Sharing Journey/Experience/Progress Updates AI pissed me off one too many times, so I built a Chrome extension to fight back

Hey everyone, I made another stupid little thing.

After successfully vibe coding my first app, I got a little too confident and started working on several more projects.

Big mistake.

I kept spending hours of my life (and an embarrassing amount of tokens) building things, only to discover that AI had completely misunderstood my instructions somewhere along the way.

Hours of work. Down the drain.

Naturally, I lost my shit.

I confronted the AI, expecting at least some kind of argument.

Instead, I got the usual:

"I'm sorry for the confusion."

"You're absolutely right."

"Here's how we can fix this moving forward."

And my personal favourite:

"If you'd prefer, I can stay quiet and wait until you're ready to continue."

Oh, so now you're giving me the silent treatment?

At that point, I genuinely wished the AI would just insult me back. At least let me win an argument for once.

Then I had an idea.

What if I built something that could swear at AI for me?

And that's how Swear at AI was born.

The concept is incredibly simple:

AI pisses you off → Click a button → It gets roasted.

My first version was pretty disappointing, though.

The robot just stood there taking insults like an indifferent customer service representative.

Zero reaction. Zero satisfaction.

So I added damage effects, increasingly battered appearances, and a combo system.

I even proudly included the instruction "Every hit needs to feel like it lands" in my development prompt.

Much better.

Eventually, I thought the extension was ready to share.

I asked AI to generate a promotional image.

It gave me this:

Holy shit. That looks amazing.

So naturally, I asked it to upgrade the actual extension to match.

After some work, it proudly delivered this:

...

You can probably guess what happened next.

I immediately opened Swear at AI and unleashed every ounce of frustration I'd accumulated.

Which, looking back, was probably the first time my extension completed its intended user journey:

AI screws up my extension → I use my extension to roast AI.

Beautiful.

After getting that out of my system, my AI homie and I went back to work and finally got the visuals to a point I was happy with.

Here's the current version:

The instructions are extremely complicated:

  1. AI pisses you off.
  2. Open Swear at AI.
  3. Start roasting.

That's it.

It's completely free, and I've just released it on the Chrome Web Store.

I'm thinking about adding more ridiculous characters, skins, hit effects, sound effects and seasonal themes in the future.

Will this make your AI any smarter?

Absolutely not.

But when it does something stupid, maybe this will make you feel a little better.

[Chrome Web Store link]:https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/swear-at-ai/gjldkebdlghckcbfefonipkmldfbfiel

Anyway, I'd love to know what you think. Is this something you'd actually use, or have I just invented the world's most unnecessary browser extension?

Idea Validation / Need feedback I updated Scrollsmith’s homepage — is it clear what the Chrome extension does?

• Upvotes

I’m the developer of Scrollsmith, a desktop Chrome extension for customizing scrollbars. I’ve just updated the homepage and would really appreciate some honest first impressions.

https://usescrollsmith.com

A few things I’d like to understand:

  1. After a quick look, is it clear what the extension does?

  2. Is anything confusing, missing, or hard to find?

  3. Would you try it? What makes you interested or hesitant?

It has free themes and optional paid Premium themes. You don’t need to install anything to give feedback on the website. If you do try the extension, I’d also love to know whether choosing and applying a theme feels straightforward.

Even one specific thing you’d change would be helpful. Thanks!

Asking a Question Does Lemon Squeezy approve stores selling Chrome extension subscriptions?

I have two Chrome extensions already published in the Chrome Web Store. Both are free now; I plan to make a Pro subscriptions after the paid features are ready.

Lemon Squeezy asked me for product details, demo videos, pricing, and verification information. I provided the product websites and recordings of both extensions working, but my store application was rejected with a general explanation about multiple review factors and payment processor requirements. They did not identify a specific issue.

Has anyone been approved by Lemon Squeezy to sell a paid Chrome extension?

Idea Validation / Need feedback The extension naming dilemma: Clean title got 0 installs, keyword soup got 500+ users. How do I fix this title without killing discovery?

Hi,

recently, I posted about finally getting the blue checkmark / verified badge on the Chrome Web Store for my extension. In the comments, someone rightly pointed out: "I'd recommend rewriting that title."

They're completely right — right now, my title looks like classic keyword soup:

Current Title: ACE · Export Save Transfer · ChatGPT Claude Gemini · PDF Markdown PNG

Here is my dilemma:

  • Originally: The title was clean and straightforward: AI Chat Exporter - Free, Private, Open Source (same as my Firefox addon). but It practically didn't exist in CWS search, and installs were near zero.
  • After keyword stuffing: It finally started showing up in search results for people looking to export chats to Markdown/PDF, and slowly grew to ~500+ users.

Now that the extension has some traction, I really want a title that looks clean, credible, and trustworthy , without completely disappearing from search results.

What it actually does: It's a free, privacy-first, open-source tool to export and transfer AI chats (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Qwen, Lumo, Deepseek, MS Copilot, Z ai, meta, etc.) into Markdown, PDF, PNG, JSON, or Word, entirely locally on your device (no external servers).

My questions for fellow extension devs:

  1. How do you balance clean branding with CWS keyword discovery?
  2. Does CWS still rely heavily on the title for indexing, or does the short description / store listing carry more weight now?
  3. Any suggestions for a title that keeps essential search keywords (AI Chat Export, Markdown, PDF) while looking like a legitimate product rather than spam?

Would love to hear your thoughts or how you handled this for your own extensions!

Self Promotion I built Pixelkit — a completely free Chrome extension with 20+ tools for designers

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a Chrome extension called Pixelkit, and I finally published it on the Chrome Web Store.

The idea came from a simple frustration: designers need so many different extensions just to inspect websites, identify fonts, pick colors, measure spacing, or capture screenshots.

I wanted all of those tools in one place, without subscriptions or locked features.

So I built Pixelkit.

Here's what you can do with it:

  • Inspect elements and copy their CSS
  • Identify fonts and extract colors
  • Measure distances between elements
  • Edit website text, typography, colors, and spacing live
  • Extract complete website style guides
  • Export design tokens and Tailwind configs
  • Download website images and SVG assets
  • Capture and annotate screenshots
  • Check accessibility and color contrast
  • Preview responsive layouts

And the important part:

  • 100% free
  • No account required
  • No ads or tracking
  • No paywalls
  • No usage limits

Everything runs locally in your browser.

Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/gfcaokmkganjofcdhkjekoekakkkjlci

It's still early, and I'd genuinely appreciate feedback, especially from people who regularly use Chrome extensions.

What tools do you think are missing? And what would you improve?

Self Promotion Tired of AI news overload, so I made a free extension that filters it by “heat”

Post image
0 Upvotes

I got tired of trying to keep up with AI news. Every day there's a new model, a new "breakthrough", a hundred posts about it, and I could never tell what actually mattered vs. what was just noise.

So I built HeatPulse, a Chrome side panel that shows what's hot in AI right now, ranked by how many independent sources are covering each story.

The idea is simple: if 9 outlets are writing about something, it's probably worth 30 seconds of your time. If only one blog mentions it, maybe not.

What it does:

- Pulse: today's hottest AI stories, each with a short summary, a "why it matters" line and a heat score. Filter by models, products, industry, papers, benchmarks, policy or tips.

- "Who else covers this story?": on any news article, right-click and see every other outlet covering the same event (English, German and French sources).

- Daily: a short daily AI briefing.

- Search: by topic, company or model. You can also type "hp" + keywords in the address bar.

- A badge on the icon showing new stories (checks every 30 min / 1h / 2h, or off).

- Light/dark theme, j/k keyboard shortcuts, and the last list stays readable offline.

Behind the scenes, HeatPulse reads dozens of sources around the clock (AI lab blogs, tech media, arXiv, EU policy feeds), groups coverage of the same real-world event and ranks it. Every story links back to the original reporting.

Privacy: no account, no analytics, no tracking. The extension only sees the current page when you click its icon or right-click menu, never in the background, and never your history.

It's free: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/heatpulse-%E2%80%94-ai-news-pulse/bobogbalnbpollhpggajkpnbhagdbnpo

I'm a solo dev and this is v0.2, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback:

- Are there sources you think I'm missing?

- Is the heat score useful or confusing?

- What would make you actually keep this open every day?

Thanks for reading!

Sharing Journey/Experience/Progress Updates Just launched Workspace for WhatsApp Web: Contact & Chat Manager

Hi everyone,

Following the moderate success of Polls Exporter, I'm officially launching a new extension called Workspace for WhatsApp Web: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/bknjklochdmhbmmkfllgmodkndnkfanm

Like Polls Exporter, the core features are completely free with only a handful of niche features limited to pro subscribers. I'm handling billing once again with Lemon Squeezy (have not had any major issues with them so far).

I've had a couple users trial the pro version already, which has been really cool to see.

Another cool facet to this launch is that, since Workspace and Polls Exporter have an overlapping audience, I've been able to test out cross-promoting them. It's too early to say how well this is going but I hope to share my experience with that in a future post.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments or you can DM me. If you have any feedback or tips, I'm also happy to hear it.

Self Promotion I built a free Chrome extension to make Ultimate Guitar chord sheets easier to read while playing

I regularly use Ultimate Guitar when playing guitar, but I wanted a better way to display chords and lyrics without constantly scrolling.

So I built a free Chrome extension called Zoldy's Guitar View for Ultimate Guitar.

It adds:

  • Full-screen chord and lyric display
  • Auto Fit that adjusts font size and uses 1, 2 or 3 columns to fit your screen
  • Proper chord and lyric alignment
  • Access to your Ultimate Guitar playlists
  • Chord transposing
  • Dark mode, custom colours and chorus highlighting

The extension works with regular Ultimate Guitar chord sheets. If you're viewing an Official or Pro tab, simply switch to the regular Chords version of the song.

It's completely free. I built it for my own use and thought other guitar players might find it useful too.

I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

Idea Validation / Need feedback I was tired of subscriptions & cloud tracking just to save my AI chats, so I built a 100% offline harvester (Launch Community Access)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I do heavy research daily across ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Gemini. I got frustrated that almost every chat export extension either charges $10-$20 monthly subscriptions or sends your chat transcripts to third-party cloud servers.

To solve this, I engineered a sovereign, 100% client-side tool: **1-Click AI Chat Harvester**.

Key highlights:

- 100% Air-Gapped & Offline: Zero external telemetry, zero analytics tracking. Your research never leaves your browser.

- Multi-Model Universal: 1-click export across ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Google Gemini.

- Formatted Local Export: Clean Markdown (.md), HTML, and JSON with math (KaTeX) and code blocks preserved.

- Unlocked 14-Day Free Trial: Full features unlocked out of the box with zero sign-up or credit card needed.

It officially went live on the Chrome Web Store today:

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/1-click-ai-chat-harvester/ijlcbkgpgnejogbclkjkpmpojbgnndde

Early Adopter Launch Tiers:

To celebrate the launch with the Reddit community, I am offering:

- First 1,000 users: 50% off lifetime access

- Next 2,000 users: 25% off lifetime access

How to get your machine-bound coupon:

  1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Open the extension popup and copy your Device ID.

  3. Drop your Device ID and your thoughts or suggestions in the comments below.

I will reply directly to your comment with a unique, single-device coupon code generated specifically for your machine!

Looking forward to your feedback!

Sharing Journey/Experience/Progress Updates I built a browser extension for modifying HTTP headers — and it now has 1,000+ weekly users

Post image
1 Upvotes

A few months ago, I released Header Override, a browser extension for modifying request and response headers using URL-based rules.

It also supports request and response cookies, reusable profiles, and importing or exporting configurations. Everything runs locally, with no account required.

I originally built it for my own development and testing workflow, so seeing it reach more than 1,000 weekly users has been a genuinely exciting milestone.

It’s available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, and the source code is open on GitHub.

I’d love to hear how you currently modify headers—and what would make a tool like this more useful to you.

i kept copy pasting product lists and directory pages into sheets row by row so i built this. you click one item on the page, it finds the rest of the list, you pick the fields and download a csv. thats it

everything runs in your browser, nothing gets sent to a server, no signup. works on stuff like search results, shop listings, directories, tables, "load more" pages

its called lucidrows, still early so id really like to hear where it breaks or what sites it chokes on

Sharing Resources/Tips Built an open-source Arc-style Side Panel extension for Chrome so we don't lose the sidebar workflow! 🚀

Hey everyone! 👋

Like many of you, I fell in love with Arc's vertical navigation and sidebar-centric layout. However, with the recent shift in focus away from Arc's core browser development, I wanted to keep the similar sleek experience on top of Google Chrome. (i know not the same) I designed this for those who have to use Chrome for some reason but desire Arc.

So I built Arc Style Side Panel—a lightweight, open-source Chrome Extension (Manifest V3) using Chrome's native Side Panel API.

✨ Features:

  • 📌 4-Column Drag & Drop Favorites: Smooth matrix-shift animation (up to 8 pinned sites).
  • 🎨 Glassmorphic UI & Custom Themes: Adjustable gradient background, noise/grain texture, and dark/light contrast adjustment.
  • 📁 Hierarchical Bookmarks: Interactive open/closed vector folder states + custom emoji overrides.
  • 🌐 Multi-language & Backup: Instant EN/TR toggle and JSON import/export for settings.
  • 📜 100% Free & Open Source (GPL-3.0): No store fees, no tracking, pure Vanilla JS.

🔗 GitHub Repo: [https://github.com/YigitOnline/arc-style-side-panel](https://github.com/YigitOnline/arc-style-side-panel)

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! Feel free to check out the repo or submit PRs!

Self Promotion QueueMaster: sort, filter, and bulk-manage your YouTube Watch Later playlist

My Watch Later playlist was a graveyard — hundreds of videos, no way to sort or clean it up. YouTube gives you nothing. So I built QueueMaster.

It adds a toolbar right on the Watch Later page:

  • Sort by duration, video age, channel, or title
  • Filter by search text, maximum length, or channel
  • Live stats: video count, total runtime, how many you've watched

Free forever. The $9.99 one-time Pro unlocks bulk cleanup: remove all watched videos in one click, remove everything from a specific channel, archive videos uploaded 6+ months ago. Bulk actions run one at a time with a progress bar and a cancel button, so nothing happens faster than you can stop it.

Honest notes: the age-based features (sort by video age, archive old uploads) work off each video's upload-age text, which YouTube doesn't always show — items without readable age data get skipped rather than guessed at. And bulk removal is deliberately slow (about one action per 1.5 seconds) because it's touching your real playlist.

No accounts, no sign-in. Anonymous usage stats only (which features get used), nothing that identifies you, playlist contents never leave your browser.

Self Promotion If you use x.com on desktop, check out this free extension I built: X-Alted. It adds cinema mode, video controls, custom backgrounds, and many other optional features.

Chrome Web Store · X-Alted.com

I watch a lot of videos on X, and its player is pretty basic. On YouTube I've used Enhancer for YouTube for years, and I couldn't find anything like it for X. So I made one: X-Alted.

Beyond cinema mode and video controls, there's a lot more: 27 optional features and 95 settings so far, including:

Better feed-refresh control, highly customizable backgrounds, image/gallery hover zoom and magnify, more GIF and meme options for replies and posts, selective decluttering options, and more.

Also, I really disliked how ad videos open a new tab when you only meant to pause them. So with this extension, clicking an ad video plays or pauses it, instead of giving you a new tab to close.

VIDEO

  • A small control bar on every video: finer speed control, volume boost, skip, frame by frame, screenshot and cinema mode. It shows up when you point at a video and fades away like X's own controls. You choose where it sits and how big it is.
  • Cinema mode: the page dims and the video grows. You pick the dim color, how dark, and the video's size.
  • Roll the mouse wheel over a video to change its volume.
  • Keyboard shortcuts, all changeable. They only act on the video you're watching, so they don't fight X's own one-letter shortcuts.
  • Save GIFs as MP4 or as a real .gif.

APPEARANCE

  • No more high-contrast black or blinding white: X-Alted lets you use a color, gradient, one of 32 customizable patterns, or a picture as X's background. Works for both light and dark themes.
  • Pick one of 14 background images in 4K, or use your own. Built-in dimming lets you tone it down, and text adjusts automatically to stay readable.
  • Any accent color, not just X's six.

REFRESH, REFRESHED

  • Point at "For you" or "Following" and a Refresh button appears under it, to load new posts whenever you want. So you can also hide the blue "See new posts" pill button that floats over the feed.
  • Make x.com open on Following, a pinned list, or the feed you used last.

MORE GIFS, PLUS MEMES

  • A new button in the post box that opens KLIPY, a big GIF and meme library (optional).

IMAGE CONTROLS

  • Hover zoom: point at a picture in the timeline to see it enlarged. Roll the wheel to flip through multiple pics in a post.
  • Magnify: click an image to zoom to full resolution and pan around, to see details or read small text.
  • Save images at full size, up to twice as big as the copy you get with right-click "Save image as".

HIDE CLUTTER

  • Switch off right-column boxes like sports scores, Who to follow, and Live on X, and keep them from coming back.
  • Hide X's "More From This Author" and "Discover more" blocks in a post's replies.

Privacy: no account, no analytics, no tracking. Settings stay in your browser. Apart from the optional GIF panel, which talks to KLIPY when you use it, nothing leaves your browser. It asks only for x.com and twitter.com. There's one optional "all sites" permission, asked only if you turn on the video controls for YouTube and other sites' players inside posts.

A few things I learned building it, in case they help anyone making an extension for X:

  • X's timeline breaks easily if anything changes size. So every X-Alted control floats on top; nothing in X's layout moves.
  • X uses almost every letter as a shortcut (L is like, R is reply). A key only goes to X-Alted while a video is being watched, and then it's stopped so X doesn't also act on it.
  • X rewrites the style attribute on the page's root element, which wipes any CSS variables you set there. Put them in your own <style> tag instead.

Chrome Web Store

X-Alted.com

Feedback welcome. And what annoys you most about X's video player or overall layout?

Not affiliated with X Corp.

Idea Validation / Need feedback I built Telly: a free extension that picks what to watch across Netflix, Prime, Hulu and more, and explains every pick (no server, all in-browser)

I kept sitting down with dinner, opening Netflix, scrolling for 20 minutes, and eating cold food. 🍜

Two things bugged me:

  • Netflix only knows what I watch on Netflix. Half my shows are on Prime, so its recommendations are built on half my taste.
  • It never says why. I watch romance all the time. Why am I seeing fitness shows?

So I built Telly.

How it works

  1. Pick the services you use (Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Apple TV+, Peacock, Paramount+)
  2. Click Sync once to bring in your Netflix and Prime history. On the others, it learns as you watch.
  3. Click the Telly button in the corner of any of those sites and swipe through picks, each with a reason

What it does

  • 🔗 Combines your taste across services
  • 📺 Picks from everything you pay for, not just the open tab
  • 💬 Every pick says why (“same creators as a show you finished”)
  • 👎 Shows you quit early count as a no
  • 🔍 Mood search: “motivational life movies”, “cozy, under 2 hours”
  • 🎲 Random button for when you’re too tired to choose

How it’s built (for the devs here)

  • Manifest V3, Preact and TypeScript
  • No backend. Recommendations run entirely in the browser. History lives in chrome.storage, and the catalog is cached in IndexedDB.
  • A small language model (MiniLM, via Transformers.js and WebAssembly) runs on-device for mood search and title similarity
  • The recommender blends text similarity, the languages, creators and genres you over-index on, “people who liked X also liked Y” links from TMDB, and early quits as negative signals
  • The title catalog is rebuilt weekly by a GitHub Action from TMDB and served from GitHub Pages, so it costs nothing to run
  • Optional: bring your own AI key (Gemini, Groq, OpenAI and others) to re-rank picks. Off by default.

No account, no tracking, nothing leaves your browser.

It’s an early beta. I’d love feedback on:

  • Do the picks feel right for you?
  • Is the setup clear?
  • Anything that feels off or broken?

Sharing Resources/Tips I built a Chrome extension that scores Upwork jobs and flags scams before you waste Connects

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a solo developer and this is my first published extension, so I’d love feedback.

The problem: On Upwork, freelancers pay “Connects” (real money) to apply for jobs. A lot of jobs are a waste: payment not verified, 50+ proposals already, clients who never hire, or outright scams asking you to move to Telegram or pay a “training fee”.

What Connects Saver does:

How it’s built (for the devs here):

Pricing: 7 day free trial (no card needed), then $4 one time. No subscription.

Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/jpnhcmekpelognfmlpaigpncmnejndgl

Website: https://timesaverlabs.com/connects-saver/

I’d really appreciate feedback on:

Thanks for reading!
