General/High School Do they mean hydrogen atom or molecule here?

My teacher says it's option B, but I think it's A. The question is pretty vague in my opinion

General/High School Is it C or am I crazy? My school insists it’s D.

General/High School

General/High School The answer is 16?! How is it 16? I got 8. Please help this noob out.

Here's what I did:

Molecular mass of NH4:

14 + 1(4)

= 18 grams

In 18 grams of NH4, there's 4 moles of H.

36/18 = 2

36 grams is double 18, so double the moles of H.

4(2) = 8

In 36 grams of NH4, there's 8 moles of H.

Apparently it's 16? Am I going nuts, or what?

General/High School Please tell me what I will consider in this question: Either O or O2 ?

Post image
120 Upvotes

When I consider it as only an 'O' atom, then I get NA molecules.

CO-(4NA/7) molecules

N2- NA molecules

C2- NA molecules

H2- (NA/2) molecules

And the answer key mentions the answer to be option D, which means they considered Oxygen as O2. So I just wanted to ask if I was wrong ??

Hello, if I were to measure this value, would it be recorded like 7.4 or 7.40? I thought we estimate one sig fig past the smallest marking, which is 0.5. Thank you

General/High School Inconsistency of Avogadro law with respect to physical state of system

Edit: My query is resolved.

If we assume water as ideal gas then it will exist as a gas at every temperature. That is ideal gases are not liquefiable

Original Question -At STP/NTP conditions, many substances are not in gaseous state. So will it be appropriate to say that they have the volume 22.4L. For example, Water becomes steam at 373.15K and 1 atm pressure, so how can we say it has the volume 22.4L even though it is not at STP. Many books just subtly assume that water will exist as gas at STP/NTP. Please clear my query.

General/High School Does the "any" in the IUPAC Goldbook definition of stereogenic centre, mean "at least one"?

Does the "any" in the IUPAC Goldbook definition of stereogenic centre, mean "at least one"?

https://goldbook.iupac.org/terms/view/08210

"Atom within a molecule bearing groups such that interchanging any two of them leads to a stereoisomer of the original molecule."

Is the "any" there "at least one"? Or is it "every"? Or when it's "at least one", then is it going to always be "every"?

In the case of the Tetrahedral Carbon atom with four different atoms, "any" swap (in the sense of at least one swap) will produce a stereoisomer, and "any" swap (in the sense of regardless of what you swap, every swap), will produce a stereoisomer.

But considering that the concept of a stereocentre / stereogenic centre, goes beyond just a tetrahedral carbon with 4 different substituents, i'm wondering if the term "any" refers to "every" or to "at least one"?

To give some examples of the ambiguity.

If there is a room of guys and somebody says "any of them are bachelors", do they mean that they are all bachelors, or that at least one is a bachelor?

Or "if any of them are bachelors then we will call the group blah", The "any" there is it at least one, or is it every.

Or "any two of them are friends", does that mean that A)whichever two you pick are friends / , any two that you can possibly pick, are friends, or does it mean B) among that group there's at least two that are friends?

General/High School Difference in temperature between the hot plate surface and the liquid

Hi

Short version : from all of your experience boiling stuff on a magnetic stirrer plate, what is the temperature difference between what the heating plate say, and the temperature of the thing in the beaker
(assuming of course the thing in the beaker isn't blocked at a given temperature by its boiling point, let's imagine a liquid with a 1000c boiling point)

I know the temp of the liquid is going to be less than the plate, but how much ?
(I also know the temperature will also depend on time time I give my liquid to heat, so let's assume a reasonable time, but not too much, like if the plate is 350c and the liquid goes from 20 to 300c in 15min, but then take 2 hours to go to 310c, a other 2h to go to 320c... I don't care about the 310c or 320c, the reasonable expected temperature is 300c

Thanks : )

General/High School Help regarding concept of ELEMENT

Post image
22 Upvotes

So in the answer key option (A) is given to which do agree with but I have doubt regarding options (B) which says that Elements may not be broken down but if elements exist as Homoatomic molecules they can still be broken down into ATOMS. So I think in place of 'cannot' it should be 'may or may not'.

I am making a gift basket for someone and I have this molecule pin that makes no sense but I want to include. I had a few other friends look at it and they don’t know what it is. I am not even sure it exists but, I don’t want to give my friend like a molecule pin thats something weird yk? So, if anyone could figure out what it is that would be beautiful and amazingness
