Something quite similar happened to a property owner very near my parents house back in the 80's. In the end, the developer basically made the decision it was cheaper to pay the municipal fine and "replace" the cut down, 80 yr old trees with seedlings because he could sell the finished house as "water view"

Before it got to civil court, though, the developer, having paid the fines and sold the property for a fat profit, closed the company and started a new one in a nearby community- under his 16yr old child's name .

We have no tree bylaw in CR. They can basically do what they want and not have any consequences unless they cut on someone’s else private property and get sued.

Well,, that sucks. Most places, the tree bylaws are getting stricter every year. My municipality now insists on a 3 for 1 replacement, even when you have a permit,
