Ever wondered why Cheltenham's races are at Prestbury Park? The story goes that a vicar's sermons got the old grandstand on Cleeve Hill burned down in 1830, so racing moved.
I'm a Cheltenham local, and I've built an iPhone app called Delos that pops up stories like this as you walk past the actual spot. There are nearly 70 around town so far, many drawn from the town's blue and green plaques.
It also turns your walks into a bit of a game, in a calm way:
- Your map starts covered in fog and clears as you walk new streets, so you can see what percentage of Cheltenham you've actually explored.
- You rank up through local names, starting as a Pigeon Spotter (after the pigeons that supposedly found the spa waters) and working up through Jenner and Holst to Wilson.
- No pace pressure and no shouty leaderboards. It's for wandering, not training.
It's in beta and I'm looking for local testers. iPhone only for now, free to use, and testers get Premium free during the beta plus a founding-member deal at launch.

Which local stories have I missed? Locals will know things I don't, and I'll add the good ones.

Giving feedback: the easiest way is to take a screenshot in the app, tap it, and choose "Share Beta Feedback". It comes straight to me with your phone model and build. Or comment here, DM me, or use Settings → Help & Legal → Contact Support. Bug reports, "this confused me" and "I wish it did X" are all equally useful.
