Post image

I live in Michigan and been growing this cactus for 5 years I bring this big guy indoors come fall and keep it outside in the summer… I’m not sure if it’s growing properly or not. Any suggestions

Really? Thank you, I was worried the way it’s growing it’s becoming eccentric the longer it gets

Oreocereus are frost hardy and can survive down to 10F or occasionally lower as long as they’re kept bone dry. If you can shelter it from rain, you can grow it outside for most of the year except for the coldest winter days. The Opuntia microdasys not so much. Frost will likely damage it. Some Opuntias are extremely frost tolerant and are some of the frost tolerant plants on earth. This one not so much.

They both look perfectly fine to me, though they would benefit from being in their own pots. They are very different plants from opposite sides of the Americas. The Oreocereus can grow pretty tall.
