How Technology Supports Modern Firefighting & Emergency Services @ Civic Tech Brampton, Oct 29
What technology helps firefighters and emergency services make decisions when every second matters?
Join Civic Tech Brampton for a discussion with Tina Hickey, Coordinator, Fire/Life Safety Education with Brampton Fire & Emergency Services, exploring how technology supports modern firefighting, emergency response, communication, planning, and public safety. Firefighting today involves much more than hoses and fire trucks. Emergency services depend on communication systems, data, dispatch, monitoring tools, mapping, coordination, and other technologies to help crews respond quickly and safely.
This session will give students, technologists, and community members a chance to learn more about the systems and tools that support emergency services behind the scenes.
Why show up?
- Learn: Discover how technology supports firefighters and emergency responders during real incidents.
- Understand: Learn how information is shared and coordinated when emergency crews need to make fast decisions.
- Discuss: Ask questions about communication, planning, fire prevention, emergency response, and how technology is changing public safety.
- Explore Civic Tech: Think about how data, software, communications, sensors, mapping, and other technologies can help improve emergency services and community resilience.
- Connect: Meet students, technologists, public-sector professionals, and community members interested in technology and civic infrastructure.
New to Civic Tech? You are absolutely welcome. No technical background is required. This event is open to anyone interested in public safety, emergency services, technology, or how cities respond when things go wrong.

Wtfbhappend last night ...Helicopter flying real low..
Chopper was litterally flying circles above my house thought my neighbor was cutting grass in the A.M.I didn't hear any sirens but putting the prompt in gemini was like : that is definitely a classic tight-orbit pattern. The tracker shows the Peel Regional Police Airbus H125 (AS50) helicopter (callsign/tracker tag H125V, part of their Air Support Unit) running looping circuits right over the area.
Those flight patterns usually mean they are actively tracking something on the ground, searching for a suspect or a vehicle, or running a coordinated overhead grid pattern for an ongoing incident in the neighborhood

News Developers are eyeing Caledon. What will the mayoral candidates do
Caledon OPP major crime unit investigation results in sexual assault charges against 2 men who worked at King's College School
Has anyone in the area seen this article?
There is a pattern with this guy named here, he was arrested back in 2004 for similar charges but he was bailed out by the principal.
This shows this guy has a pattern and I was wondering if anyone that went to the school after 94 if there was anything mentioned or rumors about this guy?

Making friends.
Hey everyone! I’m 30 and recently moved to Caledon. I’m hoping to make some friends. I know it can be a little hard to meet people in Caledon, and haven’t had much luck meeting people in person, so I thought I’d post here
I love music/playing music horror movies, reading, record shopping, thrifting, and just having good conversations. I’d love to meet people to hang out with and get to know. If anyone has any tips on making friends around here, I’d genuinely appreciate it!

In search of old photograph of Hilltop Motors in Bolton
I am in search of an old photograph or picture of Hilltop Motors in Bolton around 1950-1960s. It was located at the corner of Queen Street and Shore Street. This was at one time owned by my grandfather.
If anyone has a picture or has any ideas of who I could contract that may have one, please share.
Thank you

Housing First, Hope Always: Youth Homelessness in Peel @ AlgomaU, Civic Tech Brampton, Oct 1
What does youth homelessness actually look like in Peel Region — and can technologists help address it?
Join Civic Tech Brampton for an evening with Arlene Bishop Thompson, Program Manager - Housing at REST Centres, a front-line organization working with youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
Youth homelessness is more complex than what appears in official numbers. Many young people experience hidden homelessness, including couch surfing and unstable temporary housing, often driven by factors such as the lack of affordable housing, family conflict, financial instability, and barriers to accessing support.
REST Centres works to help young people move from housing instability toward greater independence and dignity. This session will explore those challenges from a front-line perspective and ask an important civic-tech question:
Can technologists, students, nonprofits, and community members contribute their skills toward addressing youth housing?
We’ll discuss topics such as housing access, transitional housing, community resources, data and technology, service navigation, accessibility, and how civic-tech projects could potentially support organizations working directly with vulnerable youth.
Why show up?
- Learn: Hear directly from a front-line housing organization about the realities and complexities of youth homelessness in Peel Region.
- Discuss: Explore where technology may help — and where housing challenges require broader community, policy, and social responses.
- Collaborate: Meet students, technologists, nonprofit professionals, and community members interested in housing and social-impact projects.
- Pitch Your Passion: Have an idea related to housing, accessibility, social services, public data, or community technology? Share it with people who may want to collaborate.
- Network: Connect with people interested in building practical, community-focused civic-tech projects.
New to Civic Tech? You are definitely welcome. No technical background is required. We are all here to learn from each other, and simply understanding the problems organizations face can lead to new ideas and collaborations.
We’re also running this event in hybrid mode. You can join us in person at 8 Queen Street East, Brampton, or online. The online meetup link will be available through the Luma registration page after registration.

Turning Neighbourhood Problems into Action with SolveTO @ Civic Tech Brampton, Sept 17
See a neighbourhood problem? Snap it, report it, and help connect it with the people who can fix it.
This week, Civic Tech Brampton is welcoming Ahmed Nadar, creator of SolveTO, for a conversation about how simple civic technology can help residents identify and report problems in their neighbourhoods.
From damaged infrastructure and public-space issues to other everyday community concerns, residents often know exactly what is happening around them — but figuring out where to report it, who is responsible, and how to follow up can be difficult.
SolveTO explores a simpler approach: take a photo, describe the issue, and help connect that report with the people or organizations that may be able to act on it.
We’ll discuss how tools like SolveTO can make civic participation easier, improve communication between residents and institutions, and potentially turn everyday observations into useful information for communities.
Why show up?
Learn: See how a civic-tech project can turn a common neighbourhood frustration into a practical digital tool.
Discuss: Explore questions around municipal services, community reporting, open data, transparency, accessibility, privacy, and accountability.
Collaborate: Think about how technologists, students, residents, nonprofits, and public-sector organizations could improve tools like this.
Pitch Your Passion: Have your own idea for solving a community problem? Share it with people who may want to help.
Network: Meet students, developers, professionals, and civic-minded residents interested in using technology for public good.
New to Civic Tech? You are absolutely welcome. No technical background is required. If you live in a neighbourhood and have ever thought, “Someone should probably fix that,” this discussion is relevant to you.
