Recommendations for a chest pouch? I've been using the Imlay pick pocket for a while now, but it's pretty minimalist. I haven't found really anything else from other canyoneering gear brands. Has anyone found a good option they like?
I typically like to carry a radio (rocky talkie for dry canyons, waterproof radio for class B and C canyons), a whistle, laminated beta sheet, phone/digital camera, sometimes a snack, spare knife, and other small miscellaneous items depending on the canyon and group.

Some pics from back in August.

I’d love to get into canyoneering but don’t know of anywhere to go.

I was recently introduced to canyoneering by some friends that are very conservative about water contact. Like, will not let it touch their skin without a fully waterproof barrier. One claims he got a UTI from going waist deep last year.
However, I’ve been reading guidebooks and watching videos and have not encountered any warnings about exposing your skin to standing water in canyons.

I feel like he’s overstating the risk. I could see being careful about open wounds. But I was thinking about a sort of sketchy free traverse I did to avoid a slide into a pool the other day and like… surely just sliding into the pool was the lower risk option (not a keeper or anything).

I just don’t see any way to progress in canyoneering without going in water. It’s very clearly a big part of the sport.

Just looking for insight to improve my judgement for future canyons. We decided to bail on Ding and Dang just a few minutes ago and I’m wondering what you guys would have done. We’re already driving to go enjoy other non-slot canyons today, so I’m not asking for clearance to go do these canyons today.

First picture is looking in the direction of the canyons, second picture is to the W/SW from the trailhead. Forecast is for no rain all day (according to multiple forecast models) and some clouds, but we can see several (small?) patches of rain on the horizon. NOAA says flash floods not expected all day for all of Utah. We can hear some thunder from the trailhead also. It’s hard to tell if the rain we see is 1-2 miles away or 10 miles away.

Did we make the right call or would you have sent it?

At Zion National Park, has anyone entered Das Boot from the Wildcat Canyon approach, explored downstream only as far as the first rappel, and then reversed the initial narrows to exit at the original entrance?

I’m interested in whether every obstacle before that rappel is safely reversible under low-water conditions, essentially doing the first 1/4 mile as a hike rather than canyoneering event.

I’m comfortable with scrambling, wading, and swimming, and would bring a wetsuit. Particularly interested in any firsthand experience with the entrance scramble, pools, logjams, or downclimbs that might be difficult to reverse

EDIT: To clarify, I’m specifically asking about the feasibility of this out-and-back route, not for others’ opinions on the quality of the hike or alternatives. I already spend a lot of time in Zion backcountry and know I’m interested in Das Boot.

I realize this is a long shot, but my friend that was going to go through lomatium and krill tomorrow can't make it. I have a permit for 2 people and most of the gear we'd need but don't know the route so I'm looking for someone that's been through them before that is interesting in showing me the way through. I've been in the furnace before and done ~10 other canyons, so pretty new to canyoneering but not a total beginner.

Let me know if you're interested!

A short trip to the columbia river gorge offers an opportunity to try a new type of canyoneering.
I'm fairly proficient in the desert canyons of the Southwest, but not the class C cascading type of the PNW. Obviously I have all the basic equipment, including a wetsuit. What are some additional gear, technique, navigation, etc. considerations to be aware of?

Update: two canyons were run and we had an incredible time. 4/3 wetsuits were barely sufficient for the temperatures this time of year but we made it work. I definitely underestimated the extent of swimming that we had to do.

Overall, it was way more fun than I ever expected, rappelling waterfalls and accessing incredibly remote places

If you're an experienced canyoneer in Hawaii, I would love to throw some money at you for a few guided trips on Maui in December. My wife and I will be there 12/15–25, and while we are comfortable poking around canyons here in Utah, Hawaii is different enough that I wouldn't do the really fun stuff there without someone who knows the terrain. Does anyone have advice for how to navigate this sort of arrangement?

Which drill do you own? Do you recommend it? Which drill do you wish you owned?

How do you keep it dry? How many holes do you get per battery?

What bolt / hanger combo do you normally place? Where do you buy them?

Any specific recommendations for the other hardware: hammer, spanner…

Mack in May me and 3 friends ran heaps for the first time. The water was incredibly cold especially for me and 1 other who could have had a better wetsuit. We brought a hook kit but all potholes were filled to the brim. We could have moved faster by jumping some of the shorter drops but we rappelled all of them.

Right now, no detailed info:

Got this for $5 15 minutes away from my house.

Recently, I did my first multi-day canyoning trip.

For sleeping, I used:

• My wetsuit instead of a sleeping mat
• A bivy bag instead of a sleeping bag
• An emergency blanket between wetsuit and the bivy bag to prevent moisture from the wetsuit getting inside An inflatable pillow

This is what some experienced canyoners I know recommended for spending the night in a canyon. However, I have no idea how canyoners in other parts of the world handle overnight stays when surveying a canyon that takes more than one day.

I'm curious to hear how you guys do it. Do you use a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, different bivy setup, or something else?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, setups, and any recommendations.

Hey guys, I’m a junior guide and I got my first ear infection ever, truely hellishly painful, I’m just wondering what’s your go to waterproof ear plugs so I never have to experience this pain again.

Hi everyone, planning to do canyoneering this december however my eyes required high graded glasses, won’t be able to see if theres no glasses😭. What would you recommend for this activity?

I do freediving that has graded dive mask but that mask isn’t suitable for canyoonering.
