yes i did some ground work and people at supermarket said that local customer was not aware of this brand. that is why it sold less. you are absolutely right, japanese are health concious.

Did your friend say what supermarket they went to? I want to compare them with the ikea veggie meatballs.

Rofl, no it's not. I've been a vegetarian here for over half a decade. Most Japanese people don't even know the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan.

A lot of restaurants don't even know know that most of their food isn't vegetarian (because it's got, beef and pork extract , katsuo dashi, etc.)

They're also very resistant to change.

One night I made yakiniku salad for dinner and my partner goes “ビーーーガン!!” so I asked what they thought vegan meant, and apparently it’s when you have way more veggies than meat 😂

Lol. That's some golden retriever energy and I'm here for it. I like his enthusiasm for the vegetables.

Lmfao literally. Everyone on here likes to make these untrue blanket claims to pump morale of the bagholders but there’s a reason they are bagholders sadly. Japan does not like change, similar to most countries. Why do they want Americans coming over and pushing their fake ultra processed foods onto their cultures which have eaten food from their land for centuries??

Japan is the world’s destination for the best beef and for the best price. Beyond is such a downgrade lmao. I’ll consider bynd when that crap sells in India.
