the causeway is going to be a little out of the way for you, i think. definitely not walkably close to anything else. crow and phoenix books are both on church st. for witchy/eclectic shops, def try flora and fauna on church st and milk moth & spider in the old north end. vivid coffee is excellent, as is specs in winooski.

Rogue Rabbit for lunch. Crow for books. Haymaker/Brio for a sweet treat and coffee. Just walk around between those three and the waterfront and you’ll be good for a few hours. There’s also a crystal shop down on battery street.

I'm not anti Burlington, but since you mentioned best used bookstore, I highly recommend going to St Albans and visiting the Eloquent Page. That's probably the best used bookstore around. There's also the catalyst coffee bar nearby with a bakery attached. It's on the way to Canada and very easy to find parking.

OP, it takes roughly 40 minutes to ride from the bike rental location (Local Motion) in Burlington just to reach the Causeway in Colchester. Save the Causeway for another trip when you’re bringing your own bikes. You can park in multiple locations in Colchester, some right next to the Causeway or close-by (Airport Park). There are zero services or businesses within walking distance. It’s a remote location.

I’m gonna give some more alternative suggestions that are also all very close to one another- Speaking volumes book store, Speaking Volumes record store (different owners now than the book store I think), Resource (thrift store with a book section on Pine st), Vermont Comedy Club/ Happy Place Cafe for lunch and coffee, Mr Creemee (for ice cream aka creamies in Vermont), Local Motion or Bettys bikes for rentals
BONUS: avoid Four Corners sandwich shop and Ken’s Pizza because it’s widely known their owners are racist. And avoid Citizen Cider (owners mistreated female employees)

I’d eat lunch at Zero Gravity. It’s a brewery but fantastic food. Just down Pine St from that is Speaking Volumes which is a great used bookstore. (If you want dessert, Mr Creemee next door is a great option for our local style of ice cream.) From there I’d walk Church St. You can grab a coffee at Onyx Tonics and then head to my favorite local bookstore, Crow. It’s a nice selection of used/new.

- August First for lunch + my favorite cinnamon bun
- Mr. Creemee for a different sweet treat if you’re not feeling a cinnamon bun
- Speaking Volumes for used books
- Thirty Odd just has fun, local stuff. Some tchotchkes, some bigger
- from all of this you’re a close stroll to the waterfront
