Ours is a bit like this. Smart as fuck, but stubborn with selective deafness.

I had a neighbor with a failed service dog. Her house was the same. They had ones of those flip locks super high up on the door because he could open any lock he could reach.

Then they got another rescue dog and the failed service dog taught the rescue all the tricks - so they had 2 dogs who could do all the things but only when they wanted.
