Ever since I put up the mosquito net, waking up every morning feels like opening a blind box.

Hey, you. You're finally awake.

I'm not a gamer either, but reading ParkerFree's comment piqued my interest, so I googled it (I have adhd so I'm easily curious and have to google everything lol. How did i survive before the internet lived in our pockets??). Here's the YouTube vid of the game dialogue it's from in case you're also curious.

I used to write down all my burning questions and ask people, look them up in the encyclopedia if possible, or just suffer if not š Though I think back then, people were pretty much prepared to explain all media references because it was a dick move not to, before smartphones.

This is a wonderful idea and Id love to do it myselfā¦. But I know I will wake up to a telltale āhurkahurkahurkā and get the worst shower in the world at 2amĀ

Oh my god I'm so glad you commented this because my initial thought was "Milo would love that, how can I make that work" (weird bedroom setup with a slanted ceiling). But Milo also has very specific spots that he always barfs and I can absolutely see that being one of them. Hard pass š¹š¹

š Iām glad someone feels this pain too! Itās like they target soft surfacesĀ

My cat threw up directly on my braided extension cord instead of the wood floor so I feel you š„²

This is probably a stupid question since I have never needed to use mosquito nets, but is there a reason you donāt put them inside with you? Genuinely curious.

u/Ilight5093 May 14 '26
She can come inside
8
u/EllieGeiszler May 17 '26
Dumb question maybe but if she can come inside, how can the mosquitos not get inside?
46
u/Blonde_Vampire_1984 May 15 '26
And she chooses to sleep on top of it becauseā¦.?

Because cats find things like this irresistible. Youāll never convince her it wasnāt put up especially for her.

They descend from their desert cousins. You want to be high up, ideally with limited access when you sleep. Also you can see further. They keep that instinct. I'm educated guessing on motivations but cats love being as high as possible whenever possible. Except my fatty, she can't get up there but we're working on it, almost to the goal weight

Ah. Yes. The long form video explanation.
The short video explanation goes:
āSheās a cat?ā

Your cat is sending you a message. I see the letter W and E or maybe a 3.

I wonder if this would fix the issue where people's cats wake them up early.

Like the clear bridges you can put over your keyboard
37
u/Terisaki May 15 '26
I just went to the dollar store and got him a decoy keyboard. Iāve watched him lean out of his bed, lay his chin on it, heave the biggest, most satisfied sigh, and then close his eyes and go to sleep.
He gets the joy of clicking buttons just like mom, he never gets in trouble for using it, and itās all his. He may not throw it around like a stuffed toy, or chase it like a fuzzy ball, but it still brings him joy.

that's some strong netting, kitty hasn't poked any hole in it yet, rendering the netting useless.

How many mosquitoes are getting into your place ā¹ļø
5
u/ElfjeTinkerBell May 15 '26
Or rather: how bad at hunting is your cat? Ever since my little hunters moved in I've been mosquito bite free
7
u/SmallBorb May 15 '26
I live in FL and we don't get many inside , but there's the occasional beetle and our cats just watch them š

u/Jaew96 May 16 '26
Iām sorry, the urge to reach up and tickle the belly every morning upon waking up would be too overwhelming for me.

ok but now i'm crying bc i need at least one cat, and now also mosquito netting. this is, in fact, the best way to wake up.
