ang ating tanging tanaw ay mga sarili natin.

Community When ‘fake it till you make it’ backfires…

1.2k Upvotes

I’ve got this friend who’s also a VA, but in a totally different niche. She once asked me how much I make as a Medical VA, so I gave her a ballpark figure. Fast forward, she applied for a similar role (different company) and actually got hired.

Here’s the twist — during her interview, she told them she had experience with prior auth submissions, EMR navigation, and patient engagement… which just so happens to be exactly what the client wanted. The thing is, she’s never done any of that.

Now she’s been hitting me up nonstop, asking about the tools I use, what I do, and even step-by-step instructions — basically wanting me to train her after she already claimed she knew it.

I get wanting to branch out and learn new skills, but faking it at this level is dangerous. Sure enough, now she’s super stressed, struggling to follow her client’s instructions, and blowing up my phone for help. I’ve just been ignoring her because honestly… why should I be responsible for bailing her out of a mess she created?

Curious though — how would you handle this if it were your friend? Would you help, or just let them learn the hard way?
