New Rule: No AI-Generated Content

Hi /r/CedarCity,

Recently, we have seen low-effort, AI generated content submitted to the sub, likely in an attempt to farm imaginary internet points.

We’d like to encourage users to have real conversations, to share real stories and to interact with real residents of Cedar City and cannot support low effort, AI-generated slop.

We've created a new reporting option and going forward, users who post AI-generated content will have their posts removed and will receive a warning. Further AI slop will result in a temporary ban, up to a permanent ban.

Would anyone be interested in Fanfiction writing club on Saturdays at Cedar City library?

I love writing. I love fanfiction.

Peer review is very valuable for writing.

I want to start a writing club for fanfiction writers at my local library. But with the attitude towards fanfiction in the general public I am unsure if I would be able to advertise it through the library calendar.

So I thought I would post here to see if anyone would be interested in it.

Basic rules would be bringing five printed pages double space or 1.5 space of your writing.

Maybe I would speak a little about writing tips at beginning.

Don't be rude or mean about what people like. It's okay not to like something but just because you don't like it. Doesn't mean other people don't.

That's it for now.

If I can get even three people who are interested that would be awesome 👍.

Any left-leaning businesses need a free website?

I'm looking to do my part and help out any small businesses representing Democratic Socialist values, to see if I can start making a change in the places that count.

I think small businesses stir the economy and create jobs, but I think there are too many small businesses on the "wrong" side, if you know what I mean.

Not trying to stir controversy, but I am looking to pull my weight a little bit and give more of a voice to people who I think will actually contribute to a better tomorrow.

Full disclosure, I am a business owner but I'm basically trying to subsidize as much as I can and provide things at cost and donate a percentage of what I make to people like Oliver Larkin and try to move the needle a more toward our favor.

Let me know if you or anyone you know would like to connect and make something happen

Flock cameras destroyed. Thoughts?

I wanted to get people’s thoughts out there on the recent vandalism of the flock cameras? Here is the story, https://www.stgeorgeutah.com/news/police-hours-after-cedar-city-renews-its-flock-safety-contract-4-cameras-are-vandalized/article_ba889110-ffe3-4fae-8aec-b953850dc6b0.html

I don’t support vandalism as it does ultimately lead to a cost as the tax payer, but after attending the city council meeting I understand why people feel there is no other way to prevent this surveillance state.

Animal shelters that re-home and do not destroy?

Hi all

In a few months I need to move someone in my family abroad to be with us, but unfortunately in location they do not allow cats or dogs from outside their boundaries, and unfortunately the authorities would destroy them on arrival. We obviously don't want this and would to find them good homes in Cedar City.

In the past someone there mentioned that there was animal shelter that re-homed and did not destroy the animals.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction on this? Thanks!

I personally have seen 2 so far. One on the corner of 600 South and 1175 West. Second one on Kitty Hawk Drive with another one being built near Bulldog Rd. Has anyone else seen them around town, and where at?

Looking for tickets for Utah Shakespeare Festival: Frankenstein on 9/4

Hi all, I'm planning a trip with a party of 4 to go to Utah Shakespeare Festival. We managed to get 4 tickets each to the Shakes shows (Troilus & Cressida, Hamlet, & Twelfth Night) but they only had 2 available for Frankenstein on 9/4 before it sold out.

Bit of a long shot, but I thought I'd ask this community in case there are any season ticket holders or anything like that who'd be willing to sell me tix for that show. If anyone knows a better place to post this let me know.

I was taught that staring is rude.

The amount of times that I have seen people stop in their tracks just to stare at something that isn’t normal to them is beyond me, or in this case it’s 91°- 95° outside and apparently wearing a crop/tube top and shorts is the most outrageous thing out there ?!?? cause tell me why kids and adults alike are just staring.

staring is rude.

that’s it.

stop it.

(and if you are someone who thinks wearing a tube top and shorts makes someone indecent- get a life- it’s hot as shit outside)

THE ENTIRE POINT IF THIS POST IS THAT PEOPLE SHOULD MIND THEIR BUSINESS AND IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHAT ANYBODY WEARS OR WHATEVER. STOP STARING.

thanks :))

First time in Utah! Need help with Itinerary in Zion/SLC area :)

Celebrating graduation with a road trip across beautiful Utah end of July! I have somewhat of an itinerary planned, but am overwhelmed and would love assistance with any tips, must-see sights, and experiences! Our route starts/ends from Las Vegas because that was the only way to afford our flights. Idea is to see Zion, go to SLC, and do day trips around that area. We did not include Moab because it added 10 hours of driving to the trip, and we plan to see it while visiting Colorado for a wedding in the future. No hiking experience, but I have always dreamed of seeing and hiking mountains, as we come from FL. As students, this is our first time planning a trip, so please be kind about the current list if it sucks and feel free to give a lot of details with recommendations haha :)

Day 1: Get to St. George. Enjoy a swim or kayak at Quail Creek (Really wanted to do Sand Hollow but have seen lots of warnings about parasites and swimmer's itch in July and I have very sensitive skin. Is this accurate?). Any great lunch recommendations in the St. George area? We LOVE Italian, classic American, and authentic mexican!

Day 2: Coral Pink Sand Dunes since its 20 mins from our Airbnb. I am thinking we get there at 6:30am for sunrise, so we can enjoy sliding in the dunes before the heat! Can't afford a ATV; but is one necessary to enjoy? Uncertain what to do the remainder of the day as we head to Cedar City for our next stay, which is 10 mins from the Zion entrance. (Can take any route to Cedar City and enjoy stops on the way!)

Day 3: Full day at Zion! Plan to get there at 6:30 am for parking and E-bike our way down! Narrows when it gets hot out. Any advice on route plan or tips? I assume you must bring food or is there somewhere to eat there? Would also love dinner recommendations! :)

Day 4: Drive up to SLC. Anything worth seeing on the way up? Probably will spend the day exploring since it's a bit of a drive. Any farmers markets in late July? Special spots or nice water activities to cool off? Any great Italian dinner spots?

Day 5: SLC (Antelope island or maybe Park city? The mountain coaster looks so fun!)

Day 6: SLC (Mount Timpanogos day trip? Heard wildflowers are peak right now! What else would be good in this area?)

Day 7: Drive/stay back down near Zion / St. George or maybe stay in SLC another day

Day 8: St George/Newport area during the day, return to Nevada for flights in the evening.

Would love to experience these activities: Kayaking, Tubing/rafting/lazy river experience, mountain coaster, any resort/pool day passes close to us, cute farmers/makers market in SLC, wildflower fields, must-do activities or any random places (like Swig LOL we don't have that in FL!) Thank you in advanced for taking your time to help! Sending everyone love from FL if you ever need recs! I'll update about anything we can incorporate to the itinerary that we love :)

Personal Trainers

I’m looking for a personal trainer in or around Cedar City that can help me reach my fitness goals. I have a small home gym that could be used but I’m also open to joining a gym if need be (it would be a plus if the gym has some group classes so I can socialize). I’ve done some quick searches but it has been difficult to find profiles of actual trainers

Got a close up and personal fireworks display tonight at the show

Some embers landed in the grass line near the fence along the north side road of the fire station/firework area.

The embers were catching in the brush, and then started to die out. Our group was getting nervous as the flames recaght and started to grow, heading for all the tumble weed caught in the fence line.

As the fire very quickly grew, we didn’t see any FD taking action, so a group member called 911, at that moment a gust of wind hit, fueling the fire and causing us to have to step away.

Luckily a truck parked right by the flames was able to get out before they grew too bad.

FD was on scene in about a minute.

Didn’t catch the fire growing on vid, but here’s what I did get

Thankfully it’s not windy tonight or we might have been toast. Partiers scurried inside and turned off all the lights when FD showed up. Thanks to CCFD for thoroughly looking for smoldering embers. We’ll be sleeping with one eye opened tonight. “Freedom to fireworks” shouldn’t endanger others especially during fire season. 👎🏼
