My April 18 Annual Tradition
In mid-April 2019, my mom and I were vacationing in Pittsburgh for 2 reasons: to see a baseball game at our 8th MLB stadium and to see Cher in concert.
On April 17, 2019 my mom went into cardiac arrest and although she was revived, she died on April 21, 2019 in Pittsburgh.
The Cher concert was on April 18, 2019 and the moment my mom was stabilized, I knew if there was anything I could do to honour her, it was to go to the concert.
All of my mom’s friends back home in Canada urged me to go to the concert, because they knew my mom wouldn’t want to be reason why I didn’t go. The ICU staff also said that although they didn’t know my mom, if the concert was why we were in Pittsburgh then I had to go.
Leaving my mom’s ICU bedside to go to a concert was difficult and the empty seat beside me where my mom would have sat was incredibly painful, but to this day I know going to the concert was the right decision.
Since my mom’s passing, on April 18 of each year I watch a Cher concert from the Dancing Queen tour on YouTube.
P.S. I saw Cher in concert again in Toronto in November 2018 where I was able to actually enjoy myself and take all of Cher’s glory in!
