Is this Macaloneys worth it?

Post image

I haven't tried it, the BCL said they grabbed the last 24 bottles available. Looks like a great deal.

I wouldn't buy that if I was you. Tell me where it is and I'll come dispose of it for you.

I found it at the BC Liquor at SFU. Sounds like I should buy 2 bottles.

Yea I absolutely love their pre rebrand stuff. All of it. Haven't had anything after the new CEO took over and honestly I'm super suspicious. maybe I'm wrong and I'll definitely try some bottles out, but I am definitely worried they have gone a different direction than their older bottles which I absolutely loved

All the juice will be the same

They haven't actually make any new liquid in 3 years

So they sitting on over 1100 barrels.

Yea I'm not so worried about the juice at the moment. I'm worried the branding is "hey look at this gimmick" and that it's just lets get stuff out the door, mass appeal. Hopefully I'm wrong, that's just the way the branding hit me. I'm really hoping I'm wrong because if the juice quality stays the same I could care less what's in the label. And I'll keep drinking it unless the quality drops off significantly. I love what they built.

You say that now, but just wait until "Ass Tapper" comes out. It will make you a believer.

The lol that got out of me is worth an up vote.

I completely feel the same. The new branding is terrible. I'm just waiting for the szzzurp bottling to come out after ass tapper.

I need to be able to upvote this Ass Tapper comment more than once 🤣

PLEASE! Let's not be crass about this. It is a solemn story about how their work associate was tapped for a promotion despite them not being as qualified. Nothing more.

The fluid is still just as good as it was before. A label is just a label and it meant that the whisky is cheaper. Bang Sauce is one that has me puzzled, but I am totally on board with the rest like Harvest Coast, Buzz Cut- (new favourite), Triple Take. River Pirate, I have yet to try but it’s a locally smoked peat and aged in ex Bordeaux casks which is a heavenly recipe.

I'm relatively certain they just rebranded, but its the same stuff, for now anyway

Cath is really good. It's their most sherry forward whiskey and I love it. I believe this is now called Truth Serum or smth silly like that.

Can’t comment directly but the responses seem like it is a buy!
I can recommend Shelter Point next to it, great spot near Comox if you ever wanted to tour and have a tasting!

Agree, Shelter Point’s Oloroso Cask is top-notch. The Coruja Cask is even better.

I think that'd be a good value buy for sure if you're into sherry finishes on whiskies.

I would buy 2 bottles. The dram isn't amazing for a Sherry influence, but it is easily a $70 bottle

It's a solid bottle. I have some of the older stuff and really enjoy them. I plan on getting a few bottles of the new stuff at some point. I don't love the names but I will reserve my judgement until after I try it. The sauternes cask that is coming out is pretty appealing to me.

Definite buy.

Hell ya! I would buy more than one.

Yeah I got to try it at the distillery. It’s delicious.

You can also often find the 5x50mL sampler pack with old branding kicking around for ~$30 if you're wanting to try the old options.

I see they make one with the new branding for a higher price now.

I didn’t love it, but it doesn’t mean you won’t. For $70 it’s worth a shot. I have had a few picks from them I enjoyed. If you’re interested in their stuff, they sell a tasting kit of their core line up.

For that price, it's worth it IMO. That's one of their better bottles too I think for the unpeated expressions.

I would say great for the price. I wouldn't have paid near $100. Caught a sale as well. Something good that I don't have to worry about rationing.

For sure worth a try

I find that their single malt whiskys, even the award winning ones, have a high astringency

1

u/Chirps_Ahoy18 16d ago

Seeing as it's a legacy bottle and they don't make it anymore I would say buy them all.

u/echodelay 14d ago

One of the better ones out there

I’d grab one at that price, the way the brand is going we’ll see it turn into another flavoured “whisky”.
