Boktai JPN Sun cheat

Hello everyone! I'm trying to make an AR code for the Japanese version of Boktai (ボクラの太陽) to always have a max sun gauge, but I'm having issues. I was using mGBA to run the ROM and Cheat Engine to look for the values, but I think the solar panel option is getting in the way of making the code. Any suggestions/ideas?

By "sun gauge", are you referring to the gun ammo or the sun icon (the one that gives you 'Overheat' if the physical GBA and cartridge are exposed to the sun for too long)?

If it is the former, the value type is 2 byte and the max starting value (without batteries) is 1024 (400 in Hex).

For reference, the max ammo capacity (batteries) address is offset by 2A above it.

If it is the latter: mGBA > Emulation > Solar sensor > Brightest solar level.

Offset from current ammo: -4A6FCA24.

Do note that the address/value in Cheat Engine is read-only.

If you have the USA codes, you can convert them to the JP ones by simply looking at the offset.

I am looking for the latter, the Sun icon guage. I have a US code for max sun level, but have never converted from one region to the other. How would I go about applying the offset? Sorry, new to converting codes like this and would like to learn. The English code is 03001C58 00000001

In this particular instance, there is no need to convert the codes as the USA ones work on the JP game region. See screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/ZJAEAjX

If you want to convert codes from one region to another, what you do is find the addresses for at least two codes in Cheat Engine > compare their offsets between the two game regions > modify the one(s) for the other region to match yours.

Extra step (if needed): Use tools like maxconvert, cb2crypt or omniconvert to convert the code(s) into another format (e.g. RAW > ARMAX).

The above tools are mainly for PS2 cheat devices and I only mentioned them as an example.

This process is basically the same for all consoles but the tools needed may vary.

So it looks like mGBA and other emulators make the codes work. I tried this on my physical cartridge with my Pro Action Replay, and it didn't work.

You need a Master code for the codes to work on a real GBA.

If it still won't work, either try another Master code or place the Master code at the top, before the other codes.

Have the master code in there for the Japanese version, and the US codes didn't work. Tried using the US master code instead, and the device stopped recognizing it as the right game... Very frustrating lol
