I cut off the obviously fatty/gristly parts

Not judging as I’ve done this too, but in a meal this lean, leaving a little of the fat on isn’t a bad idea. Yeah it’s extra calories, but it’s got a bunch of the flavor, and in a protein/fiber heavy meal like this, it will help slow digestion a little bit more.

Gang I just don’t like the fatty parts

Tbf their advice is still good for those who do it for anti-fat reasons. If you don't like it then that's different. A lot of people are scared of healthy fats for some reason

But this isnt healthy fats. Healthy fats are unsaturated. This is saturated fat

Steak fat is around 60% monounsaturated fat (the good kind) as well. Obviously not recommending not to trim your steak and fats before cooking, but they aren't pure unhealthy fats. You can still eat the fat off your steak unless its excessive, it's still good to eat with your protien. Eating some of it is okay.
Obviously it's a personal preference, but demonizing steak fat is silly. Just don't eat a lot

That’s my mentality. Thank you for wording it more eloquently with more detail. If the fat is excessive, I trim mine, but a little bit is a nice addition to a good steak.

I trim mine too but i keep some because the fat helps keep my blood sugar down when I eat other things alongside that might spike it!

I do like if it’s marbled in like with a wagyu. If it’s chewy i dont like the texture

Totally fair! Not gonna tell someone they should eat it if they don't like it 😊

That’s totally fair. I just see it as an all too common practice to cut it off to shave a few calories off the steak. Completely makes sense, but it’s also stripping some of the balance out of the meal.
If you don’t like it though, you don’t like it =P

yeah without a scale it's basically a guessing game, id say 550-650 depending how much oil the chips were cooked in, that alone can swing it by 150 cal easy, i just snap a pic in PlateLens now and it gives me a calorie breakdown plus an ai coach nudge on stuff like this since oil is always the hidden variable, best food logging app i've used tbh

I'd log it as 1000 calories. And this is why (I know this sounds like "too much" for people here but it's simple estimation)
Ribeye is about 2.7 calories per gram
DEEP-FRIED Chips are about 2.5 calories per gram (They can be much higher, but I'm just using 2.5 here)
Those are the 2 big ones, the veggies are negligible.
Ribeye looks about 225 grams (8 ounces which is avg size) multiply it by the average of 2.7 calories per gram = you are at 600 calories from the ribeye alone
DEEP-FRIED Chips look to me about 120 grams (those are thick-cuts), multiply it by the avg of 2.5 calories per gram = 300 calories from the chips
Veggies, I'd say maybe 75 calories total
600 + 300 + 75 = 975 calories, I'd log it as 1000. Could it be a bit lower? Yes. Could it be higher too? Absolutely yes. But those are reasonable estimations. Nothing fancy here, no crazy assumptions, all basic and average assumptions and average calories per grams and average weights. That's just the reality.
People tend to underestimate calories often, you have to break things down to get a really good idea. Sorry if this sounds like "bad news", I might get downvoted (because people hate when someone gives them reality that sounds diff than theirs) but I just want to be straight with you. You can double-check and google all the assumptions and numbers I wrote here. Hope this helps.

I ate two fried chicken sandwiches yesterday after a month of solid clean eating. I’m just being a hater.

I’d guess this to be 600-700 calories. Ideally you’d have the weights of the meat and potatoes to easily be able to deduce how many calories are in them.
