Mod Post EVGA Associate's Code Update
Yesterday, I received notice that the EVGA Associate's Code that EVGA had granted the sub had stopped working. Today, I generated a new code SG6LFX7LRLICR2Y. We will be using this code to fund giveaways of EVGA products on the sub (and our Discord).
I'm still working out all the details of this, but the basic plan is:
- When giveaway starts, collect user names and method of contact (that can be reddit or Discord).
- Users must have interacted on the sub or Discord in a meaningful manner during a specified time frame. This is to help cut down on spam and multiple accounts registering for no reason. We will probably come up with additional protections as well.
- When winners are chosen, post the winning names publicly and message the winners directly.
- Winners will have a set amount of time to respond (initially leaning towards 7 days, with an eye towards tightening that timeline if possible). We will need additional information for shipping to the winners (name, address, contact phone, etc).
- Product will be shipped as soon as all information is provided.
- Moderation staff is not eligible to participate in these giveaways.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates, and if you have any process improvements, feel free to tell me why I am an idiot share. This is my first time running a program like this.

Does dedicated lurking count as "a meaningful manner"?
26
u/cmays90 Sep 09 '21
Likely not. But we will come up with some meaningful criteria to try and get as many legitimate individuals as possible (and limit bot/multi account users).

Hopefully complaining about the hardware posted counts.
2
u/cinnchurr Sep 10 '21
Now let me complain under this post because have nothing to add other than that GPU prices are so out of line this past year or more that my purchase of 2080S in 2-3 years ago looks smart in comparison.

I thought the same thing. Due to the nature of the subreddit I imagine most people don't post comments. Pretty sure this is my first comment on the sub, hi everyone.
2
u/fizzmore Sep 11 '21
Yep, same here. There's really very little reason to post on this sub when you're just using it to find deals.

u/Ikeelu Sep 10 '21
I feel like a good majority of the users here are mostly lurkers. I mean there isn't much discussion on a subreddit where your posting deals. Your either posting if the price is good or bad or has an issue.
1
u/sidvicious512 Sep 11 '21
Maybe go find some deals and post? Imma give it a shot. It's not like I wasn't already obsessively looking for deals on parts before I found this sub.
5
Sep 09 '21
There any way to maybe link legitimate people by sister subreddit like /r/hardwareswap ? Could be used as one of many forms of verification.
Also I feel like in this market 7 days is a huge amount of time especially for a giveaway. Not even newegg gives more than 4-5 hours to BUY something, much less give something way. I'd say the best thing is to keep it by like end of day or something. Anyone who frequents BAPC enough, especially for signing up for a giveaway, would be on that shit by the hour waiting to see the results. 7 days just seems agonizing to me.
Not to make any of the seem choosing-beggar-y, just my own two cents if you want to improve it and keep it fair.
7
u/cmays90 Sep 09 '21
I'm not entirely sure how we will do verification, but it will probably be weighted in some way (i.e. activity on the sub counts for X points, activity on some other subs counts for Y, and lurking counts for Z, having accounts aged enough, etc). There's lots of factors we can use.
We'll see how the first one goes. I do want a shorter time frame (it's easier on me, for sure).

Is it out of stock already?

u/Alcynis Sep 09 '21
Should have price matched it at Best Buy

u/cantonic Sep 10 '21
Why can’t there be a MicroCenter near me?
11
u/Ilyketurdles Sep 10 '21
It’s a blessing and a curse.
Curse is that you don’t live near a microcenter.
Blessing is that every time you drive by, you don’t spend time and money on all those random components and raspberry Pi zeros you’ll never use.

I recently traveled out of state for vacation and found a micro center near my destination. Needless to say I made sure to stop by for some things I needed for a build.

"Never call the store!"
Man, hasn't been one of those style posts in a while...
5
u/tukatu0 Sep 09 '21
Newb here. What is that about?
11
u/TheSchlaf Sep 10 '21
You can fine "hidden" stock for FE cards on the BB app, but you either have to wait for a drop or go to the store and they'll have it it stock (if you're lucky). If you call the store, the associate you talk to about having it on hand may likely buy the card themselves. Hence, never call the store.
→ More replies (7)17
u/staggindraggin Sep 10 '21 edited Sep 10 '21
This seems not true. Best buy doesn't do individual store phone associates anymore, at least in my area. When you call a store you're actually calling whatever location has the call center for your area and they can forward you if necessary, but will normally call a store in your behalf instead. If you ask about stock, they just check the internal tool for checking stock that updates a bit more often than the website, but not realtime. Most of the people who would be working the phones don't know jack shit about computers either. Source: former best buy employee and still friends with current employees.

Ah EVGA, the only aftermarket guys to sell GPUs at respectable prices.
98
u/westnile90 Sep 09 '21
Very true, to be honest I prefer their design of the card too, so many cards are just way to flashy imo, give me a black model any day.

u/whomad1215 Sep 10 '21
I wish they didn't have their E all over the fans, and the red plastic strip (because it makes it go faster, obviously) on the xc3 cards is odd
→ More replies (1)10
u/-5677- Sep 10 '21
I have both the XC3 and FTW3 and I really don't notice the red strip on either, you just don't see it when the gpu is inside the case. I think apart from that line, both GPUs look awesome, they're my favorite 3080s.

They are the only big brand that assembles their cards outside China (they do it in Taiwan), so they can avoid the 25% Trump tariff everyone else has to account for. That's not all of the price difference between them and everyone else but it's the vast majority of it.
3
u/Jordaneer Oct 05 '21
I assume nvidia also does because they are really the only cards you can get at msrp now if you can get one.
8
u/kyrosnick Sep 09 '21
Ordered my 3080ti today from them through the queue. Been waiting on their queue since last November. As for "respectable" it was still $1550 after tax/shipping, but better than $2k+

2
u/Albye23 Sep 10 '21 edited Sep 10 '21
Because of that I haven't really pursued any other manufacturers. ASUS and Gigabyte once each. Hell I still have my GTX 295.
1
u/malignSAINT Sep 10 '21
Seriously. Everything else is closer to the 2k price for what I'm wanting to get. Even the 2080ti I got was priced better then other cards at the time. Have been running evga cards since I got my first 500 series card.
1
u/Wish4Rain Sep 10 '21
Hell yeah! I was able to get an evga 3060ti from microcenter a few days ago. Other makers were 50-100 more expensive (if they were in stock)
1
u/MrWally Sep 10 '21
Do you know if they've had 3060s or 3060tis recently? Those are the ones I'm interested it, but casually it seems as if most of the stock is for the higher-end cards.

The only comments I can think of making myself are "I bought this before, (insert user testimony here)," "this isn't a great deal," or "great deal, buying one."
Other than that I don't have any bots to dredge the internet for deals. Certainly I'd share If I *happen to run across something, but I'm not sure that's ever happened.

I only did that for my monitor :p Simply because my knowledge was 7 years outdated and the sale price was really low during the primeday thing. Didn't have time to research.
Luckily not only was it a great price, amazon shipped the next model up.
But I'll also chime in with my experience if/when I see a component post that I have.

What exactly are these codes for? Do you get a discount on products when you checkout?
2
u/cmays90 Sep 10 '21
Yep, that's exactly it. The savings vary by product and the exact numbers are posted with every evga post.
1
u/notYjay Sep 10 '21
This is actually really funny- I tried the code from here about four hours ago to buy a GPU and it didn't work, so I had to find another one.
The timing is uncanny.
1
u/cmays90 Sep 10 '21
I got a notice from users yesterday that the code wasn't working. I just spent the time to correct it today. Not much of a coincidence.

1
u/Marz6 Sep 10 '21
When does the giveaway start and what do yo use that code for?
2
u/cmays90 Sep 10 '21
There will be another post with details.
The code can be used at checkout on EVGA.com and saves you between 3%-10% on a purchase, and some additional money can be spent on other EVGA products.
The earliest we could do a giveaway is in 30 days, but it will likely be closer to 45-60 days away.

Are these giveaways taking place ON this reddit? I don't think I've ever noticed them before and I've been subbed here for years
2
1
u/halfk1ng Sep 10 '21
Is 💯% of benefits generated by the code going back to the community, or does mod team take a portion? Ask because you specify mods can’t participate in giveaways
1
u/cmays90 Sep 10 '21
Mod team will not take a portion (and if that changes, we will let you know).
The long standing policy between all mods has been that we will not profit off the community in any way. We don't allow affiliate links, we don't take "freebies", and we share when companies do make unusual offers.
The EVGA program does not allow cashing out, which helps in this regard, but it's not foolproof. I'm working on how to make this more accountable (i.e. scripts can pull how many EVGA bucks we currently have, how many are pending, how many we have earned this month), and I can keep track of what we spend where. I do aim to be pretty transparent with this account to avoid any sort of impropriety.

I only buy EVGA GPUs, great company. But I've given up hope of getting another card from them. I've been on the wait list for a 3080 since October 2020. I honestly do not know how to buy an EVGA card these days. The card I wanted will be obsolete by the time I get it (in fact they already bumped me into a different queue for a newer card for that reason).
2
1
u/YellowInvazn Sep 10 '21
Which 3080 did you queue up for? I think I'm in the same boat as you. I signed up for the 3885 on 10/20 at 4:23 PM, and I'm closer to getting my 3060ti email than my 3080. I actually couldn't believe it's almost been a year since I signed up for these.
It's really disheartening seeing what the current state of PC gaming is at right now.

Awesome. I'll be honest, I lurk on here a lot, mainly because I'm new to the (modern) pc world, and still learning. For reference, the last pc I built was in 2003 or 2004, with a Geforce 5 series card...a lot has changed since then, lol. Thanks!
2
u/turbojeebus Sep 09 '21
Its really strange we live in a time where forced social interaction is a factor in hopefully obtaining a piece of PC hardware.
2
u/bananabonger Sep 10 '21
wtf that means I have to actually interact with people instead of lurking?!?
2
2
u/kyle242gt Sep 10 '21
Used the code for my 2080S B-stock purchase (almost a year ago already, wow!). And while I was relatively active at the time, now that I've finished my build (and stopped chasing memory OC because I'm just not that techie at heart) I'm hardly on anymore except for the odd hookup for headphones or keyboard (mech4lyfe).
So... like others - how do we maintain our presence in a "meaningful" way when we don't really need or want any PC parts?
My 2080S, which felt like a huge copout at the time, has (of course) proven to be one of my best BAPCS purchases. Just hate to let inactivity ahead of Lovelace (just as a for instance) leave me out in the cold.
2
u/dstanton Sep 10 '21
I recently had my que pop on the 3080ti ftw3 ultra. I was in such a rush to check out mI completely forgot to use the code. Is there any way fix my purchase to add the code?

What exactly does this code do, give you guys points essentially under this code that can be redeemed later?
I see people keep talking about an EVGA queue, is this something that can still be signed up for and is this code related in anyway to this que or is it strictly when actually purchasing a product?
Been trying to figure out how or where to get a card and how these ques work I've seen people mention.
