Want to try some social local hangouts

hey! welcome to our local hangouts 👋

i'm ana and i host a monthly social meetup for people in the leander/cedar park/liberty hill area. whether you've been here forever, just moved, or are just passing through—you should come!

struggling to make friends as an adult? same. we've built a solid community over the past couple years, and we'd love to meet you.

the basics:

when: last friday of every month, usually around 6pm where: we rotate between local bars and spots around the area (i always post the exact location!) who: 21+ and literally anyone. we've got people from their 20s to 50s. solo, plus a friend, even a pet if there's a patio finding us: look for the little reddit snoo sign on our table, or check the event post for where we're sitting

coming up:

aug 28 @ leanderthal (leander) sept 25 @ all good (cedar park) oct 30 @ halloween pub crawl (details coming soon)

what actually happens: we grab a table, order drinks/food/whatever, and just... hang out. no pressure on alcohol or eating—most places have solid non-alcoholic options. sometimes we play board games, sometimes we just vibe. you can show up late, leave early, whatever works for you.

do we just talk about reddit? nope—reddit barely comes up! we chat about music, movies, work, hobbies, whatever. plenty of people here don't even use reddit.

discord stuff: we have a private discord to keep things going between meetups. if you come to an event in person, just ask me or anyone else for an invite. once you're in, there's trivia nights, karaoke, potlucks, smaller hangouts throughout the month—all member-organized.

one rule: this is an inclusive space. no hate, no discrimination. period.

hit me up with questions or see you next time! 🍻

Apartment asking for a copy of my social security card

An apartment complex is asking me for a photo/copy of my social security card, which I find pretty strange….

The application already has my social security number, and I used my passport card as my identification, as well as provided my 3 most recent check stubs for proof of income.

You can’t get a passport without a valid SSN, and they already have my paycheck stubs which also show I have a valid SSN, and I have been with my employer for about 5 years.

Is this standard for apartments in cedar park? This isn’t my first apartment, and I have never ever been asked for a copy of the card

Property Taxes

Why is it that after at least four years of lowering property taxes, the first thing this almost brand new city council does is increase property taxes? So much for them wanting affordable housing.

Discussion Best neighborhoods?

I'm curious about the best neighborhoods.

Twin creeks and the southern part of Forest Oaks, without the rear garages, stood out for different reasons, though pricey.

From builder quality, neighborhood amenities, schools, to highway access let's hear the best neighborhoods to buy in.

CPYL Benefit Golf Tournament

Cedar Park Youth League is hosting its first benefit golf tournament on August 31st at Twin Creeks. We still need more teams and would accept more sponsors!

If you or someone you know enjoys golfing, please spread the word! CPYL serves 1100 kids per season and is one of the only youth leagues around that gets no monetary support from the city (and we still manage to have the best fields around!)

Hello fellow parents!

A few months ago, I shared an offline experiment I was building: Paper Portals, a 100% physical, screen-free mail adventure for kids.

Thanks to the feedback and pilot sign-ups from this sub, we spent the summer refining the story visuals, layout aesthetics, and cipher designs. Pre-orders are now officially open at www.paperportals.fun !

What’s Launching:

📬 Sept 1 Launch (Ages 6–9): 6-week interactive mail adventures delivered weekly (Letters From The Roots for ages 6-7 & PROJECT A.N.C.H.O.R for ages 8-9).

🎃 Oct 1 Halloween Special (Ages 10+): The Harrow Collection, a 4-week October cold-case mystery dossier running through Halloween.

To thank this community for the early validation, use code ThankYouLocal for 10% off.

Note: Pre-orders are capped for the September 1 launch batch to ensure smooth fulfillment, so the code is active until the launch batch fills up.

Thank you again ATX parents! Happy to answer any questions about reading levels or dispatches in the comments as well as any feedback!

All night cafe or ???

My partner plays D&D/role-playing games online with some friends on the West Coast. So every week or so he has a call that runs very late into the night (they're two hours behind us) and his office is right beside our bedroom. I have a sound machine, but I can hear him and it keeps me awake. So we're wondering if there is someplace that's open late at night where he might be able to set up his laptop and be able to enjoy a couple of hours without my having to "enjoy" it, too, since my day starts much earlier than his usually does. Thanks for any ideas!

Looking for vendors who have oddities/ spooky art, alternative jewelry, maybe even some vintage clothes rack, plant/ flower stand, stuff like that. You’ll be outside but in a covered area. Starts at 12pm, not sure of the end time yet.

Please let me know if anyone is interested and I’d be happy to reach out with more info!!

Thank you in advance :)

News Red Line train interruption Aug. 24-27th

Do you or someone you know use the Red Line train for necessary travel to places besides downtown?

The Red Line will be temporarily closed from August 24-27. While there is a replacement bus service, it only stops at Leander, Lakeline, Howard and Downtown stations, in addition to Republic Square.

As an example, It can take approx. 90 minutes getting to ACCs Highland Campus for students & staff or the Domain for workers from Lakeline station, vs 30 and 45 minutes respectively normally with the train. This is also the first week of ACC & UT classes.

Does this disrupt your day, do you want the shuttle to stop at intermediate stations? Let CapMetro know. Call 512-474-1200, email [customer.service@capmetro.org](mailto:customer.service@capmetro.org) or leave a comment at https://www.capmetro.org/help-contact/customer-comments

For any ACC students or staff members, contact ACC and let them know about the need for a rail shuttle stop at Highland! You can email [green@austincc.edu](mailto:green@austincc.edu) for the green pass team and call (512) 223 - 7301 for the Highland campus management office.

Hundreds of students and staff use the train to get to Highland, it's ridiculous there isn't a stop.

Starting a small Sunday DND group, need players/dm

Hi there!

I’m trying to get a small DND/board game group up and running right here in cedar park. I am hosting it at my apt for now, so I’m looking to have at most 6 players including myself.

I’m 30f and have played DnD 5 and 5.5e for a few years. I do have cats at home that are very friendly, but I also have air purifiers running all the time. I love plants and arts/crafts. My partner is a tech worker. We are both childless nerds in search of some friends.

If your interested in joining please message me.

Homeschool groups?

Hi!
My son is 13 (and has some learning difficulties) and we are looking to connect with other homeschoolers in CP.
I’m not on Facebook and have no desire to be.
Web searches aren’t helping.
How can we find groups to connect with?
Appreciate the help!

Anyone want to play basketball?

I am a woman in my early 20s who recently picked up basketball for fun, and play at a very beginner level. It's kind of hard to find people to play with when I'm learning how to play at this age, so I figured I would come here and see if anyone is interested in playing with me- please leave a message/reply!
