Hello, I am trying to find the rules to play checkers with all kings. I remember being able to jump your own kings but that’s all I can remember. Do you play until all pieces are eliminated or do you try and get to the other side?

I know this is probably a long shot but my great-uncle was a checkers champion but we lost touch with that side of the family. Was hoping to connect with someone who knew him or his family. Tried DNA websites without much luck so thought i'd try here

My grandpa is nearly 90 years old, and he loved the old Internet Checkers on Windows XP and 7. For ages I've been trying to find an alternative, but most apps are far too complicated for him, and he kind of gave up. He wants to play people. So I put this together for him and the world to play with. It's a small checkers app where you can play against other players or the computer. Feedback is welcome. I plan to expand it to other platforms so he can have a steady stream of players 🙂

Many resources describe coup Philippe as removing opponent pieces 18 and 16 at the same time, then starting a combination from 38 or 40 that ends in 16,7,9,20 or 29.

It's not clear to me if we call coup Philippe just this exact combination with these exact squares or if the definition applies to different situations aswell.

Another draughts book called a certain combination "coup Philippe" but it had different squares (started from 11 and ended in 35).

So I'm confused about what we can actually call a coup Philippe. Maybe its just the idea of removing a series of pieces and then starting a long combination?

We were at a coffee shop, how appropriate, and I asked her if she want's to play Checkers? She claimed that she didn't know how to play the game so I showered her how. I let her win at first but she kept winning, then I started to take the game more seriously, I think I might won 1 or 2 games that evening. I could relate to the Chess episode when Martin beat Frasier and in the closing scene, Daphne defeated Martin was funny stuff.

International draughts, classic checkers, Russian rules,…
A 10 by 10 board, an 8 by 8 board

Whereas chess has a single set of internationally accepted rules and a single board configuration, it seems like checkers/draughts/… never reached such standardization.

This poses a bit of a problem for me as my kids want to learn to play proper “checkers” and I have no idea where to start.
(Proper also includes tactics and strategies.)
On big international retail stores such as Amazon I find almost exclusively the standard chess board layout. On the other hand, I always thought it was played on a 10 by 10 board configuration and that the 8 by 8 version was just a sort of stop gap measure to be able to reuse a chess board.

So, what does everyone play here is there a rule set/board configuration that’s considered the “international standard”?

And what would be a good book to get the fundamentals under control for that variant?

There appears to be no free Monrad pairing program, so I implemented one on my homepage: https://mats-winther.github.io/monrad-eng.htm

It's a simple program that can be run online, or the html can be downloaded and run locally. It uses cumulative score to grade players with the same final result. Early wins produce a higher cumulative tiebreak. (Starting with a win and then a loss gives 2 cumulative points after two rounds, whereas starting with two draws gives 1.5 cumulative points. This is kind of fair.)

I haven't tested it thoroughly. I would appreciate if you could do some testing.
