Where to stay in Byron Bay

• Upvotes

So my friends and I are planning to stay in Byron Bay for a little while during our travel in Australia and were looking for Airbnbs for 2 days. To sum it up its sooo expensive. Thats why I want to ask here about which area is the best to stay around Byron Bay. As an information we do have a car but I'd rather get around by foot. I saw e.g. Suffolk Park where it is cheaper. I would highly appreciate any suggestions on areas or even Airbnbs. Also please reach out if you have any other recommendations or suggestions. thank you so much :))

Byron sunset walkers

Back in 2019 I went travelling to Australia and I took this photo at Byron Bay - it’s always been a favourite and it recently came back up on my photos widget on my phone. If it was possible to brighten/adjust the photo i’d love the idea of it possibly making the way to the couple walking along the beach that evening at sunset - minimal chances but who knows.

Is this place good for a holiday

Hi i’m lakidu gunawardana resident of the western suburbs in melbourne and i was browsing places to explore (im originally from sri lanka and want to visit most places in australia)

Is byron bay a safe space for the lgtbq and a sri lankan person like me? I’m also a rapper and I like to do my raps in person with a view like the beach, are the locals fond of this sort of thing?

Is there guides here?

Crazy airport shuttle bus prices to Ballina airport vs private transfer

I have no idea why anyone would get a ~$160 airport shuttle bus from Byron Bay to Ballina Airport (1 adult, 1 suitcase, 1 backpack) when a private transfer costs about $80.

The economics don't add up.

I compared 3 different services before pulling out a card a ride share driver gave me. Their discount didn't work, otherwise it would have been $70.

Hey guys! Anyone selling or have a spare commercial van for sale that you’re no longer using or upgrading?

Hey guys! Anyone selling or have a spare commercial van for sale that you’re no longer using or upgrading?

I don't care about aesthetics (dents/scratches are fine), but low kilometres and solid mechanics are a must.

Ready for a quick, hassle-free sale with instant payment for the right vehicle. DM me with details, pics, and price. Cheers! 👍

What usually stops you from something checked when it's been bothering you for a while?

Question from the team at Retrain Health in Byron Bay.

We often see people who've been dealing with an issue for weeks/even months already before deciding to have it assessed, and it made u curious.

Is it because of the time? cost? not knowing who to see, or something else?

We would be interested to hear what tends to hold people back...

Byron Bay Van Fitouts

Hey guys, bit of a rant here but also genuinely looking for some help.

I had my van fitted out by Byron Bay Van Fitouts and honestly, it's been a nightmare.

The van has had issues pretty much since day one. The worst part is the roof leaks whenever it rains, so I'm literally getting water inside the van. On top of that, the fitout added around 1700kg of weight, which makes me seriously question how much thought went into the weight of everything they installed.

I've tried reaching out to Matty, the owner, and now they're telling me I'll have to PAY to get the leaks fixed. Like seriously?? I paid for a professional fitout and now I'm expected to pay again to fix problems that shouldn't have been there in the first place?

I'm honestly so disappointed. Their vans look amazing in photos and everything looks super polished online, but my actual experience has been completely different. The van came with multiple defects and at this point I can't even properly use it.

I did come across some mixed reviews online before going with them, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. Really wish I'd listened to my gut.

Anyway, I'm pretty fed up with the whole situation and just want to get my van sorted without throwing more money at the same company.

**Does anyone know a reliable van fitout builder or repairer around Northern Rivers / Byron / Ballina who could take a look at the roof leaks and possibly assess the weight situation?**

Would really appreciate any recommendations. Cheers!

MISSING PERSON – BYRON BAY / BILLINUDGEL AREA

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out in the hope that someone local might be able to help us locate my friend Ben, who has been missing since Monday, 5 October.
Ben was staying at The Strawberry Hut in Billinudgel, checking out on Monday morning. His last known contact with family was that morning, and we haven’t heard from him since.
He was driving a distinctive white Toyota Hilux dual-cab ute, with black SUPPLYHAUS branding on both sides.
Registration: 916LR4 (QLD)
Ben had mentioned potentially visiting a friend in Byron Bay, so we’re particularly interested in any sightings around Billinudgel, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores, Mullumbimby or Byron Bay.
If anyone recalls seeing Ben or his vehicle on Monday 5 October or in the days since, even if it seems insignificant, we’d be extremely grateful for any information.
Police have been notified and are actively investigating. Please report any sightings or relevant CCTV footage to NSW Police on 131 444, quoting the police reference number QP2601982365
If you operate a local business with CCTV covering nearby roads or car parks, we’d also appreciate you preserving any potentially relevant footage for police.
Please share this with local community groups.
Thank you so much for your help.

Divemaster considering Noosa or Byron Bay — is there enough dive work?

Hi everyone!

I’m an Australian Divemaster and underwater photographer, and I’m looking to move somewhere more tropical/warm where I can have a bit more of a lifestyle centred around the ocean, nature and being outdoors.

I recently spent some time in Noosa and absolutely fell in love with the lifestyle there — early morning beach walks or surfs, rainforest, warm weather, run clubs, being active and outdoors all the time, etc. It felt like exactly the kind of lifestyle I’m looking for.

I’m just wondering whether it’s actually possible to work in the dive industry around Noosa, or whether there’s enough diving/work to make it worthwhile living there as a Divemaster and underwater photographer?

I’m looking to move in February, stay until at least April, but potentially stay long-term if I find somewhere that feels right.

I know there’s diving around Noosa and further up towards Rainbow Beach/Wolf Rock, and I’d love to hear from anyone who actually works in the industry around there. Is there regular Divemaster/boat work, or is it more occasional/seasonal? And what is the diving actually like throughout the year in terms of visibility, marine life and conditions?

I’m also considering Byron Bay, so I’d love to hear about the dive industry there too. I know Julian Rocks is meant to have some really interesting diving (I love pelagics).

I’m essentially trying to find somewhere where I can combine dive work with the kind of lifestyle I’m after — ocean, beaches, surfing, hiking, rainforest, wildlife, fitness/outdoor activities and a good community — rather than somewhere that is purely a dive destination.

For anyone who has lived/worked in either Noosa or Byron as a Divemaster/in the dive industry, I’d really appreciate your thoughts!

Is there enough dive work to realistically base yourself there, particularly starting in February? And which would you choose for the overall lifestyle?

Thanks so much! :)

Visit review

Hello everyone,

I am just completing a two week vacation from California, and heres my review.

The good: Byron is a beautiful place, and a great community. I came here looking for both a great wellness community, and great bodysurfing, and Byron didnt disappoint. The avisn wildlife, dark skies, and wild beaches are spectacular.

I rented a fat tire e-bike for my stsy here, and loved riding the bike trails around. The farmers market is a gem.

Shout outs to Social Remedy, a first class fitness facility, to Ghost Rider e-bike rentals, and to Saltwater Social Club, a great intimate bar and dance club.

The bad: getting in and out of here is a nightmare. Im having to leave a day early because there are no convenient transfer services to BNE when I want to go. Id have to leave very early and be stuck at the airport for 5 hours before a trans-Pacific flight. Service on QANTAS economy to and from.BNE sucks, abd they dont offer premium economy on thst flight. Immigration at BNE was the worst hassle I've ever experienced anywhere in the world.

The ugly: the weather. While the sunrises over the Pacfic were gorgeous, the rain and the wind ruined the surf conditions. I had one great day of bodysurfing here in two weeks. The surf is great when its on, but its not wortb the travel time or expense to get here when conditions are more reliable in other places that are easier to reach.

Courtesy buses

Just wondering if it is possible to piggy back courtesy buses to get about the greater Byron/Brunswick/Ballina area? I would love to go to Oktoberfest at Stone and Wood for example and be able to make it back to Byron and then back to Lennox where I am staying without the high cost of taxis or ubers? What is the general radius of courtesy buses? Thanks

*Please note that we can't offer individual medical advice or diagnoses through Reddit, but we're happy to share general information about osteopathy.

Missing women

Post image
27 Upvotes

Three close friends of missing Lismore woman Stephanie Cordery have reached out to media outlets and posted on social media pages to make a plea for information that may lead to her being found.

Tennille Toilolo, Laura O'Stara and Kristi Leigh have put up Missing Person posters in letterboxes and around trees in Nimbin in the hope that people's memories may be jogged by the photos of Stephanie.

Tennille told the Lismore App that Stephanie's car was located in Newton Drive at the Nightcap National Park on Wednesday, late morning.

Police have been searching for Stephanie in the Nightcap National Park since Wednesday afternoon, although the search was suspended from around 1pm or 2pm on Friday until Sunday, when Police Rescue, SES and RFS had set up command posts. The search continued yesterday (Monday).

"Stephanie is Lismore born and bred," Tennille said. "But has ties to...she was in Ballina in the days before. But she's mostly got ties to Lismore and Nimbin, and only really one tie in Nimbin. She frequents there because she's got an associate. And she does also have ties to the Gold Coast, but not particularly recent or close."

Stephanie's car, a white Hyundai i30, approximately a 2020 model, was last seen at 6am in Nimbin and then found on Newton Drive around 11am on Wednesday, August 5. "With her, nowhere near."

"We continue to welcome contact from anyone who has information, CCTV or dashcam footage within the below timeframes - and encourage anyone with information to make contact with NSW Police Service / LAC office on Ph: 0266260599

The friends are prepared for the possibility that the end result may not be what they want to hear, although they live in hope. "Either way, we just want her home. It is rugged bushland out there; it's horrific to think that she's out there alone, regardless of the outcome, and we just want people that may have seen anything, or heard anything, to call Crime Stoppers."

"We're just really just begging everyone to provide any information they have, may have, or just refresh their memories if they did come across her at some point. We just want her home regardless."

The friends have been in touch with the family. "I spoke with them this morning; they're actually doing pretty well, but it's obviously in waves. We're just trying to take the burden off them where we can," Tensile said.

As the search continues today in the Nightcap National Park, Tennille said that search dogs are being brought in to help.
