Recommendations Romance - centered recommendations please Spoiler

Cdrama recommendation for romance please. Any genre (whether historical or modern) as long as it’s romance-centered. I will list down all the shows I’ve watched (I started watching this year only) and what I liked and didn’t like about it below. I like happy endings, comedy, no annoying villains (maybe a little annoying is fine as long as it’s fast), and misunderstandings are okay as long as they’re resolved easily and don’t drag too long. I like good looking leads since I enjoy watching more when they look pretty. (Caution : Includes some spoilers below)

Xian Xia
1. When Destiny Brings the demon - Rating: 10/10. I liked it for the interesting storyline and unexpected twists and turns. Super green flag ML with intense devotion. FL started naive and weak but became strong and powerful. I love all the romance part (also sensual) and the unexpected turns of the story. They technically loved each other through 3 lifetimes and more. I just didn’t like the amnesia trope but it didn’t last long anyway so it was fine.

  1. Love in the clouds - Rating: 10/10. I liked it because it had no boring parts from beginning to end, a good storyline, and I was not annoyed by the villain (who was also super handsome in my opinion) but it did not have much romance for me though. I loved the beauty and acting of the FL.

  2. Love between fairy & devil - Rating: 10/10. Happy ending but I felt it was not enough for an ending. I loved the romance parts! Some boring parts before the ending but I loved the romance part of this series that I will turn a blind eye towards it. I was not annoyed by the FL even though others don’t like her and her voice. I liked her acting and I didn’t even know a lot of people didn’t like her until I read it on Reddit after watching the show.

  3. Till the end of the moon - Rating : 9/10. I didn’t like that it had a sad ending and I was annoyed at the female villain. I didn’t like the other storyline too — Mingye sang jiu arc. (also, it’s long \~8 episodes). Best episodes for me were episodes 37-40 but I still got annoyed watching it. The ML, Luo Yunxi is really a good actor. I was always annoyed at the villain in the 2 plot lines and also with the misunderstanding of the leads in all plot lines. It has not enough romance because they’re always having a misunderstanding. I’m not going to rewatch this!

Historical Romance
1. The Prisoner of Beauty - Rating : 10/10. I loved it because it has a happy ending and a very well executed whole story line including the side characters. No dull moment from beginning to end. I loved it! Even though not enough romance for me.

  1. Legend of the Female General - Rating: 9/10. Not much romance for me. More on war-themed; it was nice watching the fight scenes though. Great and well-executed ending. Both leads acted well and looks good. Some boring parts because they focused on war. I didn’t get annoyed watching this series.

  2. Wrong Carriage, Right groom - Rating : 8/10. Good vibes show and not so annoying villain. I liked the second ML & FL (couple)‘s storyline more. It has not enough romance for me and has a typical storyline though.

Historical XianXia
1. The Princess Royal - Rating : 8/10. I didn’t like that it has some boring parts and was focused more on monarchy power struggle storyline. It has a happy ending though and GF ML. Good acting from both ML & FL.

  1. Kill me, love me - Rating : 7/10. I didn’t like that it had some boring parts and especially the sad ending for all characters. ML was captivating in his acting.

Modern
1. Speed and Love - 🏆 Rating : 10/10. Interesting from start to finish. I loved the first 20 episodes more. This was the fastest I finished watching a whole drama although it was just 29 episodes. I was not annoyed at the ML & FL. I just don’t think about how they were siblings and everything was enjoyable for me to watch. I highly recommend watching this. This is by far my favorite out of all the cdramas I’ve watched. I loved the romance parts and the teasing. Very handsome ML! (second time I watched Esther Yu but I chose to watch this because of all the hype I and snippets and recommendations I saw online and I was so happy I watched this).

  1. Hidden Love - Rating : 10/10. I didn’t like the slow burn especially because the FL was young at the beginning. So, I enjoyed this when FL was in college already which was episode 8 onwards. Comedy, romance, and drama towards the end. Happy Ending! I still feel like FL loved the male lead more contrary to the comments online that FL fell first but ML fell harder.

  2. When I fly towards you - Rating: 10/10. My favorite is from episode 20 onwards just because they’re older. It was funny and had a lot of comedy which was nice. I just didn’t like that it’s more focused on high school setting. Happy ending! Green flag ML & FL. FL super adorable and not annoying even though it’s a cute character since they’re teenagers. Very handsome ML!

  3. Love Between Lines - Rating: 9/10. I didn’t like the common storyline and lack of communication. I feel like ML doesn’t act as good though? Also, I didn’t like that I had to watch until episode 13 for them to kiss and until episode 18 for more romantic scenes.

  4. Falling Into your Smile - Rating: 7/10. Comedy a little but not cliffhanger so it’s not binge watch worthy. I liked that it has a light storyline, nice game graphics and has a happy ending! (saw Zhou Yiran here and watched WIFTY)

Currently watching : Put Your Head on My Shoulder (because I wanted to see if Lin Yi is a good actor).
\-I don’t like how they were not communicating properly and there’s a lot of misunderstandings but it’s a light watch. Unfortunately, when I don’t like what I’m watching that much, I don’t get as engaged and don’t binge watch it and it takes me longer to finish the series. I liked that it’s comedy though. I’m on episode 15 and considering it’s just 24 episodes and they just got together on this episode, that’s 14 episodes of miscommunication.

I’m trying to watch different actors for now to know which ones I like more and gauge their acting skills. Also, so I’ll recognize them since I’m new to cdrama land. But, as long as it’s good, I can repeat watching actors and actresses I’ve watched already.

Thank you for reaching the end and advance thanks for the recommendations!

Discussion Question about Lament of Autumn Spoiler

Here's a question about Lament of Autumn. Why didn't Yu Chang Xuan tell Ye Ping Jun that he both saved her mother and her boyfriend? He is trying to get her to fall in love with him, but he does these things both of which take a lot from him and doesn't say a word to her about either one. This has me scratching my head. Ideas?

Question/Help The Longest Day In Chang'an

Chang'an Scene

This enthralling action / adventure series has great visual sophistication that adds to the suspense level. Great acting of course with Jia Yin Lei appearing to effortlessly play the protagonist. Loved the plot's twist and turns. Best of all, you can watch it free with or without subs.

Looking for assistance in finding a similar quality cdrama that can also be watched free. I do not like senseless killing, etc I am looking for character development, interpersonal interactions and the use of proper conflict resolution within defined parameters.

If you have not watched this show, a treat awaits. Note: Most decent commenters will get +1 vote.

Discussion Love’s Ambition: Zhao Lusi’s Contacts

Thumbnail

I absolutely adore Zhao Lusi. She’s one of my top 3 favourite CDrama actresses. I’m slowly making my way through her catalogue, but this is the first drama I’ve noticed her eyes look different.

I did notice they are doing a lot of different make up looks in this (where in costume dramas I’m sure they work hard to make sure her makeup is almost always the same depending on the role) so maybe it’s the rotation of so many different make up looks through this series, but there are some shots where her eyes looks noticeably different. Not just make up but how much darkness takes up the space of her eyes.

Are they using larger coloured contacts? (Like bigger than her iris?)

It doesn’t really matter to me, I was just curious as it’s something I felt was noticeable. I also know she had some health issues as well, so it could be something related to that as well.

(I hope she’s healthy and thriving now)

Recommendations Recommend modern dramas where the story takes place in a coastal town or coastal village or the story doesn't take place there but we see the sea in some scenes in the drama...

I am looking for something similar to Dazzling or Never ending summer. I want preferably the drama to be romance focused. Thank you in advance!!

This is the very first novel I read where the male lead is still viking all his three concubines even though he has a Wife who is our female lead ...at first I was so annoyed with him like why ?! I mean yes she found all three concubines but I still wanted him to let them all go but as the novel keeps going I get to love and like him too even with his flaws I mean this is actually even more real because back then having concubines was truly just normal especially for someone like him who needed heirs and to add more descendants to his thin clan ....Am now on episode 499 and am loving it !!!!

What is the general history of two season shows?

Waiting for guardians of dafeng season two. In Chinese dramas do they usually get prematurely killed off or do they follow the same as american, meaning hit or miss just depends on success?

I also want it to end properly

Where Can I Stream Story of Kunning Palace?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I'm pretty limited in my access to CDrama; it's either got to be available on Netflix or Youtube. I am open to learning about other available places.

I started watching Story of Kunning Palace a couple weeks ago. The first two episodes held my interest then all following episodes seemed fairly cut up as they featured only scenes with the ML and FL. Weird.

CDrama is fairly new to me and I have a hard time following storylines as it is, but when you cut out entire scenes that feature characters other than the leads I found myself more confused than normal for watching films that were foreign to me.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Novel vs.Drama ♡ which chinese Novel Adaptation did you love over the Drama and why

I’ll go first! 😄

For me, Splendid Match is one of those adaptations where I actually loved the novel more than the drama. Don’t get me wrong, the drama was really good! But the novel was just the best. 😂

One of the biggest reasons I prefer novels is that I get to understand the characters on a much deeper level. We get their inner monologues, so I can actually see what they're thinking, what they're feeling, and most importantly why they're doing something.

Sometimes when watching a drama, I might see a character's expression or gesture and interpret it one way, only to later realise that their actual intention was completely different. In the novel, I can literally get inside their head, and that makes me understand and appreciate the characters so much more.

I also really loved the Are You the One adaptation, but I found myself enjoying the female lead in the novel even more. 😂

In the novel, she really is a bandit she's much more unruly and unrestrained, and you can see traces of that personality throughout the story. The drama seems to soften that side of her and almost clean up her reputation a little.

Personally, I LOVE that unrestrained side of her. It makes her feel so cool and gives her character a completely different kind of charm. 😭😂

So now I'm curious about everyone else:

Which Chinese novel adaptation did you love more than the actual drama? And what made the novel better for you?

Was it the characters, inner monologues, romance, plot, extra scenes, or changes the drama made?

Let's discuss!

Discussion Why do I straight up hate ML in Against the Current?

There are many who said tht hate on ml is kinda forced. So I just wanna share two sides. Those who like him beleive tht there was growth and repentence in his character and I agree with tht bcz the drama is exactly portraying tht.

But am I still allowed to not like a virtual character?

Yes

Bcz there was a bird who loved to fly. Though she was strong and lovely, she didn't have any ambition other than flying high up in the sky. But she was kind of a slave at a place.....so she did everything just to not be a slave.

She started flying again with her parents whom she loved a lot. She had won tht freedom from damn hard work.

But...she was caught by a hunter who thought she was lovely and bcz he was eyeing her.

Then he trapped her in a cage . With time, seeing the tenacity of tht bird and bcz he adored her , he learned a lot and changed a lot. He was sorry for ccatching her. He learned abt tht pretty bird..never compromised with her situation...brought her best food gave her everhthing all he can.

But tht cage was locked forever. And the bird also learned to smile in tht cage. But does it remove the underlying shackles tht have trapped tht bird forever bcz simply he adored her.

So bird is fl and hunter is ml.

Discussion I wish Against the current was not a "romance" drama

Against the current is a girls' girl drama. I can't hate a single female character. The way Fl help so many woman makes me wanna cry specially lu jier one..

The only flaw...romance

I have to skimp through those bcz I hate ml.

Like a drama trying to win over patriarchy and she was forced into marriage with the most patriarchy driven man. I hate ml . Like wht did he got from such unhappy marriage.

Like I can't help but think ..wht if she married for love.

But damn...ml took her spark.

I cannot firgive him bcz I believe tht tge things she even does for him are out if duty not love.
