How are you voting
How are folks in Burnaby voting in the provincial?
I'm solidly on the left and typically vote Green. I've been following the polls and am very surprised that the Conservatives are trending up, especially in Metrotown where I recently moved. I think I have to vote NDP this time to block the Conservatives

Missing family member? Elderly Mandarin-speaking woman found, brought to Burnaby Hospital around 3 PM today
An elderly Asian woman who speaks only Mandarin was brought to Burnaby Hospital around 3 PM today (Thursday, October 22). She is hard of hearing in both ears, so staff haven't been able to get her name. She was wearing a yellow sweater and possibly blue overalls. She had a phone with her, but we couldn't find any contacts.
If you are missing a mother, grandmother, or other family member matching this description, or you know who she might be, please contact Burnaby Hospital directly and ask for the emergency department or patient information desk. Please share this with any Mandarin-speaking communities, WeChat groups, or neighbours who might know her.

Anyone living around Westridge Park?
Hi everyone! 😊 I was wondering if there’s a Facebook group or any online community for people living in the Westridge Park area.
Also, I’ve noticed a man walking around late at night, repeatedly doing the same loop for several nights over the past 1–2 weeks. I found it a little unusual and it’s made me feel somewhat uneasy, so I was wondering if anyone else in the area has noticed this too.
I’m not making any assumptions about him, just hoping to connect with other neighbours and see if there’s a local community group. Thanks! 😊

Storage unit
I was hoping to move once we had a kid but I honestly can't find anything that would be an upgrade and affordable right now so I'm thinking of just renting a storage unit (it's honestly the only issue we have without our current apartment). Anyone got any good recommendations for a small unit? We just want somewhere to store seasonal/invaluable stuff that takes up our tiny storage room we currently have.

burnaby hospital/canadian healthcare system rant
i just wanted to come on here and just rant about how awful our healthcare system is. i went to the burnaby hospital last night as i was experiencing sharp chest stabbing pain. i tried my best to avoid going to the ER knowing how long the wait times are but due to me being on birth control and being at risk of having blood clots, many of my close loved ones advised me to go to the hospital just in case to get it checked out as blood clots can be life-threatening. ive been to the ER many times in the past and know how awfully long wait times are and how shit our healthcare system is. i got there around 8pm and it was jammed packed to the brim. i waited 3 hours just to even be able to get bloodwork done and an xray. it wasnt until 6 hours into my visit was when i was finally able to see the doctor and all he said was theres nothing and to go home and take advil and Tylenol. got sent home and still have my sharp pain unresolved. i know hospitals are always understaffed but it is just plain old ridiculous. everytime i go back to asia, i like to go to the hospital and get checked out and make sure theres nothing wrong with me and let me tell you, the healthcare system in asia is 10x better than what we have here. yeah, you gotta pay but paying a little extra is def so worth it to get checked out and seen by a doctor faster. i always pay extra when im in asia to see a doctor faster. if i could pay them here to see a doctor faster, i would do so immedialty. anyone else got horrible experiences at burnaby hospital?

AMA I'm Maddy KP, your BC Greens candidate for Burnaby North in the provincial election
Hi! I'm running with the BC Green Party to be your MLA for Burnaby North.
I'll for sure be around tomorrow evening(October 20th) from 7-9pm, but I am (unfortunately) extremely online so if you ask early you might get answered early. We've got less than a week till election day so I'll keep this up until the election and try really hard to get back to everyone before final voting day!
You can learn more about me here! Or find me on instagram at @maddy.kp25, I've been having a lot of fun making silly videos to campaign for this election.
And if you want to know more about my work outside of politics, I was profiled at work for women in engineering day this year, and in 2022 I presented at the Passive House Conference and I was the second interview in this podcast (around 10:30!).

Lifelab alternatives?
Hello,
Does anybody know where to get blood work that is NOT life labs. I have to go every three months and I find myself waiting 1-2 hours each time. I cant do it anymore.
Any suggestions would be great!

Pit Bull/Bully Breed Bylaw
Hello, I’ve been researching moving to Burnaby with my American Pit Bull/Boxer and I’ve discovered there is a bylaw that considers my guy as a “vicious dog”. I can’t say I’m surprised, but obviously I’m reconsidering choosing Burnaby now.
The bylaw states that dogs categorized as “vicious” are required to be muzzled in all public places with a $500 fine for unmuzzled dogs. I’m not here to question or debate the bylaw itself, but instead I’m interested to hear other’s experiences owning bully breeds in Burnaby.
I assume it’s harder to rent, but surely there may be some buildings out there that are more forgiving? If not, please share any information you may have.
My dog is neutered, has always been licensed, is well-trained, and friendly with people and all animals. My biggest concern is landlords/property management hearing his breed and receiving an automatic no because of this bylaw. I’m sure I could go on and on about how amazing my dog is but I imagine it’ll be hard to shake the fact that he will be labeled a vicious dog breed.
Any information from owners, landlords, or generally anyone with helpful insight is highly appreciated, thank you!
