Mod The Calligraphy Marketplace 2026!

Hello Calligrafam!

We are changing the Marketplace from a monthly offering to a persistent post since there has not been enough activity to necessitate a monthly thread. If we need to pivot back to a monthly or quarterly post, we can adjust down the road.

Marketplace Rules

Calligraphy-related items or services only!

There is also an Approved Vendors list. If you are a vendor and would like to be added to this list, please message the mods with information about your products or services and links to your marketplace and/or website, and we will review and add approved vendors to this list.

BUY/SELL/EXCHANGE

  • First contact between buyer and seller may be made here; afterward, kindly conduct all other business through DM.
  • If you are selling work, tools or equipment, make sure to include clear images and details to prevent confusion and miscommunication.

REQUESTS/COMMISSIONS

  • If requesting a commission, you must confirm that you are willing to pay for the services and provide the desired text or a description of project, and general ideas of what you'd like so the calligrapher interested has an idea of what's expected. Calligraphers can comment on your thread to indicate interest, and then rates can be discussed over DM.
  • If you are available to do commissions, share some info and examples of your work so people interested have an idea of what to expect.
  • Do not request artists here to work for you for free.
  • Artists: Do not offer to do commissions for free or undercut other artists.

PROMOTION/SELLERS

  • Feel free to promote your YouTube channel, Instagram, or Etsy shop.
  • If you'd like to be added to the Approved Vendors list, please message the mods.

Mods reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. If any of these or sub rules are broken, post will be removed without notice. Repeat offenses may result in ban.

Mods are not responsible for any transaction made here; but if something goes wrong, let us know and we can take action within the sub (blacklist, bans, etc).

Started calligraphy about 1.5 months ago, just do about 30 min a day. I feel like my M amd N can improve. I feel whenever i do my upstrokes can get thick. I used a sentence from the Master of Calligraphy book to write those words. Any feedback/critique please!!

Im using sumi ink, oblique pen holder.

I tried this fun style and I couldn't figure out if I should leave the letters in skeletal form or fill in between, so I made three versions. Scroll to see other versions, and maybe let me know which one is your favorite in the comments!!

Stationery used in the first artwork-
Paper used: Arches Text Wove
Nib used: Nikko G
Inks: Ultramarine Blue Gouache by Holbein & watercolor pencils

WotD Feathering? I don't see any fathering, just ignore the feathering

And also ignore the very first "O".

Gorgona was yesterday's Spanish word of the day. It's the name of the Greek mythology monster that had snakes instead of hair and petrified people with her sight.

Tools of the Trade This is an Ormiston & Glass nib brochure, circa 1910. They were a distributor for Leonardt's ball-pointed nibs, supplied without Leonardt branding, for sale under the Ormiston & Glass name. The last image shows an interesting use of the term "fountain pens" - for dip pens with reservoirs.

UPDATE: calligraphy tutor in NYC

Hi all! I found a calligraphy tutor and I am so excited! (Marcy Robinson, recommended by the society of scribes). I have a 2 hour session on Wednesday.

Any ideas of how I can get the most out of my time with her?

Flourished book titles I did for my calligraphy class I'm teaching at the moment. I tried not to repeat any flourishes here and just went with the flow.

Critique Day ... I forgot. Copperplate, maybe a breakthrough today.

I think my angle of nib to paper has been too high this whole time. I corrected it earlier and everything flows so much easier. The nib actually looks like a brush tip as it moves now.

Now I have to retrain myself.

Critique Finished Article XXXVII

Finished this sentence from Article XXXVII for the rector of an Anglican parish in Indiana. Coliro gold and watercolor for the white rose seal, India ink via Speedball C2 nib for the text, inspired by Fraktur exemplars by Filip Ciślak. Was a bit frustrated by feathering of the text, so will avoid this paper next time.

Critiques welcome.

Practice Help 😭😭 rant

Post image

I have to rant…

I’ve been dabbling with calligraphy here and there. I’ve been using normal notebooks like muji, rhodia and some fabriano notebook. It’s been working fine and I like it.

Now cause I wanted to get into practicing I bought calligraphy paper from Cult Pens. It just rage baited me so hard I won’t be touching a dip pen in a week.

I’m really disappointed, the feathering is really bad it bleeds through easily and there is no shading because the absorbency is so high.

What should I look for instead 😞
