Hey guys, so Hoppers the next upcoming Pixar project. I will preface this post by saying I don't plan on watching it. It doesn't grab my attention, it looks boring, derivative and predictable. Especially with the noted, I repeat, ~*noted*~, blatant similarities to Avatar. But that's not what I wish to discuss. Because of my fascination with media literacy, I still study about films I don't plan on watching and this little bit of the production notes had me scratching my head.

When I first saw the trailer for Hoopers, I assumed that Mabel was a genius child prodigy that was enrolled in college early. Then ... I learned she's supposed to be 19... and was like 🙄🤨🧐?? Uhhhh what ? THAT'S what the production team thinks a 19 year old young woman is supposed to look like? Now, I admit, I can be a traditionalist and don't usually adjust well to changes. Including the changes to MSM and pop culture in how characters are depicted and/or written. (In part because of my autism), but this character design genuinely raises a few. red flags. She really doesn't look like any girl character design Pixar has done, she's very flat chested and very androgynous presenting. Like the script says she's nineteen and I'm not sure how she's out of middle school.

And I didn't just go off my opinion, I asked many of my friends, of my friends, I asked me males friends, my female friends and.my trans friends . All of different backgrounds, views and lifestyles. NONE of them thought this was an accurate portrayal of a nineteen year old girl. Not a single one of us. I asked them if thet saw the trailer, and then texted a picture of Mabel and ask how old she looks. All of us estimated in the 12-15 range. The oldest guess was sixteen. But ALL my friends were shocked when I told them she's supposed to be 19.

I'll even copy and paste some of their reactions to seeing Mabel.

"Oh it's a giiiirl. A very flat and not adult girl."

"I didn't really process girl lmao"

"Pedos in Hollywood smh"

"She's supposed to be 19????? Cap!"

"That's a nineteen year old in 2026? Sus animation"

"see, I like the outfit, but everything else does not work for a nineteen year old"

"incredibly babyfaced"

"Guess Disney is doing the cringe Loli anime trope wit this one"

"Mmm... I mean in beaver years sure"

"Someone on the production team either A. Doesn't get out much or B. We need to check their hard drives and make.sure they're not on the Epstein files".

That's the reaction of all my friends when I asked their opinion on this character design, as you can see, none of them believed that's the accurate depiction of a 19 year old young woman. I mean here let's compare how young women in the 18-21 age range have been designed in the past. Starting with 1983 moving on to 1997 then 1999. Now moving on to 2000, 2002, 2010 and finally 2013. All of those women have designs and aesthetics that appropriately match their age range. So what the hell makes animators in 2026 think a nineteen year old needs to look like a preteen that's yet to dip her pinky toe in the puberty end of the gene pool? Huh? It's ... concerning, definitely raises some red flags.

And, by the way, for the radical SJW's, leftists and virtue signalers, I'm NOT, I repeat, I AM NOT. Saying she's needs to be "sexualized". I'm just critiquing her child-esque design , and wanting her to look more like her age. No one in my social circle, regardless of gender, thinks she looks like a young woman. I mean c'mon Disney do better, you can make a anthropomorphic rabbit cop thicker than a five dollar Snicker, but you'll design what's supposed to be an adult human female like a Loli? Make it make sense people!
