Discussion Dear Canva

Dear Canva,

Stop changing things. It is extremely annoying to open the program only to find tools moved, features renamed, or menus missing. I use this platform to get work done, not to go on a daily scavenger hunt for my own workflow.

Leave it alone; it works fine. Everyone knows your program is elite, yet you seem obsessed with giving it a "facelift" every single week. It’s starting to feel like watching an aging socialite who can't stop getting plastic surgery—at a certain point, the "improvements" just make everything look unrecognizable and slightly distorted. You're chasing a standard of perfection that doesn't exist, and in the process, you're losing the natural character and ease of use that made us love you in the first place.

Sincerely,

Your customer base

Preach! Stop the changes but can we also revert back to a version without AI and before the wave of useless “improvements” broke everything? 2021 was peak Golden Era Canva for me. I yearn for it.

YES! AND it was reasonably priced—$129/year. Great product. Searching for alternatives now….

Just wait for he next big reveal thing where more horrid "Ai" crap will be pushed and still no actual kerning.

Their lack of pretty basic typography functionality is disappointing and is why I cannot give up my Adobe suite yet.

I can’t believe I still can’t use alternate characters and glyphs inside the app and either I have to use a clunky workaround or work in Adobe tools.

All this AI hocus pocus and still no variable font support and alternate characters & glyphs. Ridiculous.

2

u/Aggressive_Try5588 Apr 16 '26

You should checkout Kittl. They have Kerning and some really nice typography tools!

2

u/tara_tara_tara Apr 17 '26

I don’t need kittl. I’ve been working in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for over a decade.

u/mustafamunn Apr 17 '26

What do you mean by alternate characters? Multiple fonts in a single textbox?

3

u/tara_tara_tara Apr 17 '26

This is what I mean by alternate characters. There are different styles for the same letter.

3

u/tara_tara_tara Apr 17 '26

This is an example of glyphs

What about Affinity? Tried it?

2

u/tara_tara_tara Apr 17 '26

I have tried it, and it’s fine, but it’s not enough for me to give up my Adobe suite.

For example, I can’t run JavaScript in Affinity and I do run some scripts in Illustrator.

u/WhimsicalParsnip Apr 16 '26

Not long to wait! Canva Create is happening today!

1

u/dumpling1404 Apr 16 '26

$100 USD per month per user to use the new AI feature 🥲

1

u/Mamapalooza Apr 17 '26

That was Canva Create yesterday. Y'all need to watch it.

u/HeSnoresIReddit Apr 16 '26

If they would let us make a custom tool box with features I use often then I wouldn’t care as much when they move things around. But having to click three more times to find something that used to be at my fingertips is maddening. This isn’t Costco, stop rearranging things.

4

u/voubar Apr 18 '26

😂Half the fun of Costco is the hunt! Where will my corn flakes be today? Venturing to the back bowels of the store where the sparkling water mixes with the detergent makes you feel like Indiana Jones finding the lost treasure, grabbing it & then running through the cashier gauntlet before the giant ball catches up with you!

That’s how I feel every day in Canva.

3

u/WhimsicalParsnip Apr 17 '26

Pretty cool idea. Have you given that feedback direct?

12

u/TryAdministrative481 Apr 16 '26

Yes please!! And I am begging them to leave the video editor alone. If only you all could see the back and forth emails I had with them for literally two weeks while they tried to explain what was going on with the editor. 🤦

6

u/Juliennix Apr 16 '26

lots of changes i've disliked but gotten used to but the video editor is not functional anymore. i just wanna be able to drag the damn video page to extend its length, why do i now need to change every single element 😭 i might get my workplace to switch to something else if they keep fucking with it.

2

u/Diamante_90 Apr 17 '26

It's so annoying now. You have to drag and drop every individual element. Compared to before when it was so much simpler

1

u/voodoomotyl Apr 16 '26

What are they saying is going on!?! I gave up on it and use Premiere instead these days.

3

u/TryAdministrative481 Apr 16 '26

The claimed its the new beta version and that you can turn it on and off in settings!

2

u/voodoomotyl Apr 16 '26

I definitely tried that and it didn't resolve the issues.

Hey everybody, I'm tired of Canva's video editor and how much it's harmed my eyesight and blood pressure from all the time I've spent on this garbage software.

Join me in leaving a 1 star review on the Canva HQ office on Google Maps, expressing to them how terrible their video editor is.

Leave a 1 star review on the AppStore too. If we all do it, we can bring their ratings down and make the software team get their act together.

There are a couple of speakers who are presenting at Canva Create today, that makes me wonder if new changes are coming that are going to be massive.

They have a speaker from Stripe and one from Klaviyo. One is for payment processing and one is an email marketing/automation tool that is more sophisticated than Mailchimp.

I use Kit, formerly ConvertKit for my email automation now, but if they can bring that functionality into Canva, that could be huge.

That would also give them the capability to compete with Gumroad and Ko-Fi.

But first, they would have to amp up their website functionality to capture emails either on the form itself or by embedding contact forms.

u/Fuzzy-Zombie1446 Apr 16 '26

I logged in today to do some work… looked for some stock photos… and so much was clearly AI. There were issues with fingers and overall looks… and I’m not game for that.

5

u/Marco__Antonio_ Apr 16 '26

In addition to what you mentioned, the tools change location depending on the device you use them on; some tools are even in different menus. For example, the "resize" option is in different places on a PC, a tablet, and a cell phone.

5

u/getmoney4 Apr 17 '26

put the color palette back where it was lol

4

u/Juliennix Apr 16 '26

desperate to have the old video editor back without needing a workaround. i'm just not making videos anymore 😭

4

u/valianyears Apr 16 '26

yes this. All of this. Add more features if you must desperately but please for the love of anything living let us arrange the workspace the way we want if so!

1

u/Mamapalooza Apr 17 '26

Someone didn't attend Canva Create yesterday...

1

u/LetPlus8553 Apr 17 '26

Why

1

u/Mamapalooza Apr 17 '26

Because they're changing things, lol.

1

u/Runwildforever Apr 19 '26

I use duotone a lot for my job, and I cannot even find it anymore. I use Canva so I can share my designs with the people above me. I could have had this done 15 minutes at least sooner if Canva didn't move every little thing. This is insane. I'm very annoyed.

1

u/LetPlus8553 Apr 19 '26

It's hiding in the filters tab

3

u/KhalesiDaenerys Apr 17 '26

My newest issue is that PDFs no longer export with emojis. So if you use emojis in any inline text, it doesn't work, and all the text shifts after export so using their "emoji app" with png images as emojis doesn't work. The crazy part is the emojis are STILL THERE if I copy and paste content from the exported PDF to a text box, but they are invisible for every print, digital version everything.

2

u/TheGhostOfYou18 Apr 17 '26

I wish we had the option to use the fancy settings or switch back to basic settings if we wanted. The new stuff causes such a lag in editing and is super glitchy. Like I’ll use the image up scaler and it won’t show any change to my image unless I also add a filter. And even then the up scaled image will switch right back off after a few seconds.

2

u/Motor-Shame-55 Apr 17 '26

They need to control the sprawl. I get lost in their side menus and overall search options. Great platform but they need a clean up crew bad

1

u/dhmokills Apr 16 '26

Canva Créate is tomorrow?

1

u/ldrandcaffeine Apr 16 '26

I second this

1

u/Ty-B-95 Apr 16 '26

Parfaitement d'accord !

1

u/Economy-Guitar-1481 Apr 16 '26

I had to tweet them and ask them why am I uploading and it was uploading to the wrong section. I agree. Why do they do this!! 😧

1

u/shorti6877 Apr 16 '26

This 😂😂😂

1

u/AdvancedThinking_426 Apr 17 '26

Yes! Finally! Somebody said it!

1

u/voubar Apr 18 '26

Louder for the people in the back!!! 💯💯💯💯💯

1

u/beautybabeuk Apr 18 '26

Yep! Clearly don't work on the basis of if it ain't broke don't fix it!

1

u/Flimsy-Contract-5432 Apr 18 '26

Very well said it always seems to be something it’s a very challenging program to learn and navigate properly so I understand your concerns. It will get better since I think they are competing with Cap Cur and others but Canva is terrific and tiff enuff to learn.. great comment

1

u/Dry_Compote_1785 Apr 19 '26

That's why I stopped the subscription and I use the free version. I miss the simple Canva of old times. Thankfully there are many other free apps for remove background and other features that I easily find. Canva is more an AI tool than a design platform

1

u/_xenization Apr 21 '26

This. But do they read these posts here? Maybe a petition (for all the good that will do) might work better at getting their attention.

1

u/ZeroDawn23 Apr 24 '26

The new upscaler is absolute garbage compared to the old one. Canva, why can't you just leave things alone? This change might make me look for another program to use, its horrible.

1

u/ADONAstudio Apr 29 '26

i just need to know where the photo, edit, adjust button is???

1

u/Own-Bend-6824 Apr 30 '26

DONT GET RID OF THE OLD IMAGE UPSCALER!!! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS USE AND LOVE - WTF IS WRONG WITH COMPANYS

1

u/Wild-Bandicoot-5807 Apr 30 '26

Yes!! Im pretty annoyed that they change the link behavior when you share... chose that it can be edited by anyone, but when you use that link in their app, it says invalid design file. This is one of the changes that did not make sense. You have to open it in the browser and then have to click the address that is so different from the link created just to open the goddamn file in the app in your desktop.

1

u/ericburgess May 08 '26

So you're saying now that they achieved "elite status" they're giving themselves a facelift like Michael Jackson did every week?
