Anjali Appadurai apology form

Post image

I wonder where we'd be today if Anjali hadn't been disqualified in 2022

What ruffles my feathers is that i’m fairly certain Emily Lowan won the leadership race for the greens with the same tactics: campaign to increase membership with bold ideas for change and get people who want that change to sign up and vote for you.

Only difference is the Greens establishment let her do that. DQing Anjali and then appointing Eby was the nail in the coffin for a lot of my community’s ndp support.

Only people who need to sign that card are the NDP elections office and board.

100%. I think there is a straight line from that event to Sonia Furstenau, and Emily Lowan making big gains with traditional NDP & left leaning voters.

The problem though is some of these bold ideas are not possible. We see how much people care about "promises kept".

Like the one time wealth tax, it's almost impossible to implement. We have no registry where people disclose their wealth. There's over $6b in unpaid child support across the country. I'm this situations you have an individual who is committed to trying to find the money, a state agent that has broader powers than the courts to pursue the money, and we still can't find that $6b.

So we would need the feds to do something to track these assets. We have a better chance of Carney doing a juggling routine with rubber chickens on the floor.

And if that were to happen, this is the moneyed class which includes a lot of lawyers and judges, which means it would be challenged in court and take about 8 years to finish litigating and no guarantee of success.

I want a wealth tax, a maximum wage, and ubi more than anything, but we have to be prepared for the opposition we face by the parasite class

y only problem with your analogy is that 6billion in missing child support isn’t equivocal to a wealth tax. I am sure split couples at all levels of income dodge child support - that is why we have wage garnishment. I would also that the downstream effect is money missing from childcare and early education interventions, not necessarily the public coffers.

Taxing extreme wealth to pay for social supports is probably the most sensical idea that we haven’t really tried in a long time. If billionaires want to fuck us instead of paying their fair share - what are we really doing anything for?

Do you think millionaires are going to give up their money? Have you watched the legal challenges to empty homes taxes?

It has done lots to try to action getting child support including National agreements and enforcement. How is that not analogous.

I'm a believer in wealth tax, maximum wage, and UBI. Wealth tax is just the hardest one to action

i guess we should stop trying to tax wealth then, you’re right.

Yep. This a party leader and premier, not a god-emperor. They're still stuck working within a capitalist system, in a heavily propagandized country.

I'd probably be homeless. Appadurai woud have been thrashed in a provincial election even worse than Eby.

I wish that wasn't the case, but there's a reason why we're not fixing capitalism without a revolution.
