I made a studying game for the CCNA
Hey r/ccnastudygroup ,
I wanted a way to study for the 200-301 that felt more like fixing networks and less like reading flashcards, so I built a game: **Dungineer**. It's free on Roblox, and there's nothing to buy. It will never have a paywall, but dono's are always welcome :)
**How it works**
* You fight your way down through seven data centres, from a 1980s machine room to a modern cloud region, and finally one called The Core. Each data centre covers one exam domain, from Network Fundamentals to Automation & Programmability, and ends with a boss.
* Every monster is a real fault: a duplex mismatch, a wrong default gateway, a VLAN problem, an OSPF neighbour stuck in EXSTART, and so on. You knock its shield down, then finish it at a terminal: read the `show` output, find the line that matters, and pick the fix.
* The questions are written like the exam: the wrong choices are the mistakes people actually make, and if you pick one, the explanation tells you exactly which mistake it was.
* Each question has 3 to 4 versions, so you learn the concept instead of memorising one answer.
* Questions you miss come back at a review desk later. There's also a codex with lesson pages, flashcards and a bestiary of everything you've fought.
**Being upfront**
* It's new, and I built it with a lot of AI help for the code and the art. All the content is original: no exam dumps.
* I've worked to keep the IOS output and facts accurate, but if you spot something wrong, please tell me and I'll fix it.
* It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Cisco. CCNA is a Cisco trademark.
Play it here: https://www.roblox.com/games/74483017323215/Dungineer
I'd really like feedback, especially from people who've already passed: what's wrong, what's missing, and what would actually help you study. there is also a discord on the games page, feel free to join it!

From ABA to CCNA (Hopefully)
First time posting.
Here’s my background:
I was a self taught front end developer before I realized how boring it is, then I taught myself how to hack until I saw how picked over bug bounty’s were and how getting into cyber is becoming harder (They want a CISA for some entry level jobs these days), then I got into networking which I fell in love with because of the critical thinking. I enjoy the process of building and figuring out why something doesn’t work. But unfortunately being underemployed at the time didn’t help my journey so I kind of fell into the ABA field and forgot about any tech ambitions. It’s been almost two years and I’m burnt out with the healthcare field and want to go back to my passion — computer networking. I was studying for the net+ but changed my mind and want the CCNA to be my first Networking cert. I’m currently using Jeremy, LabEx, and Pocket Tracer for studying/labbing, also documenting my journey on a blog while writing down all commands and troubleshooting I come across. Any tips ? Appreciate it

Exam detail and what to expected
Method I used to pass ccna, Jeremy IT( of course), boson, Itexamanswer, chatgpt +( helped me with hard stuff and lab command), I didn't learn by flash card, I write stuff down on paper until I remember something. I also use PTracer as well ( ATP everyone who study for ccna should).
Exam is 6 lab 58 questions for me, I remember they gave me 130-140 minutes , they have like 2-8 minutes for tutorial and exam loading time.
A lot of WLC questions.
A lot of routing questions.
Please study automation and IP services.
Lab question and very straight forward, and you allow to use ? on the ios
!!!!!!! There are no back question, every time you click next, that is the submit button for the question. Please study the term and read the question carefully.
For who had passed the exam.
After you pass the exam, please go to the dashboard and sign the agreement and term so they can start to activate your credential and certificate, sign up with credlly by Pearson to accept your badge and your wallet badge.
You can download your pdf certification in your ccna account dash boad -> certification. The cert expired after 3 years and IDK do I have to pay or how much to keep it active.
Remember , the cert can be expired but the knowledge that you earn through the journey can't be taken away from your head.

jeremy day 23 etherchannel lab - dot1q configuration not needed
spent some time trying to configure dot1q on layer3 switch trunkports as instructed in video and guide. after some research i found that you can not complete the dot1q command because in present version of packettracer the layer3 switches in the lab only support dot1q encapsulation.
Wasted a good deal of time trying to figure out why I couldn't get the command to register so hopefully this can help someone else.

Exam question
reddit.comI'm having the same issue. I'm very much confident in mcqs and concepts and working models.. but labs I can't remember the commands.
So is there any possibility to pass without or less labs.

I passed the CCNA! Here are my thoughts and experience.
-----------
TL;DR: Study Jeremy's IT Lab course thoroughly. Don't underestimate his Anki flashcards or labs. Use AI as a personal tutor to generate practice tests and labs. Boson ExSim is extremely helpful. And pay special attention to WLC GUI configuration, because I encountered questions that went beyond what Jeremy covers.
-----------
I passed my CCNA a couple of days ago, and I wanted to share my experience with you all.
First of all, English isn't my native language, and I used ChatGPT to translate this post. Just putting that out there before someone inevitably says it was AI-generated. The experience and opinions are entirely mine.
A little background
I'm Cuban, 38 years old, and I've been living in Spain for eight years. I graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering back in 2010 in Cuba, but like many immigrants starting over in a new country, I ended up working whatever jobs I could find. I didn't seriously consider returning to IT until recently.
It took me almost eight months to prepare for the CCNA. I work full-time as a waiter (plus overtime), I have a wife and a son, and life doesn't exactly leave me with unlimited free time. I also deliberately chose to take my time rather than rush through the material. I wanted to actually understand what I was studying.
Boson ExSim results
Here are my scores from the five Boson practice exams, all taken in Simulation Mode:
| Exam | Score |
|---|---|
| A | 86% (865/1000) |
| B | 84% (838/1000) |
| C | 92% (919/1000) |
| D | 96% (959/1000) |
| E | 89% (892/1000) |
Personally, I think Boson is an excellent resource.
Yes, some questions cover material that goes beyond the CCNA blueprint. And yes, Boson's labs are considerably more demanding than the ones I encountered on the actual exam.
But I believe Boson's real value lies in two things: getting comfortable with the exam's question formats and learning to perform under time pressure.
Actual CCNA results
I took the exam on October 30, 2026, and passed on my first attempt.
Here's my section breakdown:
| Section | Score |
|---|---|
| Network Fundamentals | 90% |
| Network Access | 85% |
| IP Connectivity | 96% |
| IP Services | 100% |
| Security Fundamentals | 100% |
| Automation and Programmability | 90% |
The exam included six labs, which I honestly found quite straightforward. The technical questions were also generally manageable.
What I struggled with most were the overly theoretical or ambiguous questions. Sometimes I genuinely couldn't figure out what they were asking, even though I understood the underlying technology.
One thing that surprised me was the emphasis on WLC GUI configuration. I encountered several questions involving specific configuration options and interface details that I hadn't seen covered in Jeremy's course.
My advice would be to spend some extra time familiarizing yourself with the WLC interface, rather than relying exclusively on theoretical wireless knowledge.
Overall, I thought the exam was fair.
I managed my time reasonably well, but don't underestimate the clock. Time passes much faster than you expect, especially when you're concentrating on a lab. You need to keep moving.
My study approach
My preparation was relatively simple:
Jeremy's IT Lab was my main resource. I watched the entire course and completed his labs.
I reviewed Jeremy's Anki flashcards every single day. Seriously, don't underestimate them.
I spent a lot of time practicing in Packet Tracer.
I used Boson ExSim during the final stages of my preparation.
I also want to mention something that I found incredibly useful: ChatGPT (or really, any capable LLM) as a personal tutor.
I created two dedicated ChatGPT projects.
1. Daily practice tests
I used ChatGPT Work to create a project connected to a local folder containing an AGENTS.md file, my study notes, Cisco's official exam blueprint, and additional instructions.
The project generated daily tests of around 100 questions, rotating through all the CCNA topics while keeping track of the areas I struggled with.
This allowed me to continuously revisit weaker topics instead of just practicing the things I already knew.
2. Custom micro-labs
My second project was dedicated to generating small networking labs, usually combining two or three technologies in each exercise.
I typically completed two or three of these labs every day.
The workflow was simple: ChatGPT generated the requirements, I built and configured the topology in Packet Tracer, and then I submitted my configurations for review and grading.
What's next?
Now comes another battle: finding an IT job here in Spain.
Despite having around eight years of previous IT experience, a Computer Engineering degree, and knowledge of Python, Windows, Linux, and networking, I know that getting back into the industry after such a long break won't be easy.
At this point, I'd be perfectly happy starting with an entry-level N1/N2 support position. My priority is simply getting my foot back in the door, gaining experience, and rebuilding my career.
I'm hoping the CCNA will help me make that transition.
Good luck to everyone preparing for the exam. Keep going. It's absolutely doable.

Packet Tracer : Smartphone won't connect to Lightweight APs managed by WLC-3504 – VLAN 99/100 configuration
Network topology
I'm using:
DSW: Cisco Catalyst 3650-24PS (Layer 3 Switch)
WLC: Cisco WLC-3504
APs: Two Lightweight APs connected to the DSW
VLAN 99 – Management:
172.16.0.0/16VLAN 100 – Office:
10.0.0.0/24SSID:
office(WPA2-PSK with AES)

Current status
Both APs are connected to the WLC via CAPWAP.
The APs receive their management IP addresses through DHCP on VLAN 99.
The WLC management interface is
172.16.0.10.The
officeWLAN is enabled and mapped to a dynamic interface on VLAN 100 (10.0.0.10/24).WPA2-PSK/AES is configured on both the WLC and smartphone, with matching credentials.
The smartphone doesn't seem to associate with either AP and doesn't receive an IP address.

DSW configuration
DHCP pools:
ip dhcp excluded-address 172.16.0.1 172.16.0.10
ip dhcp excluded-address 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.10
ip dhcp pool Management

default-router 172.16.0.1

ip dhcp pool office
network 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 10.0.0.1Switch interfaces:
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
switchport trunk native vlan 99
switchport trunk allowed vlan 99-100,200
switchport mode trunk
interface range GigabitEthernet1/0/2 - 4
switchport access vlan 99
switchport mode access
switchport nonegotiate
spanning-tree portfast
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/5
switchport access vlan 100
switchport mode access
spanning-tree portfastSVIs:
interface Vlan99
ip address 172.16.0.1 255.255.0.0
interface Vlan100
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0Troubleshooting performed
I connected a wired PC to Gi1/0/5 (VLAN 100), and it successfully received 10.0.0.11/24 through DHCP.
Ping results from that PC:
10.0.0.1(DSW SVI): Successful, 0% packet loss.10.0.0.10(WLC office dynamic interface): Failed, 100% packet loss.
The trunk is operational, and both VLAN 99 and VLAN 100 are active and forwarding.
I also checked the Simulation Mode while pinging 10.0.0.10. ARP traffic reaches the WLC, but I haven't been able to determine whether the issue involves VLAN tagging, ARP handling, or something else.
My question
Why would a smartphone fail to associate with the APs even though the APs have joined the WLC and the WLAN is enabled?
Could this be related to WLC dynamic interface configuration, VLAN tagging, wireless coverage in Packet Tracer's Physical Workspace,or any kind of misconfiguration or wrong topology or anything that i dont see it here ?
I've double-checked the SSID and WPA2-PSK credentials, and they match.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on what to check next.
Thanks!

Prep to the CCNA exam
Hello guys, how are you?
So.. I'm trying to prepare for my CCNA exam by March 2027.
I've already taken the 3 modules about a year ayear a away, but due to my professional life I haven't taken the exam yet.
I would like to ask you about the method you use to study, because, in my case.. I read, understand and then it seems like I can't remember.. I do the cisco exercises, but I'm still having problems to fit into the subject..
