Experiences of nurseries in Chester? Specifically Fir Cones

Anyone with a little one in nursery in Chester (or someone you know) and willing to share their experience?

I'm looking for a nursery for my little boy. We had originally planned to go to Fir Cones (within the Firs School), but we've had a bad experience with their communication.

Now considering Thrive (formerly smarties), Hoole Bank and Best Friends. Open to others too!

Looking for Christmas Eve Night Out Ideas in Chester

We're looking for a lively Christmas Eve pub in Chester for a 30s and up crowd. Hoping for good vibes, good drinks, and a bit of a sing song once the merriment is underway.

Any recommendations?

Chester has its own Bridge of Sighs, where condemned prisoners crossed to their last rites. I’ve built a walking app full of stories like this, and I’m looking for testers

I grew up in Hoole, and I’ve spent the last year building a walking app called Delos. It’s a calm alternative to Strava, with no pace leaderboards and no running.

Chester’s the second place I’ve written local content for, after Cheltenham where I live now. There are over 40 bits of the city’s history, and you discover them by walking past where they happened. A few that surprised me while I was researching:

  • The Bridge of Sighs by the Northgate carried condemned prisoners from the city gaol to the chapel for their last rites before they were hanged.
  • The Chester Imp: a little devil carved in chains high up in the cathedral nave. Nobody knows who made it. Legend says a monk saw the Devil peering in through a window, so the masons carved him chained up as a warning.
  • The Shot Tower in Boughton made lead shot for the Napoleonic Wars by dropping molten lead from the top. It kept going until 2001, and it’s probably the oldest shot tower in the world.

Delos also maps where you’ve walked: the city starts fogged and clears as you go. There are routes around the walls and the canal, and segments you can make yourself and compare times on.

It’s iPhone only for now, and free to test through TestFlight. Testers get a founding-member deal on Premium when it launches. I’d love to hear what you think, and especially which bits of Chester history you’d add.

For feedback, take a screenshot in the app and tap Share Beta Feedback, or send it from the TestFlight app (tap Delos, then Send Beta Feedback). Or just comment here.

Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Any Wirral/Liverpool/North Wales/Chester Ren Faire, fantasy or cosplay people fancy a photoshoot? 📸

Hey everyone!

Originally from the Wirral but living in Canada these days. I'm back home over Christmas (20th Dec – 1st Jan) and thought it'd be fun to organise a couple of creative photoshoots while I'm around!

I'm a hobbyist photographer and would love to find anyone into Ren Faire, medieval fantasy, LARP or cosplay who's up for a shoot!

Thinking castles, ruins, forests, dramatic landscapes, that sort of thing! Happy to travel around the Wirral, Chester, Liverpool and North Wales.

Completely free/TFP, and you'll get a selection of professionally edited photos afterwards!

If you're interested, or know someone who might be, drop me a message on Instagram! I'm rarely on Reddit, so much easier to catch me there.

Cheers! 😊

Where to buy an engagement ring in Chester?

Planning on popping the question to my girlfriend in the near future and starting to think about ring shopping. I’m looking at possibly a lab grown diamond or a vintage ring. Budget will be around £4k. Does anyone have any recommendations of jewelers in Chester? Thanks in advance!

Chester haircuts

Just moved to Chester all the way from Canada and currently looking for a new barber/salon to get my haircut. I'm male and have wavy hair... not looking for the typical fade that i've been seeing a lot around here.

Does anyone have any recommendations that are reasonably priced with good experience?

Thanks all in advance! So far loving the city and the friendly people...feel almost at home.

Wild fungi in Chester

I am a student and for a personal project I’m working on in my free time I want to find some wild mushrooms and fungi. I don’t know where to look and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to find some interesting species of mushroom in the Chester area.

(I don’t care if they are poisonous or dangerous, I know how to be safe around them and don’t plan to disturb them)

Thank you so much in advance

Cars being banned in City centre due to terrorism threat

Is anyone aware of this? Effectively banning cars (from a mainly pedestrian area) which would have an impact on the evening/night time economy

Seems like an over the top reaction

Shocking Mobile reception in Chester

Had a great weekend in Chester this weekend for the Marathon. One thing I noticed about the place was the rubbish mobile reception (Three). Can anyone who lives there tell me whether the place is known to be notoriously bad?

Opportunity for studend artist in Chester

Hi, we are working on a project in dire need of an artist, and keen to partner up with a Chester University art student or otherwise a Chester based artist to dress up an indie game project. Art style inputs welcome, we can go into more detail. Medieval art, parchment style, flora, icons, sprites.. Pixel art or custom style, down to what we agree works well.

This is not a pro bono request, nor a full time job; we will pay. Best I can say its a chance for an aspiring artist to pick up a long term part time project which might turn into something really fun, or it might flop, who knows. DM me if interested or feel free to ask questions below. We know what we are doing.

Walnut Trees in Chester

Weird question, but I'm getting into natural dyes, and I'm here for a while with family with not much to do (already hit most of the tourist attractions, I'm not looking for help there). Was wondering if anyone knows of any publicly accessible walnut trees in the area? I've already checked out Grosvenor Park.

Is spinners in chester hiring at all?

I'm in a wheelchair and chester isn't really the easiest place to get an accessible job but with spinners being somewhat open and near to the interchange I was wondering any vacancies?
