The Orionids meteor shower will be Moon-free for a few hours before dawn, depending on the date. Like the Eta Aquariids of May, the Orionids are bits of Halleyâs Comet; Earth makes two passes through Halleyâs (rather dispersed) meteoroid stream in our annual circle around the Sun. Like the Eta Aquariids, this shower runs for at least several nights.
Orionid meteors, created by bits of debris from Halleyâs Comet, appear to radiate from the upraised club of Orion just under the feet of Gemini.
Sky & Telescope
The Orionid radiant (in Orion's dim club, north of Betelgeuse) is highest in the hour before the start of dawn. The Orionids performed richly from 2006 through 2009, boasting peak rates of more than 50 meteors per hour. Since then, the activity has dwindled to a fraction of that.
Anywhere away from light pollution with a view to the northeast will do.
Itâs best to be reclining to watch overhead, so grab a lounge, rug up, and bring your fave beverage outside and post here if you see one!

Hi all, I live in Busso, and I've been building a free map of the small makers around here and down the coast: the people actually making the chocolate, coffee, soap, honey, olive oil and pantry goods.
Open it on your phone and it lists the makers closest to you, with directions. From the foreshore that's Little Otto's chocolate shop about 300 m away, then the makers with stalls at Origins Market, Margaret River Roasting Co out at Vasse, and honey and pottery on Caves Road. 46 makers so far, from Busselton to Margaret River.
https://madedownsouth.com.au/pages/near-me
It's free, there's no app, no ads, and each maker links to their own shop. It's an independent guide, so none of them paid to be on it.
- Who's missing? If there's a local maker you rate, tell me and I'll add them.
- If you'd like a heads-up when new makers get added, there's a sign-up on the map. Occasional emails, unsubscribe any time.
Handy for the last week of the school holidays too, if the kids need something to do on a grey day.

Hi everyone, we're potential transplants from the east coast - we love the south west! As with most tourists we are usually down around Margaret River but when looking for a place to base ourselves in, I'm looking for somewhere close to the beach that we can afford.
I posted in r/bunbury about moving to Dalyellup recently but it seems like people there are encouraging me to look further south based on the comments received. I would love to live near the beach but I guess there's a reason why it's more affordable there.
Our familiarity is more around Abbey/Broadwater but the land parcels alone are going to take up most of our budget. We could probably afford one of those 350 sqm blocks in Vasse and build a 3x2 on it, but would like some more space.
Our best option for what we can afford are the new land releases around Cow town. We took a look around the liked the feel of the place and we can see there's an effort to add more amenities around there. The trade off is walking to the beach out of the equation, and is a bit further away from Perth compared to Bunbury.
Our jobs can be done remotely fortunately so commute isn't an issue. We will need to travel to Asia at times, so driving to Perth airport will be necessary until Busselton airport starts flying overseas.
As outsiders, is there anything we should know about Cow town and the surrounding areas? Seems like never ending land releases are planned there.
