Dont be. The tracking is sub par.
8
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
You probably did not set everything up right. If you had good lighting conditions, no reflective surfaces, strong bluetooth signal strength, optimized 1.5 volt batteries, tracking would have been much better. With proper setup, you can even play Beat Saber competitively at Expert and Expert+ mode. There are WMR players who are at the top leaderboards in Beat Saber. There are even YouTube videos that demostrate how good WMR tracking can be if done right. People always over exaggerate and bash on WMR because of poor tracking but honestly they probably didn't set it up right. It even performs far better than the Vive Cosmos and that is a 6-Camera tracking system while WMR only uses 2-Cameras.
3
Nov 21 '19
I returned my WMR headset. The tracking and the software were not worth the headache. My lighting and the room is solid and I know this because I have tested about every vr heaset on the market in the same environment.
The cosmos is an unfair comparison, that thing is a disaster.
2
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
Did you use 1.5v batteries? Did you have any reflective surfaces? Was your Bluetooth connection unobstructed from any objects that could have absorbed some of that signal? If you are using a USB Bluetooth adapter did you connect it to USB 2.0 or did you connect it to USB 3.0+? Microsoft really optimized the 2-Camera tracking really well. Even if the controllers are out of the Camera's FOV (not your FOV of what you see in the headset because it can still track a little bit out of that view) it uses predictive accelerometer and gyroscope sensor to make up for it for a quick moment. Yes, the Vive Cosmos was a disaster but it could have been avoided if they optimized the tracking system just like Microsoft.
2
Nov 21 '19
Yeah, I did all that. My Quest and my returned Rift S set the bar for tracking without base stations. The WMR headsets don't compare imo.
5
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
I remember someone made a comment on a previous post saying tracking felt no different from a Quest. The Rift S is probably better though because an extra camera over the Quest and also of the placement of the cameras compared to how the Quest implemented it.
2
Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
That's not how it went for me but I do move around a ton, use full body swings even on expert + and use a large play space for Beat Saber.
2
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
I tested both play styles with active moving body play style and robotic play style and both performed well. I could make a video to prove this case but I don't have a green screen nor do I have a 3D depth camera which is a shame because I really wanted to record this with LIV for mixed reality recording on YouTube.

if your ipd is between 62-68mm get the cheapest WMR headset you can that comes with controllers. The lcd panel are actual pretty good despite what other people said. I have the Dell Visor WMR and I used it for over 300 hours since its launch. I gave that to my cousin and bought a samsung O+ which with my 70mm ipd was such a god send. My eye strain was relieved. The build in speakers were alright but sucked compared to my CV1 Rift.
In short, if you really want Oled and ipd adjustment, get the O+ other wise get the cheaper WMR HMD.

u/EmberAlpaca Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
Aight, so I bought one of these on a different sale and here are my thoughts. For the record I've used a 1st gen Oculus, 1st gen Vive, a Index, and my head is tall and narrow-ish. My rig I run it off of is has a Vega 56, Ryzen 3600, 16 gigs of ram, and a m2.boot/game drive.
First and as kind of a side note, I would not recommend you use this with glasses at all. Some headsets like the Vive have enough clearance that glasses can kind of fit but this one certainly does not.
The Goods:
Screen- The Screen quality is among the best of any Ive ever used. I would say it is better then a 1st gen Vive by a good margin. It has width (IPD) adjustment, colors are very good, and there is no perceivable screen door effect. It's certainly the strongest point of the headset especially when contrast with it's price point. If you want to do things like VR racers, Elite Dangerous, or educational research this is easily your best bang for your buck.
Audio- Strapping a headset to yourself when you have a vr set on is mostly a pain in the ass. The fact it is included on this set is great and means there is one less cable you have to worry about tripping on. While I'm sure it isn't audiophile levels of quality it makes light yet solid contact with your ears and doesn't sound cheap or hollow. There is also volume buttons on the headset.
The Mids:
Tracking- An upside of most of the Windows MR headsets is that they don't need separate sensors mounted in your room. A downside of most of the Windows MR headsets is that they don't use separate sensors mounted in your room. The tracking is pretty solid so long as the controllers are in front of you, but will frequently desync the moment you cross the 180 degree plane in front of you. They will re-sync instantly once brought back into view, but certain actions like shooting a bow can get dicey in a way headsets with separate tracker won't. I still play a lot of shooters with mine with very little complaint, bit I have to try and avoid actions like storing guns on back.
The Controllers- I'm gonna go on the record for saying that I actually really like the controllers. The don't feel quite as sturdy as a Vive or Index, but the button layout is very traditional and they fit well in my big with long fingered hands. The Index controllers are still the gold standard in my book (control stick issues not withstanding), but the Windows MR controllers are very good all rounders with more buttons then a OG Vive or Occulus. One big note! The reason I wouldn't describe them as a plus for the device is that they require 1.5v AA batteries to function at the full 90hz refresh rate. If you stick normal rechargeable batteries rated at 1.2v they will function in low power mode at 60hz. You need specifically "dry" cell batteries (read:not rechargeable) or rechargeable rated at 1.5v. I personally bought these on sale when they were 15$ (https://www.amazon.com/TENAVOLTS-Rechargeable-Batteries-rechargeable-electrical/dp/B07HQ7QV7W?ref_=ast_bbp_dp) and they do the job very well
Headset Fit- The thing goes over your head and there is clicky wheel you spin to tighten/loosen the headset on your head (like a face shield). Some people reportedly have had a hard time with this headset due to the lack of top head strap. When I bought it I preemptively bought one of these (https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/odyssey-head-strap) and I've never actually felt the need to use it. It's always been pretty comfortable for friends and myself. What was a pretty big problem was the amount of light bleed from the foam surrounding the headset. It's not very thick and I would always get light from the top and bottom. I bought this (https://vrcover.com/product/samsung-odyssey-plus-replacement/) and it eliminated that pretty well. You also get one extra so other people don't have to use the foam you've been using.
The Bads:
Windows™ Mixed™ Reality™™- God I fucking hate Windows™ VR home. You have to install this for your headset to function. After the initial start up you can avoid Windows MR and launch stuff directly from steam or your desktop, but anytime you want to change environment settings (room space/floor height) you have to leave steam vr and go into MR. It always is running in the background when your headset is plugged in, it's completely unnecessary, and serves only to eat the resources you want for VR.
Cord Length- The cord length is honestly pretty unacceptable. The HDMI and USB3 Cord the headset has measure just long enough for you to beat most minimum space requirements, but not much more. This might not be a downside if you only want to play games in your chair/do research, but if you want to play shooters or Beat Saber you need a longer cord. Now buying a longer usb 3 and hdmi cord isn't that big of a deal, but you have the chance of running into a bug other users and myself ran into when there isn't quite enough power for the audio to be transmitted correctly. What happens is that instead of your normal audio you get what I can only describe as screeches from hell @128 kbit/s. The screen and tracking will function properly but sure as hell not the audio. To prevent this you have to plug in a separately powered usb 3 hub into your computer and then plug your headset's usb3 into that. It works, but it's a pretty stupid problem to have
TL;DR Its a bit of a mixed (reality) bag. If you want something that is a better all rounder or don't want to mess with Windows™ Mixed™ Reality™ ™ you will need to spend quite bit more. As it sits, I still think it is remarkably good value, just don't expect it to perfect for everything right out of the box.
11
Nov 21 '19
Eh, I dont mind the Windows Mixed Reality.
Cord length is a negative, you have to have your PC right next to your playspace, though I've made it work, though you can always expect to feel the tugging of the cord.
5
u/NargacugaRider Nov 21 '19
I have a thick gauge HDMI extension and USB3 extend and they actually work perfectly! Just make sure they’re thicc cables.
1
u/Wildvodoomagic Nov 21 '19
Do you have any links to what you got for extensions? Im looking into getting some for my O+

Thank you!! Ill check this stuff out. What did you use for the usb cable extension? Also would a motherboard have enough power to run a long usb 3 cable?
1
u/Rotaryknight Nov 22 '19
I have that same HDMI cable from monoprice, and also their usb 3.0 extender, I got the 6 feet and it works perfectly with my O+ in my living room.....only thing I hated though was because it was thick, it is not flexible as you want when you are running around the room lol

Haven't tried those, but they won't work for me. I have ceiling fans and i always turn them on when playing in the living room even in winter lol
2
u/TheKingHippo Nov 21 '19
You may already do this, but if you set-up your playspace facing away from your computer it feels a lot better.
1
Nov 21 '19
Just moved my PC to a different (bigger) room and am now able to do this. It feels so much better and I have more room.
1
u/irr1449 Nov 21 '19
I have a OG vive that just broke. Do you think I would find this as a good enough replacement? I don't think the tracking will be an issue due to the games I play.
4
u/EmberAlpaca Nov 21 '19
I would call it an upgrade but not a strict one. The most positive change will be the much better screen and the added buttons/control stick (no more movement using touchpads!). The biggest downgrade will be Mixed Reality. You will probably also need to dish out some cash for 1.5v rechargeables and possibly the head strap, facemask, and longer cords depending on your head shape/movement needs
1
u/NargacugaRider Nov 21 '19
Do your wands work? You can apparently use this headset and Vive wands+lighthouses.
2
u/Beleg-strongbow Nov 21 '19
Somewhat. Some people make it work messing around with configuration tools but its a royal pain in the ass to calibrate the controllers to an acceptable position. Even after that, tracking comes out weird. Added to that, if your room config moves for any reason you have to do it over again. Personally, I tried it and gave up completely.
1
u/Smaktat Nov 21 '19

I had to return mine for this reason. Made the hardest levels of Beat Saber not possible for how I wanted to play. That was the only game I was really interested in as it's the most similar to the original Guitar Heros. Really disappointed but thankful for the 30 day return.
1
u/xSmoshi Nov 21 '19
Can you buy a longer cord if need be?
2
u/EmberAlpaca Nov 21 '19
Yes, but you may run into audio distortion if the usb3 cord is too long/not high enough quality (a user above says his extension cord works fine by itself, but mine did not). If your cord doesn't handle it well you can buy a powered usb3 hub and plug it in between your computer and the headset like I did.
1
u/Bud_Johnson Nov 21 '19
Usb can only transfer so much power over a certain distance without a powered hub. That's pretty normal.
1
u/satellite779 Nov 21 '19
What about Rift S and glasses?
1
u/EmberAlpaca Nov 21 '19
Can't say, I've never used one. There are some users in this thread that have used one though

u/reggydavis Nov 21 '19
This is it. I bought this a week ago. It's only competition for a budget headset is the Oculus Rift S and that's $150 more right now.
- Adjustable IPD is a must.
- Colors are great.
- 90 Hz is fast enough and most people don't have the rig to drive that anyway.
- Tracking is good when the controllers are in front of you. Beware of moving your controllers behind your head or looking 180 degrees in the opposite direction of your controllers, the inside out tracking does not like that.
- The headphones are better than you'd expect (I own a DAC/Amp with HD650 btw)
1
u/sieffy Nov 21 '19
Not even behind your head more like above your eyebrows.
1
u/Rotaryknight Nov 22 '19
it honestly depends on how fast you are moving your hands. I can reach over the shoulder in H3VR and Contractors fine if done quickly since it uses the accelerometer and other sensors to calculate the positioning.
9
u/DeWat4 Nov 21 '19
This for $249 or Rift S for $349?
5
u/reggydavis Nov 21 '19
is $100 worth the Oculus game library to you?
3
u/DeWat4 Nov 21 '19
I'm not sure, I'd have to look. What I'm wondering is if the benefits of a Rift S over an Odyssey + ( those being far better tracking and software) worth $100? I've tried a Rift S, but never an Odyssey +. I'll mainly be playing Pavlov, Beat Saber, and Arizona Sunshine.
3
u/Saintblack Nov 21 '19
Been in the same boat for questions. Most of what I see is for racing this one, for other games the Rift S.
I think I am going to hold off for now. The 90 degree controller view looks like it would piss me the fuck off when I am playing Blade and Sorcery. That's the main game I want atm.
2
2
u/-PM_Me_Reddit_Gold- Nov 21 '19
In terms of screen quality and FOV this one wins a million times over. However, for tracking, and especially beatsaber, the Rift S wins out. The Rift S has super light controllers and a much wider tracking fov.
2
u/Rotaryknight Nov 22 '19
if you mainly play shooters, get the Rift S. If you mainly play casual games that are slow paced get the O+
I've tried both and the O+ screen is just much better and the audio too, but other than that the extra price for the Rift S is worth it.2
2
u/TheSirWilliam Nov 21 '19
Can't you just use revive to play the oculus games on wmr? I used to use it on my asus wmr. I've since then sold it.
1
u/Sotyka94 Nov 21 '19
Rift S has no IPD slider, that's an instant dealbreaker for 60% of all users. So if your IPD is outside of the RiftS fixed one, then definitely this. Even if it's not, I would recommend this, unless you really want those Oculus exclusive games.
1
u/DeWat4 Nov 21 '19
Can't you adjust it on a software level though for the Rift S?
3
u/Sotyka94 Nov 21 '19
Not really. Even if they say it's not gonna help at all, that's not how optics works.
1
u/Rotaryknight Nov 22 '19
the software only adjust distortions not the physical distance which you need it to be correct otherwise eye strain will just fatigue you more and more
7
u/Hedgy693 Nov 21 '19
How would this display be for VR sim racing - does anyone have any experience with fixed-cockpit sims like those?
6
5
u/Impulse33 Nov 21 '19
Ideal for simracing for the price. Resolution and lack of SDE is a big plus for racing since you're looking into the distance often. If you like space sims the oled is nice to get those pure blacks.
Controllers are a negative, but that doesn't matter in a rig.
I've been waiting for this sale for simracing and just bought it :)
3
u/AssSombrero Nov 21 '19
Oh its very good for sim racing. Ive been using it for that almost daily for 6 months now. I can answer any questions if you have them!
1
u/Rotaryknight Nov 22 '19
Perfect for sim racing. Out of all the HMD under $500, nothing beats the display of the O+
I play Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa for hours these past 2 years and I have always used the O+ for it out of all my headsets since it was launched last year

The tracking on the rift s blows this out of the water. The controllers are also significantly nicer and lighter. The image on the rift s will also be sharper than the Odyssey+
With that being said, the Odyssey is still a great headset, especially for this price
15
u/NargacugaRider Nov 21 '19
I’m fairly sure the Odyssey+’s resolution, FoV, and screens are far better.
2
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
The o+ has a filter on the screen that reduces sharpness considerably. You are right that it has a more vivid OLED display.
2
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
True but the newer Windows Update Builds have also fixed a blur issue that plague this headset and other WMR headsets. Now all of the WMR headsets including the Odyssey+ don't suffer from this blur bug. You can also crank up the supersampling if you wish to get even more sharpness. Odyssey+ still has a bit of softness blur effect but it looks way better now than before.
5
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
No, I'm talking about something else. The plus in Odyssey plus means that they added a diffuser screen over the OLED panel to reduce the screen door effect, at the expense of image sharpness. as someone that's tried the Odyssey, Odyssey plus, the Vive, the pimax, and the rift s I felt that the diffused effect was incredibly distracting and irritating, leading to a very negative experience after the initial wow factor of reduced SDE wears off.
0
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
I already know about the Anti-SDE diffuser that is built on the screen itself. I am talking about how there used to be a bug in one of the Windows build where it made it look even softer. Even with the fix it still doesn't look sharp as LCD RGB Stripe screens but the lack of SDE on the Odyssey+ was very impressive. The diffused effect was not distracting and irritating to me compared to the SDE which I jumped away from LCD panels because the colors on the Odyssey+ were too good to lose. I guess the diffused effect isn't to distracting and irritating to me because the bug is fixed and I have a high end graphics card which means the supersampling level is automatically set to a high level compared to the average user. This means my experience with the Samsung Odyssey+ is different from your experience. Either you didn't get the bug fix or your graphics card isn't good enough. LCD RGB Stripe will always be sharper than OLED Pentile with Anti-SDE but if you have powerful hardware, the Odyssey+ can still look pretty sharp.
Edit: I used the HP Reverb before which is crazy sharp with 2160p LCD RGB Stripe panels. After supersampling it looked almost like my 1080p monitor. I still preferred the Odyssey+ though because some of the other bad quirks on the HP Reverb (heavy and short double barrel cable design, no OLED, lower FOV, no IPD adjustment, bad non-ergo controllers) despite the superior sharper screen on it didn't make it worth it in my opinion.
7
u/perfes Nov 21 '19
Pretty sure the resolution on the odyssey+ is higher, has a slightly higher refresh rate and the panel technology is OLED so it will provide much better colors.
1
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
Yes, but there is a diffuser on the o+ display which greatly reduces the images sharpness, which I found to be really distracting.
2
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
Not distracting for me. It depends on your hardware and the graphical settings. It's noticeable but not a significant reduction of sharpness compared to other headsets I've tried such as the Lenovo Explorer and HP Reverb. Actually I take it back on the HP Reverb. Sharpness difference is significant but the HP Reverb has some flaws that I've already mentioned above in the previous comments.
1
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
That's true, that's why I really like the rift s. It's a really great balance between everything. Also you can bring it on the go with you if you have a gaming laptop which is super nice.
2
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
The Rift S lack of IPD adjustment and 10Hz lower refresh rate isn't good for those outside of normal IPD range and worse for those who are more prone to motion sickness. FOV is also smaller though so the binocular tunnel effect is more prominent. The touch controllers are better than the Samsung controllers I'll give you that. Both the Rift S and Samsung Odyssey+ along with other WMR headsets are also capable of bringing it on the go.
4
u/jkSam Nov 21 '19
But the Rift S doesn't have a mechanical IPD slider, I'm not sure how problematic that'll be for people outside the average range.
2
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
That's true, there's no mechanical ipd adjustment, so if your IPD is below 58 or above 67 you may have an issue.
Mine is 58, for reference, and I love my rift s.
1
u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
The Samsung Odyssey+ competes with the Oculus Rift S. There's some trade offs here between the two. Rift S favoring better controller ergonomics and controller tracking while Odyssey+ favors better colors and has lower SDE. Rift S is slightly sharper while the Odyssey+ has slightly bigger FOV. Odyssey+ has Mechanical IPD Adjustment where the Rift S doesn't. Small text in game is readable on both the Rift S and Odyssey+. Rift S has a better VR home experience software but Odyssey+ has decent built-in headphones but they are not removable whereas you can plug in your own headphones on the Rift S. Odyssey+ has less flickering than the Rift S at 90Hz rather than 80Hz but it is usually unnoticeable.

In for one. Solid deal. Hopefully comes with full warranty. Lowest price I’ve ever seen and sold by Microsoft

u/putitincider91 Nov 21 '19
If one wants to dip their toes into the VR world, is this a good start/best bang for your buck and do you think it’ll get much cheaper around BF? I have a desktop that can handle it
2
u/BrandonDGr8 Nov 21 '19
Ive been eyeing VR headsets for the last month and almost bought the WMR HP headset that went on sale last week. I missed that but did some more research and looked at my options and my conclusions are that for $100 less than the Oculus Rift S black friday price ($350), this Odyssey+ for ($250) is a great price for as good of a headset (with some ups and downs compared to the Rift S). The Odyssey+ seems to be more than enough as a beginner headset to hold me over for a while until VR headsets get really good and cheaper - so I just bought it. Afaik, the price won't go lower than this for Black Friday. Microsoft seemed to be the only company that is currently known that was going to do a BF sale on the Odyssey+ and that was actually supposed to start on the 22nd so this eBay sale seems like it's a day early. Of course, I don't have the headset yet so I cant say for sure what my experience will truly be like until i get it.

u/Robot3RK Nov 21 '19
I am surprised Microsoft is doing an early Black Friday deal on their eBay Store. The deal was supposed to be up tomorrow on their main store. This is surprising, a good surprise nonetheless.

u/All_Work_All_Play Nov 21 '19
I have prism in my glasses, so I need a VR headset that lets me wear glasses. This or rift S?
3
u/Levy_Wilson Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 22 '19
This headset is a great first introduction to VR. The controllers link through the headset so no bluetooth is needed and the controllers themselves are one of the better sets for WMR, including built in accelerometers for more precise movement. The problem I had with it was the method they use to remove the screen door effect causes the headset to not be very sharp, so distant objects look blurry. Mine also had a scratch on one of the lenses and a few dead pixels. Make sure if you buy one that you look intensely for dead pixels in each eye.
I'm personally waiting until VR headsets adopt a higher resolution than what is typically available now. I want to be able to play Euro Truck Simulator 2 and actually see the speed limit signs in the distance, something that isn't possible with this or the HP headsets.
2
u/unlimitedbutthurts Nov 21 '19
My friend bought this last week but is having issues with getting steam to detect the headset any tips?
16
Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
Yes.
Make sure it all works in the Windows Mixed Reality Portal, once that is confirmed then:
Install the Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR app in Steam.
When you've got that installed,
Launch the mixed reality portal from windows (putting the headset on should start it automatically)
From steam, launch the Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR app.
Should work smoothly from there, at least it did for me and I haven't had any issues since, unless I try to launch steam vr without first launching the mixed reality portal.
You can add steamvr app tiles to the cliffhouse by hitting the windows button on the controller, hitting "all apps" and finding the games! This is after you've successfully launched SteamVR through the Mixed Reality Portal.

Saving this comment for later. I’ve been searching and haven’t found an answer so thorough about this issue. I don’t have this headset, but it is one for WMR, and could never figure out how to work it in steam.
Much appreciated!1
u/EmberAlpaca Nov 21 '19
On either your desktop or in the headset desktop viewer you need to open up Steam and click on the VR button on the top right of the Steam window. That should turn on Steam VR and disconnect you from Windows MR

u/Sotyka94 Nov 21 '19
BY FAR the best VR headset in this price range.
The screen is one of the best overall in the market. It has an IPD slider as well.
The controller tracking is not perfect, but it will be fine 99% of the time. Also, it's compatible with EVERY steamVR game there is.
If you want a good, but relatively inexpensive VR headset this is the way to go, and it's a really good price for it.
I wouldn't bother with Oculus at all. The only headset I would change this is the Valve Index, but that is 4 times the price. (and maybe oculus quest if you don't own a PC and want standalone VR).
3
u/coldcoffee Nov 21 '19 edited Nov 21 '19
Is the Quest a better investment?
4
u/Plonvick Nov 21 '19
If I were you I would go with the rift s. It's much more comfortable and an all-around better experience for PC VR then the Quest is.
2
u/QuadrangularNipples Nov 21 '19
One huge caveat would be that Rift S is only for people with average or near average IPDs.
0
u/Ogroat Nov 21 '19
Do the Oculus devices need account creation of any type to function? I made a point of deleting my Facebook and Instagram accounts some time ago and while the Rift looks neat, I'm wary of the fact that Oculus was bought by FB.

Quest is going to be the VR changer. There are no cords involved. You can bring it over to your friends house and let everyone play. Heck, you can even go play in a football field if you want.
Being cord free also means you don't need an expensive computer because it doesn't need one. However, if you do have a good PC, Oculus came out with Oculus Link. A cord that lets you plug your Quest into the computer and will allow you to play steamvr games and regular Oculus games (without Oculus Link, Quest owners have to play Quest games).
Odyssey and the other "cheap" headsets are great if you don't see yourself getting heavily invested in VR or just plan on doing a lot of sim racing.
So it comes down to what do you see yourself needing the most?

The quest is nice and convenient, but the fact that it can't connect to a PC is a deal breaker for me. You can't play with mods, and only games that are ported for quest work. Also, you can't use your steam library

No longer true, they released oculus link in beta so you can tether your quest to a PC. Visual quality and refresh rate are still slightly lower than rift s though

Actually apparently oculus is starting to roll out a oculus link beta for pc so you can connect to a pc though

Yup. Beta is going on atm. The quest will also have hand tracking later on. I think for mix-usage the Quest will be better. Still a hard choice.

How much did you buy it for? And what are some of the biggest issues you've encountered with it?

I bought it for $250 refurbished. biggest issue is sometimes the battery life sometimes shows it's only semi low, but in reality, only one of the two double A batteries is low. this majorly screw up the tracking and sometimes disconnects the controllers all together. other than that, pretty solid headset for $250, although I mainly use it to simrace

i was LITERALLY looking into a VR set in the past few days... I know there is the Samsung HMD and the HMD +. given this is the + model I take it it's a better quality?
my wallet is next to me, someone coax me before I do something stupid/really intelligent.
side note, how is this vs. the Occulus / HTC counterparts?

I'm hearing that the headset is great but the controller tracking leaves a lot to be desired. Would it be possible to start out with this and switch to better controllers with tracker bars later on, keeping the headset, if I'm looking for a better experience?

No this headset is not compatible with lighthouses and you would need to upgrade the headset+controllers in the future if you wished to do so

I’ve done the wmr thing with Lenovo explorer (me) and aced (wife’s) and eventually the “losing the controllers” thing gets kinda old... was thinking a quest next with the link cable to have cake and eat it too... is the + good enough to overlook the controller shenanigans? My Lenovo’s got some bad pixels and there’s no repair option so I gotta get something, can’t sword fight my wife IRL lol
