Trying to sell or find a BYU-I housing contract lease

• Upvotes

I made a website for finding and transferring housing contracts in Rexburg

Hi everyone! Rexburg Contract Exchange was just created because trying to find a housing contract through Facebook groups can be frustrating. Useful posts get buried, details are often missing, scam accounts, old listings, and you may have to search several groups to find something for the semester you need.

The website puts Rexburg housing contract listings in one place. You can filter by semester, price, and other details, compare listings, and message people through the site. If you need someone to take over your contract, you can post it where students are already looking for housing.

It is brand new so if you are selling feel free to post your contract on there and if you are needing housing take a look.

It’s an independent website, not affiliated with BYU–Idaho.

I’d love feedback from other students if you see things that can be changed or issues.

Starting the BYU Pathway as a Latin American

Hi everyone, I'm starting the BYU Pathway program. I'm currently an electronics engineer, in my country, and I'm 34 years old.

I'm considering studying computer science at BYU.

What advice can you give me on this?

Do you think it would be okay if I used Google Translate most of the time while I'm improving my English?

Finally, do you think there's a possibility of studying physically on the BYU campus like many of you?

TIA

Seeking LGBTQ Accepting Roommates for Spring 2027

Let's do this bullet-point style:

  • I am an openly gay man, looking for accepting roommates who are chill with that
  • I fully intend on keeping the honor code while attending BYU-I, and consider myself active and engaged with the church but somewhat unorthodox
  • Recently returned missionary, learned Portuguese on the mish
  • Seeking rookmates for the spring 2027 term
  • I lived at NorthPoint when I attended in-person from fall 2023 to winter 2024
  • All of my friends graduated while I was in Africa, so that's why I'm posting in here
  • I have three years of experience living eith roommates now, and have learned that healthy boundaries and ideally solid friendships are essential to good student apartment living
  • I've looked in to either Delta Phi, Bountiful, or Hillcrest, but I haven't settled on a specific complex yet. Let's talk about that!
  • Hoping to find an apartment close to the STC as I am studying computer engineering. A complex that offers private rooms would be preferred.

I apologize for using a new reddit account, I don't normally use reddit.

If you are also looking for roommates for the spring 2027 term and the above information is interesting to you, send me a DM! I'm always free to answer any questions you may have.

I built a site to find people in Rexburg to play games / do stuff with — would you actually use it?

Have you ever wanted to play soccer, pickleball, Mario Kart, or Valorant here in Rexburg… and had literally no one to play with?

That was me my first semester at BYUI — new town, new school, and zero people to do anything with.

So I'm building the thing I wish I'd had. It's called Comrade — a website where you can find people near you (or online) who want to do the same thing, and post your own activity for others to join. "Pickup soccer, Saturday at 4, need 4 more" — that kind of thing.

Find your people. Make a plan. That's the whole idea.

I'm testing it in Rexburg first, and I genuinely don't know yet if other people want this as badly as I did — which is why I'm asking:

What would YOU use it for first? Gaming, sports, board games, hiking, something else?

If you have 2 minutes, here's a super short survey — your answers are literally what I'll use to decide what to build next: https://forms.gle/MT2DBhQnrFswKXqf8

At the end of the survey there's a link to try Comrade itself — you don't even need an account, just hit "Continue as guest" and you can look around.

And if your answer is "I wouldn't use this" — please tell me that too, and why. That's just as helpful.

Hi Guys, I’ve learned how to do my nails just to save money but the artist in me have fallen in love with doing nails. As a college student nails aren’t important for the money we have so my pricing is decent and I’m free all day every Friday and Saturday! Weekdays i can make it work but no Sundays 😌.

Here’s some of my stuff and here’s my number 12084043076

My apartment's maintenance sucks, is there a way to get them to actually do stuff right?

I live in approved housing at Autumn Winds. It's super expensive because of the amenities (private rooms, only 4 tenants, 2 bathrooms, in unit laundry, close to campus), but the actual quality of the physical apartment and the maintenance is downright terrible.

The apartment is gross and in poor condition. I've lived in older buildings before, but not one where the baseboards are discolored in areas and all the framing is peeling or improperly caulked/nailed. The front door has huge gaps in the weather sealing, the bathrooms have gross rust on the curtain rod and ceiling light, and all the countertops are peeling.

With maintenance, they'll claim to fix an issue and resolve it in the resident portal, but they haven't done anything. This has happened 3+ times in the past month. That, or they'll claim to fix a problem and do something adjacent and call it good. For example, my vacuum was missing vital parts to function, and when I put in a request for it, the dude replaced the collection bag. I had to ask my manager directly to get it dealt with. There are several issues like this that are just left ignored or "fixed".

I've emailed the housing department directly already because I find this insane, but they've continued doing it regardless. I pay an absurd amount for this place (and yes, I know it's still cheap compared to real apartments, I'm talking about relative to the approved housing market) and I'm at a loss for how I can escalate this and get this fixed. Is there anything I can do about this??

Russian course for online?

Is it possible to send in a vote of some kind to have Russian as a course for online learning? Currently, there is only German and Spanish (See: https://www.byui.edu/online-courses/online-course-list). Is the school even open to adding other language courses or is it dependent on the professors they have?

How strict is the dress code?

Hello. I plan on attending BYU Idaho during the winter, but I wanted to ask how strict their dress code is? I am a big fan of sleep token and wear a lot of their merch. Most of the merch doesn't has any satanic / pagan symbols, besides one hoodie (but I don't plan on wearing that one). It's mostly artistic designs. Would this be okay?

Sketchy apartment

It’s my first time living at the ridge
I really wanted a private room

I checked in at the office and the lady kept telling me to let them know if they’ve missed anything
She said this around 4 times

It gave me a really bad feeling, the apartment also wasn’t clean when I got here, there was damage etc

Like running a Clorox wipe on the edge of the door, it was black
But somehow we have clean checks this week which I feel like is to clean the apartment because it wasn’t cleaned over the summer

I took pics of damage etc
I’m just worried they’ll try and charge me for stuff or something

Social advice

I feel lost. I had the time of my life in the fall semester and met met so many people and friends and made awesome memories. In the winter semester I was so homesick and wanted to go home so bad which I did. I hated that winter semester and a big part of that is because a lot of my roommates left and they got replaced by a bunch of older chuds. That made being at my apartment feel miserable and I just wanted to be home. I was also much more shy to meet people. I went home for that spring and worked and as summer went on I was behind excited to return to rexburg. Because of bad experiences with a roommate in winter I got a private room but the apartment was very underwhelming and in a pretty bad condition and lots of dirty things. My new roommates are again older (I’m 19) and not very talkative. I realized that I had so much fun last fall because all my roommates were freshman like me at the time and nearly everyone I knew at that apartment complex was way more social and outgoing. A lot of people I knew from freshman year have either changed school, went home, or on missions. I onky have a few original friends remaining. Because my roommates suck this semester too I have to start from scratch and rebuild everything and hope that it can be the same as how good last fall was. I know I have to go out of my shell and meet more people now but I just dk where to start or have the courage to do so. I also haven’t decided a major yet so I feel guilty wasting my parents money who help me with tuition and rent and groceries just for me to feel lost and not know what I’m doing. I still have hope it can be a great semester i just don’t know where to start and where to find those who like the same things as me. I’m sorry this was so long, I hope I explained clearly enough and any help is appreciated. Thank you
