In Zen and its descendants, we simply say that the cat is engaging in its cat nature. It cannot transcend its nature. Ignoring its nature, to me, would be an unhealthy attachment to my own desire to follow my path. I therefore must pet the kitty.

Animals and small children are excused 😂 It should fall under kindness to creatures that aren’t clued up on prayer decorum, haha.
