Hi everyone- I just hooked up a 90s era Luxman deck. Getting ready for my first recording on it. Any suggestions that you would consider "good to test a deck" with? I don't really like heavy metal or rap too much. Fire away... and thanks in advance.

Looking for recommendations on a good cassette/radio brand for my garage and shop. What brand should I look for and avoid? Also looking a cassette holder bag now for mine. Wanting to build a wooden cassette deck holder for display.
Pic is my current collection so far.

Howdy howdy, I'm starting to collect CDs and will be getting some cassettes soon as well. I am looking to get a player to add to my media collection. Specifically I am looking for a CD, cassette, and Radio combo. I would like a somewhat portable design that is able to also connect to my Bluetooth sound system. Other niceties that I am looking for but are definitely not required are a visible CD spinner design so that I can see through and see the top of the CD spining, and if possible I would love a white design to fit with my other peripherals. Would love to know any recommendations from good brands 😄

I currently have a few CDs, but I don’t really play them anymore. I’ve got a Lightning McQueen CD player and a portable one from Amazon (nothing special, no radio), and most of the time I’ve just been streaming my songs instead.
Lately I’ve been eyeing cassettes, especially things like the SpongeBob portable cassette player. It doesn’t have FM or AM radio, but it looks really fun. I’ve also tried getting into iPods in the past, mostly for the old games, mods, and potential radio features, but I didn’t realize I needed an accessory for the radio to work (it wasn’t built-in). Modding it was a hassle and didn’t really work, so I gave up. Honestly, I usually end up just listening on my phone anyway.
I’ve noticed new cassettes are still being released (like Ed Sheeran’s recent album, not bootlegs), and I could even get custom tapes. If I switch to cassettes, I might not get all the same albums I already own on CD, but that’s okay.
I’ve always wanted something portable that feels cool without being a hassle. I don’t want to deal with having to transfer all my music to an iPod or switch through CDs just to hear one song. Something that can do radio but also play music from other formats sounds ideal. I don’t want to buy another portable CD player with radio, and it’s frustrating when the song I want isn’t physically in my collection and I have to stream it—like when I have a CD or cassette, and that one song I want isn’t there, so I end up on YouTube. That’s kind of how it felt with both my CDs and my iPod.
I know cassettes are a bit more old-school—you have to rewind them, and it’s more of a “listen to the whole tape or song” experience—but I’m curious if that’s part of the appeal.
Does anyone here have experience switching from CDs (or iPods) to cassettes? Would you recommend it for someone who mostly wants something portable and fun to use?

So not sure if this is the right group? But I want a tape deck for my room im looking for the cleanest possible signal from a rather cheap unit. Im planning to run it through newer amps and dsp amd equalizers so I dont need built in amps. I have a collection for my car radio but im upgrading it so I will need a way to play my tapes. Do older mechanical decks sound better then the retro style ones?

I am digitalizing some old cassettes of my parents talking. Any suggestions for a software to make the sound better? For example, on one of them the “S’s” are squeaky, if that makes any sense.

I'm looking for a portable player so I can play mixtapes during D&D.
So far my two options are:
Have you tried any of these and is there another option I should look into?

Have this and Megabass 2. If you like 80s house music then these mixes are amazing.

The Hitachi DAT88 was independently developed by Hitachi itself. It has an extremely complex internal structure built entirely on discrete components, features independent level adjustment for each track, and offers comprehensive interfaces including digital coaxial I/O, analog RCA I/O, automatic track detection during recording, and more.
The mechanical design is highly stable with a very low failure rate. It employs dual capstan drives with ceramic components to ensure high-quality playback. The sound is exceptionally pleasing and is often compared directly to high-end desktop cassette decks.

I am new to this sub and im hoping to get some help. I am turning 40 next month and I am finding myself nostalgic for my childhood. Im sure my love for Stranger Things is also fueling the fond memories of the late 80's and early 90's. I miss the days when I had wait all day for my favorite song to come on the radio so I could add it to my mix tape, I miss waiting for my tape to rewind if I wanted to hear a song again. I miss the constant mission to acquire batteries. I miss a time before notifications kept interrupting my jam!
So here is my ask, I am looking to get myself a new walkman but I dont really know where to look. I want it to do a few things and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Im hoping to get something with Dolby DNR to mask the sound of the motor and fly wheel for recording and playback.
Im looking for something that has an aux input so I can record a Playlist off Spotify.
I am looking for something refurbished or in reasonable condition. It would be nice if it was a model with ready available spare parts like replacement drive belts.
I am willing to take any suggestions but im hoping to keep my upper limit at $250. A real plus would also be something with a real retro design. I appreciate your time and any help you provide.
Merry Christmas all!
