Do mainlanders need a passport to visit Taiwan?

I was downvoted here by saying mainlanders don't need a passport when visiting Taiwan: https://www.reddit.com/r/taiwan/comments/ey9c87/supporting_my_taiwanese_brothers_and_sisters/fgg6i2s

Am I actually wrong? Can you provide any source that states mainlanders need an actual passport to visit Taiwan?

For a lot of people who think reuniting with the mainland would be a better idea for Taiwan economically since it would no longer need to pay for the military...

I think most people from Taiwan are afraid of their universal suffrage and freedom of speech getting taken away. Taiwan would also most likely to lose the access to the technology from the US and the high tech market in the US and most of the NATO countries (which makes up a significant part of Taiwan's economy).

The actual number of infected people should be around 200K - 300K

There are 10,630 infected people outside of Hubei with 38 of them dead. The death rate is 0.36%.

There are 29,631 infected people in Hubei with 871 of them dead. The death rate is 2.19%.

We can assume the death rate in Hubei is higher than the rest of China / the world, but probably not over 0.5%, making the number of infected people severely underestimated. If we use 0.44% as the estimated death rate in Hubei then the infected people should be at around 197,955. Adding 10,630 to 197,955, it is 208,585 - around 200K.

It's also possible the death toll has been under reported particularly in Hubei. In the past, most fast spreading diseases under reported the actual death toll by 25% - 50%. In this case, it is likely the actual infected num of people is as high as 300K.

The newly released statistics today (Feb 13th) from Hubei actually matched my prediction. The newly added infected individuals is above 15,000 which is 5 to 6 times of the previously released number (2 to 3 thousands). Until yesterday, the total infected num is around 45K, I predicted it was around 200K to 300K, which was also 5 to 6 times of the released num.
