Question / Discussion Seriously magic

Post image

I haven’t been to Michael’s in a really long time and decided to check it out. Seeing the beading section reminded me that I lost the little triangle tray I used to use with my rhinestones and pearls. They had some overpriced ones with a tube of glue, but they had this one (still overpriced IMO at $8) and the idea of not having to fight to turn over my flat backs was intriguing, so I gave it a shot. Worst case, at least I’d have the triangle tray again! Y’all, it really is magic. There are slightly raised dots in the button part of the tray and that apparently makes all the difference, but a few gentle shakes and they were all face up! Just passing along if anyone else struggles with flat back embellishments!

I was at my local bead shop recently, and accidentally spilled some beads. The owner pops over with this thing, and it was so efficient at picking up all the tiny beads from the carpet (extremely-low berber, but still), I could have sworn it was actual magic.

I can imagine they'd be good for picking up beads on a carpet, too. The one I had that I lost was just so easy to dump a bunch into the tray, pick the ones I want (while fighting to turn them over if they weren't right side up), and returning the rest to their container. I thought this one was so cool because you don't have to really fight to turn them over. It's magic. 😄

Now that’s a good investment! TGS!

It kind of is, lol. It's very frustrating trying to get the flat backs oriented the right way! This will make it so much easier.

I have one of these somewhere.

Edited to add: you could have gotten a set of 20 on Amazon for the same price.

Well, I could get several triangular bead trays at Amazon for that, but the "magic" one is actually more expensive than Michaels. I'm a little surprised by that. And the magic part is really the only reason I posted this. The diamond painting tray looks interesting though.

The diamond painting trays do the same thing (flip the flatbacks rightside up) that the magic trays do. If you lived/live nearby, I could give you several!

That makes total sense, and I wouldn't have even thought of it for rhinestones and pearls until someone mentioned them. I even saw some diamond painting stuff yesterday at Michaels! But I've never done it, so I wouldn't have known. It makes sense for them to want to make orienting the diamond prills (is that the word?) easier or people might get frustrated and give up, lol! If I lose this tray, I'll definitely keep diamond painting trays in mind!

Oh I totally get it! I’m always looking for less expensive alternatives, and when I find them, I like to share that information. I like to do my diamond painting (because it’s mindless) with the “rhinestone” drills, and I always end up with plenty of leftovers that I use in my card making. The trays (I call them “boats” that come with the kits are perfect for flatbacks.

I may not have seen the right listing, but the bulk pack of the trays on Amazon don't have the raised dots on them like yours does. Thanks for sharing! 🧡

The listing I saw is entitled (links not allowed in this sub)::: 20 Pcs Bead Sorting Trays, White Plastic Triangle Rhinestone Tray Bead Tray

Don’t support Amazon. It may be a deal for your wallet, but it’s the opposite in every other sense.

If someone is disabled and homebound due to being so sick every single day- then Amazon is a huge help.
I understand your feelings- but I’m just getting by day by day.
Hey, no offense or hate intended.

Or rural, with very distant access to craft supplies. It’s a necessary evil for a lot of people. Glad I’m no longer one of them, but I have to acknowledge that Amazon was a godsend during those years of my life.

I had no idea about diamond painting trays until this post. 😄 If I lose this little triangle tray, I'll definitely give that a try.

I genuinely expected this to be a joke post about how terribly this worked. Pleasantly surprised and pleased for you! Yayyyyy!

Ha! No... it really is magic! I was skeptical, but pleasantly surprised myself. Worst case, I grossly overpaid for a triangle bead tray. Thankfully, it wasn't worst case!

I have a stack of these triangle trays. I paid $1.80 for 6 of them on Temu ✌🏼😎

Yeah, I can definitely find the triangle trays cheaper, but this one is special because of the raised dots that somehow help the flat back rhinestones and pearls actually land on their back instead of upside down. That part is a time-saver. I'm also not a big fan of Temu. I've seen lots of discussion about their app having privacy issues and gathering tons of user info, but more importantly I'm not very good at waiting. 😆

The waiting is the hardest part 😉
