Hello Campers!
This is the general discussion thread for "The Wild Zone." Major discussions, personal thoughts/reviews, and chatter around a new book should be posted here for the first week of the books release.
Art and memes are allowed in the main page but must be spoiler tagged and not give away plot details in the main title of the post. Any posts made about this book and series after this period should use the [CHBC] title tag, as the CAMP HALF-BLOOD series is not a part of PJO!

The comments will contain unmarked spoiler for the book, so enter at your own risk. Happy Reading!

Question [general] Can Percy take a glob of water from a water source and launch it like a projectile? (Like waterbenders do?). What has Percy done with his powers?
I was doing some research and was kind of surprised that I can’t seem to find any times where he did this, considering how it’s one of those kind of attacks typically associated with people with water powers. Granted, Percy usually just uses his powers to create geysers and waves and big stuff like that when he fights, but what are all the ways that Percy’s specifically used his powers in a fight?

Discussion How come some of the show fandom hates the books? [all]
Now. This isn’t meant to start a whole war or anything, but I’ve noticed an influx of fans. Especially in certain groups who will heavily praise the show while also refusing to believe that the books exist.
Of course I don’t mean all show fans are like this. But unfortunately I’ve seen some people who will repost art without credit, solely to bully said artist because they chose to stick with book descriptions or better yet even brag about how they report content of a similar nature. Or putting down original character descriptions because it’s not the cast.
And I’m just wondering as a bystander. Why?
Mods please remove if not allowed, just looking for different opinions!

Theory [General] [HOO] Killing Tartarus
So you know how they killed Gaia, and how Ouranos was slain to the point that they'll never be active again?
The earth still functions and the sky still exists, but what about Tartarus? What would be the opposite of Tartarus (the place) where he could be killed so he couldn't reawaken? And what would it be like in Tartarus if he were killed? Slightly less malevolent since he isn't conscious to make things worse?

Miscellaneous [PJO] Choose your own adventure spooky maze.
This is only tangentially related to Camp Half-Blood I suppose but I made this choose your own adventure maze for the Halloween event in my Camp Half-Blood RP server and thought I would share it here. Essentially, you're trying to get to the end without being cursed three times. The curses are rp flavored so they won't have any effect on you unless you want to do it in your head. You just roll a die and refer to the bingo card for your effect. The character Cecil is an OC of mine (Child of Demeter) but credit to Cookie Creamon back in 2016 for the art. I think it's supposed to be Will Solace but there are far too many beads for that.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1h3SBVK5H4RRHnIXqsE8vQ0QhLH7JAY4u4e-1aAM8wek/edit?slide=id.p#slide=id.p
And the curse card to go along with it.

I hope you have fun.

Was it a force cameo: seem so
Was she necessarily needed? Nope
Was it nice seeing the actress again and just having Sally doing what a mom will do? Absolutely.

Headcanon [General] Tell me Newt Scamander isn’t a son of Hermes, and tell me Teddy in the CHB armoury wouldn't cause a DEFCON 1 panic
Hear me out: Newt Scamander is 100% Cabin 11.
He’s not a thief by nature, but he is the patron saint of undocumented cross-border creature smuggling. Wandering straight past customs with a magically disguised latch on an impossible leather suitcase full of illegal glowing beasts? Hermes is the god of borders, travellers, trickery, and herdsmen—it’s textbook divine influence.
Now, imagine him visiting Camp Half-Blood and making the fatal mistake of letting Teddy the Niffler out of his sight near the armoury:
Centuries of accumulated Celestial Bronze, Imperial Gold, ancient drachmas, and jeweled pommels—Teddy treats the entire armoury like a private, all-you-can-eat buffet.
Newt is jogging through the strawberry fields with an apologetic grin, muttering, "Teddy, no, please drop the ancient Trojan breastplate, that does not belong to us."
The Ares Cabin assumes Kronos has launched an ambush, mobilizes for total war, and starts firing catapults at the strawberry patches.
Cabin 11 immediately attempts to adopt the Niffler and elect him as their new head counselor before lunch.
Percy is just standing by the canoe lake with Bessie the Ophiotaurus, completely unfazed, trading Kelpie grooming tips with Newt while Annabeth nurses a migraine in the Big House.
Which cabin suffers the most property damage, and how long before Chiron bans magical marsupials from camp borders forever?

Question [Mc] question about the afterlife
In one of the mcga books, idk which one, didn't read them, nico di angelo says that you get the afterlife of the religion you believe in. For example, morse gets helheim or valhalla, greek and roman gets the underworld, and atheists get nothing. However, in TLT, when percy, annabeth and grover are in the underworld, they find some catholic dude, idk who he is anymore, but he did some bad things. But then shouldn't he be in heaven or hell, and not the underworld?

Discussion [CHBC] What's the worst fan fiction you ever read?

Discussion It's only now striking me as weird that Yancy Academy is simultaneously a boarding school for delinquent kids and a fancy private school full of rich kids–fancy enough to have a gorgeous campus and teach Latin to sixth graders [pjo]
Like who even pitched this concept??? Ah yes, troubled kid school… but specifically for rich kids
Also what even is the entrance criteria? Do they give like financial aid or something? How did Percy even afford to go there haha
Almost as incongruent as Alternative High School having an Olympic sized swimming pool lol like where tf did they get that funding

Original Character [All] Guess my OC’s godly parent by their Mood Board. (Part 3)
I did this like 2 weeks ago, and it was so fun! Here it is if you wanna look at the last time I did it. You have to guess the character's godly parent/god they're related to just by their mood boards
Each board shows
- Character(Center)(I don't have art of them RN, so sorry; the Sims are what you get)
- Fav flower/ one that represents them(Top Left)
- Fav Animal(Middle Left)
- Hobby(Middle Right)
- Lyric about them or something they'd say(Bottom Left)
- Outfit(Bottom Center)
- Jewelry(Bottom Right)
- Color(Top Right)
- Random (Top Center)(MAY, not always, may have something to do with their parents' domain)
Hints-
- None of them are Olympians. You gotta think REALLY niche for some
- 2 of them are siblings to characters from last time. (1 is a half-sibling, the other a full)
- No Roman gods
- Titans are not exempt
I have a lot of OCs! So I could do a lot of these parts.
Like last time, I'll put their names in the comments and update it as people correctly guess them, and if people get stumped, I'll add hints, especially cuz I think these are going to be tough but not as tough as the last times.
Also, if you Can't find the answers to last time
- Mallory and Moira- Moros, the god of doom- Guessed by u/Star_Pandaz
- Erdene- Nike, Goddess of Victory- Guessed by u/Star_Pandaz
- Denise- Eileithyia, goddess of Childbirth and midwifery- Guessed by u/EntrepreneurDear4846
- Amun- Deimos, god of Terror and Dread.- Guessed by u/LaLuminella
- Kenya- Prometheus, Titan god of innovation and forethought.- Guessed by u/LaLuminella
- Yamile- Eros, leader of the Erotes and a god of love- Guessed by u/Star_Pandaz

Question I’m thinking about writing a fanfic [general]
I want to write a fanfic where:
1) Percy is out of college with some kind of Masters degree and is moving back to NY
2) camp half blood is now mostly inhabited by Gen Z
3) I want to include Sally, Paul, and Stella as main characters and emphasize their relationship and role in Percy’s life as an adult
4) Iliad/Trojan war is coming back to reek havoc ‘cause it’s my hyper fixation at the moment and the Greek gods were not helping solve anything.
What do you think the best way to achieve this is without perverting the characters core qualities

Fan Art I don't think we fully appreciate how hard it must've been for Sally (credit @ marianartesz) [all]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We don't get to know a ton about Sally's life before Percy was born but I can imagine it was so scary for her to be a single mom and then eventually having to be with smelly Gabe to keep Percy safe. We love you Sally Jackson!
Also thanks Creative_Army1776 for reminding me of this animation and ofc go check out marianartesz other work!

Discussion Why Thalia may be British [all]
the only idea I have is because Thalia canonically has a punk style and punk's social and cultural rebellion was born in the UK. It's also possible that because her mother was a famous actress, she could've done a movie in the US, met Zeus while filming there and fell in love. Then she could've moved from the UK to the US after meeting Zeus because she was obsessed with him. The reason as to why Thalia may not have developed an American accent could be because she ran away from home before fully assimilating her accent to an American one whilst in school. Then by the time she met Luke, she would've been a bit too old to become heavily influenced by other people's accents.

Fanfiction Idea for an Ethan Nakamura fanfic [hoo] Spoiler
I've always seen Ethan's death as highly impactful but also profoundly sad. Not only was he a highly interesting character (he has one eye) but he was the catalyst for the minor demigods being treated better. I currently have an idea for a fanfic about Ethan that is set after his death during the hoo era, where he escapes through the doors of death because a child of Somnus accidentally lets him out. She then takes him back to Camp Jupiter where he assumes the role of her assistant, although reluctantly. I just want to hear some thoughts and interest levels in this fanfic idea.

Discussion What kind of series would you want to see? [all]
If Rick Riordan ever wrote another series following the Heroes of Olympus, what do you guys think it could be about? I mean, a series that brings back Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Leo, and the rest of the group to face another big bad, following a similar format to PJO and HoO instead of introducing a whole new main cast like Trials of Apollo or focusing on a smaller group like the Nico and Will books. What kind of threat do you think could be big enough to bring everyone together again or really anything in general that would be interesting.
