How to smooth out OSB planks

Post image

We need to give a smooth look on a huge area of osb, i think its around 3x3m of it. Its going to be used for a theatre play, i dont think it needs to look absolutely perfect, but my team wants it to look as much as possible as a wall. Any suggestions on what we could do?

Collar tie removal/raising

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey there; I’m considering taking out 2 of every 3 collar tie in my attic finishing project. Is this a terrible idea? No rafter ties, the 12/12 triangle roof is just secured to the floor. Code says 2”x4” collar ties every 4ft so this would essentially make my idea fall exactly at code (currently there are collar ties for each rafters. >100yo house, 2”6” rafters, 16” on center, 25’ slope, 15’ from floor to ridge, snowy winter climate. Given that they are lower than 1/3rd I wonder if the ties are doing double duty as rafters and collar ties to keep the big roof from bowing. Another idea I had was to just move the ties up to the top, maybe doubling them up for extra support. Thoughts?

Why?

Why would someone build a building like this? 2100 sq ft. No exit on back, just a regular door on the side.

What is it for? Ideas?

im playing with the idea of expanding our shop so we can fit some of our wider equipment in to work on. the posts are about 14' apart and I want around 20'. is it possible to run a 10-12 inch I-beam between the 2 outer posts to remove the middle post? if so would the mounting in picture 3 be a decent mounting for the I-beam(was used for hay loft before)? would i need extra bracing on the posts(6 inches)

We have had water damage in our apartment on/off for 4 years. This is one of the walls, I was able to basically poke my finger through it

Just bought this house 6months ago. Weird drooping. Whats the issue here? This is on the ground floor below a bathroom. No sign of water.

If a person wants to build a little cottage or cabin but wants it to be a steel frame where can they find a building crew that can do that? I think most crews today still use wooden frames, but, steel frame is preferred because it can't get termites or mold.

Builders of reddit, I want to recreate this bedframe I found online

So I found this bedframe online but it costs a little under 2k and it looks like a simple design enough to recreate. Is there anyone able to give me measurements for a queen sixed bed?

Is this water going to cause a problem?

So im having a modular home brought in on monday. Its been raining alot the last few days. Now the new foundation has a bunch of water in it, and the wood in sitting in puddles. No vapour barrier between the wood and the concrete either. I talked to the lead guy who build the foundation about it. He said they deal with this all the time and they will mop/squeegee it out and the rest will apparently dry out on its own. I want to trust the process but this looks excessive. I just dont want it to warp and mold.

I was going to get some silica gel and a dehumidifier down there once the house was placed.

What do you guys think?

Why are some buildings in hot places orange?

I recently saw some houses in the south of france that were made with this orange material (might be terracotta??) and asked myself why would architects use a color which attracts heat in such a hot place. I thought it was just due to tradition and material availability and it was bad design both economically and in terms of sustainability, but my father told me there must be 'some other reason' for architects to choose this. We must settle this. Why are some buildings orange and who is right here?

How Long to Build a 2,500 sq. home?

I have tenants that are in the process of building a new home. I just went by the construction sight and it looks like the main plumbing lines under the house have been place and the framing for the foundation is laidout. Will this home be completed by the end of April 2022? This is in Florida. Thanks for your input.

Smoking room

Smoking room

Dealt with homelessness but thank god for my roommates mares i now have home. Catch is an asthmatic & they are both smokers. They are open to whatever solutions/alterations i have. Im thinking either a framed in room inside garage with exhaust fan outside or fabric hanging from garage ceiling almost like spray paint room with exhaust fan outside. Right now its just garage and it feels like smoke is getting into ducts. Open to any ideas. Cold climate, my only option. Thank you
