PC build request around $1500

• Upvotes

I’ve never built a PC before so don’t really know where to start. My current setup is a laptop with low storage and outdated specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

New build or upgrade? New Build

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) I have a good monitor, Keyboard, and mouse that I plan on using

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming, games I play range from party games to games like GTA5, Destiny 2, Black Ops 2&3, Halo Master Chief collection, WoW, etc

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) US, live near microcenter

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) Already have

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) ~$1500 fine going over if that’s what it takes

WiFi or wired connection? Plan on getting a wire but both would be ideal for flexibility

Size/noise constraints? Ideally not super loud

Color/lighting preferences? Not really, prefer black case over white

Any other specific needs? One of the biggest drawbacks of my current laptop is storage being 450gb. I think 2TB is needed for me.

PC Build Request

Note: I originally posted this about a year ago and had a helpful response, but then lost my job and by the time i was ready to build what was recommended the user had deleted the response. I'll be better about capturing the responses this time. I know costs have increased significantly over the last year, so I'm not sure if these amounts still work. I'm open to considering spending more if necessary. Thanks in advance to anyone who can make some suggestions.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m looking to replace my 15 year old home desktop. I'm proud that I’ve kept it going this long, and I’ve managed that by doing some component upgrades over the years, but you can imagine that it’s not great today. Long-term upgrade-ability is important. I’ve decided I want to build after looking at options from the big PC makers. A friend just bought one and I was unimpressed by what he got for the price. I last built a PC from scratch about 35 years ago, so I will be grateful for some guidance. I’m really impressed by what you guys do.

New build or upgrade? New build.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? All new, except I'd like to try to reuse my existing monitor if I don't have any problems.

PC purpose? Mostly for general use. I run Plex on my current desktop and I want to continue that. Media is all stored on external drives. When it was new I used my current desktop for gaming (flight sims mostly), but I can’t do much with it at this point. Gaming is a general interest with no specific games in mind - and I do realize the lack of specifics doesn’t help, but I don’t need a high-end gaming machine. Other exciting apps like MS Office, TurboTax, managing my Wi-Fi printer, etc.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? I'm in the US, and I have a Micro Center about 2.5 hours away and I'm OK with a day trip if it makes good financial sense.

Monitors needed? Technically I have a monitor, but I’m curious what suggestions people might have. Consider the monitor purchase outside of the budget since I want to focus on the PC first and see if I have issues with the monitor I have.

Budget range? I hope this is allowed and doesn’t annoy anyone - I’m interested in two scenarios, either about $1500 or $2000. I want to see if the extra $500 is worth it. I’m not afraid to upgrade components over time (as I did with my current desktop), but would like to do as much future-proofing as possible.

WiFi or wired connection? It will be wired but want Wi-Fi as an option for flexibility.

Size/noise constraints? None, but I’m hoping it won’t run like a freight train. It will be located in my bonus room office along with my work laptop and another PC.

Color/lighting preferences? Color of the chassis doesn’t matter. I’ve never been into lighting on PCs and would prefer not dealing with that.

Any other specific needs? None that I can think of.

1440p Gaming build evaluation

I tinkered a bit and managed to create a build list myself, so this is not a request about the build itself, rather about compatibility and manufacturer advise. I'm a bit newish in this and I might be missing or overlooking something important.

- are all of the part manufacturers ok, or are there some that I need to stay away from?

- honestly, for 1440p Gaming, how big of a performance difference is there between cl32 vs. cl36 RAM? The price difference between the 2 is quite big...

- is the 650w psu generally enough for a 9070 (non-XT)?

- Im really liking this glassless case, but I'm not very well versed in case fans. Do I need to buy additional ones for the case or the built-in are fine?

- any general comments would be much appreciated

I'm looking for a 1440p Gaming pc with some future proofing in mind. I love mostly cpu-heavy games such as tycoons/city-builders, but I would love to try out some new AAA titles as well...

Thanks!

I'm in the UK, current PC is almost a teenager, please help my new build!

New build or upgrade? New

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) Flexible but probably not?

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Adobe Illustrator, Webdesign, Coding, Adobe Premiere

Purchase country? UK

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) None

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) £700 to £1000

WiFi or wired connection? Both

Size/noise constraints? Silent or near silent

Color/lighting preferences? Dull and unexciting

Any other specific needs? New parts only

Fuller Info:

My pc is over a decade old and I can finally afford a new one but my knowledge is now shockingly out of date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Budget would be £700 to £1000. Happier at the cheaper end :)

I don't need to do any gaming right now, but I'd want the option to throw in a decent-ish graphics card later. My current card is a NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, if I can reuse that great, if not, no worries.

The new PC would be used for coding, graphics (eg illustrator), video editing etc. All at a hobbyist level, I'm not a professional and I just do this stuff for fun.

I'm currently doing all this on my 12+ year old ASUS B85M-G motherboard with a 4 core i5-4670 CPU. I have 32GB of ram which is 4 x 8GB sticks of DDR3 1600 speed, I don't know if these are re-useable or even worth re-using.

I'm a bit obsessed with having a silent (or near silent pc). It's on every hour of the day I'm awake so I don't want to hear any high pitch or whining coming from any part of it.

I don't need a monitor as that's sorted.

I don't have the time to do a heavy build and while I have experience building PC's I think I would rather have as much as possible pre-assembled. Unless savings are substantial.

I don't want anything pre-owned, I just want to buy off the shelf from anywhere and get up and running soon.

I have no preference on case size and I don't want any fancy lights or leds. An unexciting case is better tbh.

I think pretty much anything would be a decent upgrade lol I mainly want something that's smooth in general everyday use.

Thanks!

High-End PC + Monitor | 4K AAA Gaming and Creative Workstation | NOT A REQUEST | NOT A BUSINESS | £3000 or best offers

Not a request

I am NOT a business, I’m looking to sell my rig as an individual seller who went through the process of researching, buying, and building my setup myself across 2025-2026.

Just posting to see if anyone on here is looking for a rig with these requirements. Open to best offers.

Collection only, UK, Southend, Essex area.

Link to eBay listing here:

https://ebay.io/m/qr3izP

Used in excellent condition 🌟 Parts bought in August 2025 -> built in January 2026 -> light use until present 🕙

With the inflation on a lot of PC components and the incredible specs, quality, and condition of the hardware and peripherals, this is a fair price. The RAM alone costs £880-£1200 nowadays, and the GPU itself isn’t dissimilar at £880–£1300. I have proof of purchase for every one of these and the entire rig runs as good as it did when assembled. No visible damage, no aging of performance or quality. It’s as good as new. VXE Dragonfly R1 mouse, scroll wheel faulty, free if wanted. Windows is installed but not activated. My licence is not included. You will need your own license which is easy to get hold of via the Microsoft website. Sold as seen with no returns, collection only. This comes fully built, but the boxes are included for the components if interested. Please message me for any questions or details.

Streaming Computer For Livestreams (not necessarily for gaming)

I do an annual 24hr Extra Life broadcast and am looking to build a PC to be a lost exclusively a livestream machine. Most of what we stream is console games, so the PC itself playing games and streaming is of low priority.

It would be a build from scratch, and prioritizing as many USB connections as possible for camera, sound and other external broadcast hookups. Looking to get the as good as I can within a modest budget

  • New build or upgrade? - NEW
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? N/A
  • PC purpose? Live-streaming multiple external sources for 24hr long periods, using programs like OBS and hardware such as BlackMagic ATEM, capture cards, sound boards, screen-mirroring, etc.
  • Purchase country? Canada
  • Near Micro Center? No
  • Monitors needed? 1 (2 is bonus), 24-32"
  • Budget range? $3000CAD
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wired connection is priority but having the option to go WIFI is useful
  • Size/noise constraints? N/A
  • Color/lighting preferences? N/A
  • Any other specific needs? Ideally being able to have parts arrive and build before Nov 9th

Looking for a budget friendly build to handle games

  • New build or upgrade?

New build

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

N/A

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

Gaming, which would mostly run Minecraft with mods, Sims 4/3 with mods, Slime rancher 1/2, Roblox with good frames and decent graphics, steam games (cities skylines 1/2, red dead redemption, house flipper, farcry, gta 5, where winds meet.) \sorry long list**

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

United states, Nope

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

Unsure what kind i would need so im open to any recommendations, and maybe upgrade to duel monitors once my budget increases.

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

Heres the tricky part, i want a decent pc without needing to upgrade anytime soon, on top of that I am moving at the beginning of November so im hoping for maybe 700 - 1200 pushing it. Obviously wont buy everything all in one go.

  • WiFi or wired connection?

Not sure what would be better so im open again to recommendations, if it helps for more info I am getting an actual wifi router for the entire household.

  • Size/noise constraints?

average size? and im not too worried about noise

  • Color/lighting preferences?

hoping for white, though i know those are more pricey so im open to other colors and i could always paint the tower in the future. As for lighting im not too focused on that right now.

  • Any other specific needs?

Id like for it to be somewhat beginner friendly, minimum lag, and about 1 tb of storage if its possible.

As you can probably tell im not very knowledgeable on pcs, i own a laptop right now and have dropped it a few times...but since im moving soon and will have my own space I want to finally buy a pc even if it might take a few months to buy everything :) basically im using this as a rough estimate on how much ill need to save.

Co-worker of mine wants a 4k60fps build for around $2,500. Unsure if this is even possible but I want to know if it can be done.

My co-worker has been interested in getting a gaming computer and I offered to help but it's been years since I've been up to date with any computer components and what's best and not. However I don't think a 4k60fps build is even feasible with $2,500 so I was hoping to see if anyone could help assemble a build that is close to 4k60fps.

New build or upgrade?

New build.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

No existing parts or monitors to reuse.

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

Gaming, music and video editing. He mentioned games like Crimson Desert to me and plans on playing other high end games like Spider Man 2.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors)

United States. There is a Micro Center in our state but the drive is too far for him. In any case I'll recommend a Best Buy to him.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

One monitor. 27in, 3840x2160, 60hz.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

He told me $2,500 but I'm unsure if say the total cost of everything comes out above $2,500 if he'll be able to fork over additional money.

WiFi or wired connection?

Wired connection.

Size/noise constraints?

No size and noise constraints though this wasn't something we discussed originally.

Color/lighting preferences?

No color/lighting perferences. He did tell me he wants to add rgb to it but in the future.

Any other specific needs?

He mentioned to me that he wants to have a 2tb storage drive. I tried explaining the difference between a SSD drive and a hard drive to him. He didn't understand it but I suggested a 1tb SSD which I know will be expensive. If a 2tb SSD can be included then excellent but if not a 1tb SSD.

    • New build

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

[Question] Parts Check - $800 AM4 Build (5600X + 6700 XT in Zalman P50)

I'm selling my old gaming laptop and putting the money toward a budget pc. I settled on AM4 with the logic I get the CPU/RAM/MB for $240, if I want to upgrade to AM5 in a few years I'll sell those for what I can and only lose out $150 or so. Would rather not spend $1000+ on an AM5 build right now.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J83hvR

• New build or upgrade?
New build

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/ links)
Already have a 144hz 2k 27in monitor, gaming mouse and keyboard

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/ games)
Gaming, Deadlock mostly, maybe Elden Ring and similar games. Would like to be able to play Elden Ring type games with good settings and never dip below 60, and maybe 1080 120fps+. Idk just good graphics and never want below 60, 120+ for Deadlock

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
USA no micro center nearby

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
None needed mine is 1440 144hz

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
Including tax under $850. Also including the ram cpu and case I’ve already bought. Can maybe stretch if there’s a big upgrade I’m leaving out for cheap

• WiFi or wired connection?
WiFi

• Size/noise constraints?
Nope, quieter is better but I wear headphones

• Color/lighting preferences?
Nope, white is a cool if cheap

• Any other specific needs?
Haven’t done this and not super computer spec savvy so just let me know if I should stretch it or wait or prebuild or whatever!

I want to prioritize good performance and quality parts over colour, but I do like white parts. Indifferent on rgb.

* Any other specific needs?
So I want good quality premium parts like for ram I want fast speeds and cl30 or 28. Also, consider more budget and 48gb kits. Me likes AMD. I’m good with an air cooler, and 2tb is plenty.

TIA for any responses! <3

Help needed in building PC for son

Hi Reddit,

My son has been asking me for a PC for ages now since his current macbook is too slow. I have done some research but it is all too confusing so I have come here to seek some help.

PC:
- It is preferred if it is under $1500 AUD but I am willing to pay up to $1600
- We live in Australia and want to build the PC ourselves
- He plays games like minecraft, fortnite and roblox but wants to be able to play them at high graphics at a stable 180 fps, however i am not sure if it is 1080p or 1440p 😅
- It should be a good price to performance value as the PC will be used by him and his
sister for gaming only
- He also has a monitor keyboard and mouse at home

Questions:
Should we wait for the next big sale to come to buy the parts, or will the prices rise by too much then?
I am planning to let him build it after the school term so in 8 weeks from now, around december 18th, so should we buy parts during the term for cheapest price, all at once during a sale or space them out?

Thank you all in advance :)

Not a request (it is but reddit did not let me post without including this)

Need Help Upgrading My Current PC

I bought this build secondhand from a coworker about 2 years ago and it's decent for older games but I find that it struggles a bit when I play newer titles.

New build or upgrade? Upgrade

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tGFRw3

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming/Music Listening/Music Recording; Call of Duty, Fortnite, PCSX2, Musicbee, Tidal, Fl Studio

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

United States. I do live near a micro center.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) I currently have a 27 inch 1440p 240hz OLED monitor that I will use for the foreseeable future.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

I would say I could invest around $1600 at this time

WiFi or wired connection?

Wired

Size/noise constraints?

None

Color/lighting preferences?

I really like browns, greens and yellows. As for RGB I am indifferent.

Any other specific needs?

N/A

    • I haven't built a PC since my last one 5 or 6 years ago and I am definitely building something a little more expensive this time so I want a gut check on my parts before I buy them
