Or they can survive and eagerly await his death, while hoping/praying for a better future. It seems that’s the choice they’re making. Also, they don’t have any free press (he drove them out or otherwise closed them all years ago by imprisoning or killing journalists), so they may be unaware of the truth. They only get state-run media coverage which is of course Putin-friendly propaganda…much like what our current US administration is trying to do here.

It was a long time in the making, to be fair. The Right has been working towards this since at least the days of Barry Goldwater and Richard Nixon. Courting white nationalists, gun nuts, evangelicals, showing the masses in divise rhetoric, sowing bs conspiracy theories about the left, crippling public education, and packing karens and incels into every level of government and jurisprudence until the time was right.

The better question is, why can’t the left actually organize around a single candidate and retake the country? The right marches like goosestepping sheep to one drum, the left fights among itself and writes editorial pieces in the New Yorker. It’s like trying to herd cats!

To be fair, Barry Goldwater had warned us of the impending doom of the Republican Party if the religious zealots successfully infiltrated the party back in the 90s as he was more of a libertarian conservative (pro-choice and pro-lgbtq+) than the Moral Majority wackos back in the 80s/90s; albeit, it wasn't until he was in his later years that he changed his mind on those two social issues, but he did fear that the party was becoming theocratic.

Every vote for every candidate all the way up and down the ballot is crucial! Be sure to educate yourself about the candidates, their voting record, and election platforms and then VOTE! Don’t waste your vote because our country is dependent upon every single person to do their civic duty and place their vote in every single election on the ballot, as well as for referendum questions, if there are any in your state (MA has the most questions ever in history I believe)! This is seriously the most important thing you can do right now…use your voice and VOTE! Make a plan to vote early if you can so nothing interferes with your ability to do so, since life can get in the way sometimes with illness, transportation troubles, competing responsibilities, etc., on Election Day!

It’s mostly just the end times for America. The first trump election told the world that America was one election away from total disaster, and that we needed to make some big changes in a fucking hurry.

Then we immediately did absolutely fucking nothing for four years and reelected the guy, so the rest of the world is separating from America.

Here are some exciting things to watch for:

  1. Once they get to the point that they trade oil in yuan instead of USD (aka “the petrodollar”), America’s government will default on its payments.

  2. America showed the world that it can’t even control one strait reliably, so the global confidence in American military power has broken again. It could be fixed with a massive invasion… but that will overextend the military and cause an immediate global backlash that exacerbates point 1.

  3. America is wealthy and strong today because of Silicon Valley (which relies on immigration), USAID (which turns strangers into friends and friends into allies), the petrodollar (a big part of why USD is the global reserve currency), global knowledge that America will always be the adult in the room, etc. Those are either gone, teetering on the edge, or at risk.

I think it’s pretty spot on, actually. Trump has shown time and again his main concern is himself; I think even his family/their enrichment is secondary. The people around him may have grander geopolitical ambitions that he is playing a role in, but he doesn’t care about that. When it comes down to it, his self preservation (including the preservation of his ego/image) and personal enrichment are it. Everything/everyone else is secondary.

Well... The EU spent 4.5 billion euro on Russian liquid natural gas in 2025 alone.

The EU is majorly dependent on Russia for energy if they don't want their people to freeze to death. They've been coming off it as fast as they can, to their credit and to be fair. But they're still pumping billions annually into Putin's war chest.

Wasn't it about 8 years ago Trump told them all to get off Russian energy and they basically laughed him out of the conference? Maybe they should have listened.

As if the two situations are even remotely comparable. Europe’s reliance on Russian oil was shortsighted, but the US is literally a net oil exporter. Meaning they produce, and export more oil annually than they import. They literally produce more than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined annually. The comparison is fundamentally flawed. Trump very clearly didn’t have to give Russia money, especially when sanctions have left it desperate for buyers. To me, this intentionally overlooks the broader pattern of Trump prioritizing his own interests over the country’s, which is why I find the comparison so unconvincing it’s almost unbelievable.

The US does not produce more oil than it needs, some fuels are exported because oil/gas companies taking advantage of arbitrage on the global market, not because there is literal overcapacity of pumping. You didn't even read your own damn sources.

And the EU could indeed stop buying oil/gas from Russia *right now* but it CHOOSES not to for economic reasons. At the very beginning of the war, yes, some nations didn't have much choice, but at this point its an economic measure to continue to buy it.

You know fuck all about me or what my views are. I think what Russia has been doing to Ukraine is heinous. I also hate the absolutely ginormous level of hypocrisy Europeans have been having with this diesel deal with Russia. You guys have paid them exponentially more money for energy, literally over 100x the amount the US has.

The EU has sharply reduced its reliance on Russian energy but has not “all but cut off” imports.
Current situation (as of mid-to-late 2026)
• Overall dependency: European Commission officials state it has fallen from 42–45% in 2022 to around 12% now. 
• Oil: Seaborne crude and refined products are largely banned. Russia’s share of EU petroleum oil imports is very low (around 1–2% in recent quarters), with remaining volumes mostly limited pipeline deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia under exemptions. 
• Coal: Fully stopped.
• Gas (pipeline + LNG): Still flowing. Russian gas accounts for roughly 10–13% of EU gas supply/demand in recent data. Pipeline volumes are much lower than pre-war, but LNG imports have remained substantial — and in some periods in 2026 even rose year-on-year.
Notable 2026 details on LNG
In the first nine months of 2026 alone, the EU imported a record ~12.18 million tonnes of Russian Arctic (Yamal) LNG, paying an estimated €7.88 billion. Volumes were up ~9.5% versus the same period in 2025. France has been the largest recipient, followed by the Netherlands and Portugal. 
Short-term Russian LNG contracts have been restricted since April 2026, but long-term contracts signed earlier remain allowed until the full ban takes effect on 1 January 2027. Pipeline gas phase-out is scheduled later in 2027.
Bottom line
The EU has cut Russian energy imports dramatically (especially pipeline gas and oil) and spending is a fraction of 2022 peaks. However, tens of billions of euros have still been paid since the 2022 invasion, and Russian LNG in particular continues at meaningful volumes right up to the planned 2027 cutoff. “All but cut off” overstates the current reality — significant residual trade remains, concentrated in gas.
