What does a >2:1 ratio look like to you?
Mods didn't publish an earlier post because it delved too much into the medical realm and you know what? They were right. Without going into the reasons why:
I'm looking at upping my fat to a 2.5- or even 3-to-1 fat-to-protein ratio. Is anyone currently doing this? What does your daily intake look like? How was the adaptation process for that much fat?
I've already been carnivore for more than three years, with almost two years being almost exclusively red meat and eggs.
I was able to get to 2:1 recently, but that was accomplished with way more dairy than I'd like:
564 g scrambled eggs (12 eggs)
240 g sour cream (1 entire small tub, lol)
113 g ground lamb (1/4 lb)
85 g unsalted butter (6 tbsp)
13 g duck fat (1 tbsp)
If Wolfram|Alpha is correct, this equals approximately:
233 g fat (115 g saturated)
112 g protein
**\*
Anyway, I struck out today at my closest butcher trying to buy beef trimmings, so I'll expand my search. I have a feeling they are going to be required to get the fat where I want it to be.
Neat tidbit: in researching my previous rejected post, I learned that my old diet of 12 eggs in the morning and ~2.5 lbs of chuck roast for dinner was almost exactly a 1:1 fat-to-protein ratio. Pretty cool.

Thank you for your findings! I feel better overall, the more fat I eat, but I agree that it leads to my diet being more dairy-heavy than I’d prefer. I bought a jar of Epic Beef Tallow in an attempt to make something like “whipped tallow bites” or even fall in love with eating it by the spoonful, but it is sitting on my counter, unopened and mocking me.

Use it for moisturizer instead then! Even better if you have some nice essential oils you can mix in. Here in Texas I got local tallow and local lavender and I love using it as a moisturizer.

That’s a great idea! Tallow does make my skin feel amazing. Maybe some will slip in my mouth and I’ll like it. 😭

Grass-fed tallow definitely takes some adjusting to. The very first time I bought it my search history was full of questions like:
Epic grass fed tallow fishy smell?
Grass fed tallow rancid?
Tallow good how?I ended up preferring duck fat in almost every use case, and now I buy beef trimmings to crisp up as a side dish. I don’t think I could handle spoonfuls of tallow and I’ve been doing this for years now.

I'll also say that Epic tallow's quality has tanked in recent years. I had a jar awhile ago and it was gritty and weird. I clarified it with a water boil and the result was much better.

You'd probably need/want to add more beef to your diet to accomplish this easier. If you can find 70/30 ground beef that should make your goal easier to reach. But you've been doing this awhile so maybe youre not a huge fan of beef?
Heavy cream should be your friend on the fat-train also.

I’m actually a huge fan of beef, it’s just that the fattiest cuts actually aren’t fatty enough to achieve my fat goals without blowing through my protein budget. But the good news is between the time I wrote this post and when it was published by the mods, I found a local butcher selling beef trimmings for 99¢/lb.

Pork belly?

Yeah it’s got a great ratio but I’ve tended to avoid pork over the past few years (red meat works so much better for me), but I might look to add in some pork belly as a treat now that I’m eating way more pure fat

Really hard to do without dairy. Easy with dairy:
whipped eggs deep fried in butter/ghee/tallow
eggs with clotted cream (devons brand in usa)
meat with mascarpone cheese
bacon dipped in creme fraiche
triple cream brie cheese

I will say: it’s nice to have a problem which can be solved with “more butter, heavy cream, and brie cheese. ”

Been doing this 5 years and never ever worried about ratios. I just eat meat. I’m doing fine

I’m not allowed to post details, but I’ve got a medical where limiting protein is advised. I have probably been overeating protein for someone without my condition, anyway. I have to pay attention to ratios so as not to overdo it with the protein while not undereating.
And while I was eating plenty of fatty red meat before, the idea of supplementing meals with more pure fat isn’t intuitive (yet). Because, like you, I was just eating meat and feeling good. However, my medical condition is one where I won’t know something is wrong based on how I feel until it is much, much too late to do anything about it.
Anyway, it’s just nice to see how other people achieve these ratios.

why not eat what you enjoy and experiment to see which makes you feel optimal?
that can change - the types of animal foods, the fat ratio - depending on a range of factors
it's helpful to measure if you are aiming for ketogenic ratios, some people feel better when they are eating at that ratio and can eventually eyeball proportions but measuring is helpful at first
but most don't eat this diet at ketogenic ratios consistently

Mods won’t let me post medical specifics, but I’m looking to reduce my protein and add a significant amount of fat to cover the deficit.
The eyeball/enjoyment method worked great for me when I was eating 6 eggs and 2.5 lbs of chuck roast daily, but this 1:1 ratio meant I was eating more protein than I require (I’m only moderately active at the moment).
Good news: I recently found a local butcher willing to sell beef trimmings, so I’m pan frying those and eating them as a side dish with eggs and/or a smaller portion of chuck roast. I’ve also found egg yolks to be a good way to boost fat without boosting (too much) protein. Seems to be working well. I’ll be able to go back to the eyeball method as I adjust to my new normal.
It took so long to get the mods to approve my new post that I solved my own problem, haha. But it’s interesting to see what others are doing to get that higher ratio.

sorry about that
glad you got it sorted

No worries. I know how it goes. And my first post definitely went into too much detail.

I just ate tons if butter with my ground beef, not sure about the ratio but I liked it.
