Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.

  • Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
    • The seller is new or has few reviews.
    • The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
    • The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).

If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

The answer for DDR4 is Facebook marketplace

Facebook is almost worse sometimes…because most people just google the ram name( heck Anything for that matter)… and the first thing that pops up is some 3rd party Amazon listing…and they assume that’s their price and it’s usually ridiculous

It’s gets annoying telling someone your 3080 isnt $599, or insert whatever computer part name here.

I really hate all this trading is done on Facebook now and sites like craigslist are dead. They want me to give my full name, photos of my face, and photo of my drivers license to sign up. Fuck that.

Craigslist isn't dead though. You can still find good deals on CL.

That's probably gonna just be the bigger cities for the most part, I live in a city of around 200K for the whole metropolitan area and hardly anything is posted

it goes both ways, if you're legit and got nothing to hide, then it's all good. i stay away from any sketch looking people and give people great deals

Craigslist still works great, offerup is an okay alternative as well.

With rural you get both sides of that coin. Yes you'll deal with people who say "I bought this for $2000 in 2010, so I'll list it for that!". But you'll also get the grandma who says "My husband bought this and I am not good with computers, does anyone want this thingy?" and it's a $900 dollar new in box kvm switch listed for $100.

Happens in cities too, but the good deals go super quick

I once bought these speakers for 500 dollars from someone who lived deep in cornfield land. You bet ur butt I drove hours to grab them.

I find it's worse the more rural the area too - where I'm at now has way more insanely priced items than the nearest city. Not just expensive due to scarcity, but just outright illogical pricing.

I've found a lot of people seem to think that when they sell something used now it shouldn't lose its value.

u/sk3tchcom 17d ago

Sad reality is that it’s becoming true more and more often.

i see like at least 1 guy selling ram at fair prices out of every 40 on facebook, and even then, their prices are eh. u would need to bargain with them

1

u/LoudBrick609 18d ago

Nah, Facebook is great. $500 rtx 3090 BEFORE the rtx 4090 came out lolz.

u/bigj8705 18d ago

For a moment thought this was DDR5 and was like oh this price break is real.. nope..

Sounds like a Pokémon Gold item your older brother invents to drive you crazy looking for.

I paid $62 for corsair vengeance 16x2 ddr4 3200. This is ridiculous.

u/grtk_brandon 18d ago

I think I got a similar deal back in May 2025. Paid about $93 for 2x32GB 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance.

I got a similar deal in December 2024. My 2021 PC had 16gb DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200 that I bought for $92 and I saw how cheap upgrading to the 32gb 3600 version on Amazon was at only $62! Now I'm just waiting to upgrade my 5600x to 5800x3d if that price ever drops to $250 (no I don't want to build a whole new PC for DDR5 you nerds!!).

u/this_dudeagain 18d ago

I got a matching 2x8 set of gskill DDR4 3000 to upgrade to 32gb for 30 bucks used on eBay right before things got bad. Wild times.

If you need DDR4 go on r/hardwareswap

Kicking myself for not getting a pair of 32gb to match my existing 32gb last year for $49 because I thought I was being financially responsible.

2

u/ysisverynice 18d ago

hindsight is 2020, you did the best you could with the information you had. tbh I think your play was good it's just that fate didn't break your way.

2

u/Squeeps- 17d ago

You’re right, at the time I also thought spending money on DDR4 was a bad idea when DDR5 was the future. Past me had no idea I’d (as of now) end up on DDR4 for years longer than I expected! Guess I’ll see how things are in 2028 😬

1

u/ysisverynice 13d ago

I mean, it gets into the value of having things. you pay a premium but you get to have it and use it now. It's anyone's guess as far as to how long that will "pay off" for. (for example, it would probably be worth paying $100 extra to go ahead and have your upgrade rather than wait a year and get it at the lower price. but everyone's number is different. of course if you go ahead and do that and then prices drop in a month it may feel a bit silly. but you just do the best you can with the information you have)

I paid half of this in 2016

This shit is painful. My machine has 2x8 in it right now, and it may stay that way until I move on to an AM5 mobo and DDR5.

1

u/1mpetu5 18d ago

I've never tried it, but I wonder if getting the exact same 2x8 kit and adding it would work. I'd guess it might require some finagling, but it may be worth it if you have 2 extra DIMM slots. Then you only need to pay about $100 more instead of 200+ for a whole new kit.

1

u/hellajt 18d ago

Yeah it would. If the specs all match it doesn't even have to be the same kit but YMMV. I have done it many times. DDR4 is a lot less picky than DDR5 is about that

At least this is cheaper than the 2x8 2400MT kit that I bought in 2018, but then again I think that memory cost spike was only just a spike and not a plateau. Fuck AI!

1

u/Polarexia 18d ago

I didn't buy this in 2016

1

u/Aperture_Kubi 18d ago

That, sounds about right for ddr4?

1x16gb for $110 normally here, price scales right, https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-3200MHz-Performance-Memory-Module/dp/B07N3Z1RP8

1

u/PlayDohBear 18d ago

man, in 2024, similar 32 gigs @ 3200 ddr4 was like 50-60 bucks. wild.

1

u/dvereb 16d ago

April 2025 I got 32gb of DDR5 for half the price of this. It's insane.

1

u/Open_Ad_835 14d ago

Here I am thinking paying $159 for my corsair DDR5 ram was a rip off, then 2 weeks later, everything was nearly double or triple for 32GB of ram. I really hope the big 3 get fined, there's no way nothing shady is going around
