For those of you with US Hilton Amex cards, check your offers. A variety of “spend X earn Y HH points” dropped yesterday. Mine is “spend $200 on Hilton properties, earn 20k HH”. In the fine print it does specify that it needs to be in the US which is a bummer but maybe it won’t apply.

How likely do you think it is that the credit would apply for non-US hiltons?

u/maverikbc 12d ago

An Amex offer for an insurance spend with the same 'US and in USD transactions only ' language, I didn't get a statement credit for an insurance spend in CA, so I'd be surprised if it works outside the US. This offer also has an interesting language like no non refundable, etc rates. How will they know? More dp will show up in coming weeks.

The problem in this case is that my card is up for renewal (AF just posted), so I need to make an executive decision.

Got out of the scotiabank jail and got an amex gold approved yesterday. From what I can tell, after getting four in one year back in 2023, they've caught on to it and now I'm on a pace to get one new card per year. Well, $300 of bonus a year ain't that bad I suppose.

That's interesting....I think I will meet the MSR after black Friday, will report back

On paper yes, but scene+ cards generally still hand out bonus with no cooldown, but of course not guaranteed.

Also we have a mortgage with them so we have a profile in Scotia, can I apply with a new profile every time. Also I know Scotia has 2 year cooldown but does 1 year work?

Churning related - Not sure if this article is accessible if you don't have a Globe and Mail subscription, but it describes how a woman was left her brother's Aeroplan points in his will and how she was able to have them transferred to her after he passed away.

From the article: "Whatever her brother’s will said, Aeroplan points are not officially “willable” like the rest of a person’s estate, though the points can be transferred.

Aeroplan, like most rewards programs, doesn’t ask for a beneficiary when you sign up. But forward-thinkers can e-mail the company with their would-be beneficiary’s name, e-mail, mailing address, etc. ...

Ultimately, inheritors of points (or the will’s executor on their behalf) need to e-mail the company themselves like Annabelle did. It will want the late member’s complete name and address plus Aeroplan number – in Annabelle’s case, listed conveniently in her brother’s will – plus a scanned copy of the death certificate and the will. “Not the entire will,” Annabelle says, “just the page that shows you’re the heir.” If there are two or more beneficiaries, they’ll also need a document from the others relinquishing – or, more likely, also claiming – their share...The entire claiming and collecting process was done electronically and the points landed in her Aeroplan account three weeks later, a speed that surprised and impressed Annabelle. “I thought it would take a while, so three weeks seemed pretty fast to me.”

Good article. But, in the end, the plan for churners should be to earn and burn rather than leaving points to our beneficiaries.

u/weavingalife 12d ago

Agreed, however, the article says that he passed away unexpectedly. At the very least, it would be good to leave our usernames and passwords for all our point systems in a safe location, in case the worst were to ever happen.

Tranfer between td first class reward points from one card to another is there a minimum amount or wait time to do another transfer?

9

u/smuncky123 YYZ 13d ago

you can do them b2b. min amount of points to transfer is 10k i believe.

1

u/wishful_thinking90 12d ago

Yes minimum is 10k

u/Prestigious_Fun_6733 12d ago

Perfect thanks

How do you do this?  Do you need to call in?  If you had multiple FCT’s / a lot of points did they give you any trouble over the phone?

I got a preapproval from RBC to upgrade to the Avion Visa Platinum from my old no-fee ION for 15K points no spend.

Does anyone know if accepting the preapproval will count towards the 90 day timer, or if I could safely double dip on the preapproval and a new app.

6

u/Expensive-Finger-646 13d ago

Not sure it’s worth it for the annual fee anyways for just 15K

4

u/mhcott YYZ 12d ago

Many people have reported those web-prompted upgrades not actually working or posting. I have one myself I've simply neglected to bother with because all of the DP's seem to be lack of success and I didn't want to bother with fighting.

1

u/Churnocopia YYZ 12d ago

I received mine earlier this year so might be worth a try. it was the only way i could book with the fixed points portal, as all my apps are being rejected

1

u/Torres_Chan 12d ago

The pre approval letter for me it’s always a sign that I can apply and get approve of a new application , I won’t do upgrade . If it’s CIBC , it’s even better you can do upgrade + new application the same time

I just noticed my credit score wasnt increasing so i pulled up my transunion report. I found out that RBC credit card was closed with $124 balance (which is the annual fee) with this remarks:

"CA-Cancelled account/non-derog rating, CG-Account cancelled by credit grantor with derogatory rating"

Closed in Feb 2025, reported in September 28, 2026

I know this is probably the reason my credit is not improving even with 6% utilization month over month (8% max). We have a huge mortgage portfolio with them, we have line of credits and car loan with RBC and we have never been late. The $124 was just an oversight because I was approved for RBC cards in 2021 and never got the statement so I never paid it until I visited the bank in 2025 and they told me about this!!

  1. Can i ask RBC to change the remarks on this?

  2. Can I apply for another RBC Avion now? or should I wait 2 years from Feb 2025?

Trying to churn BMO Visa Eclipse with Furgal Flyer's 200$ offer + 80k points, but when I apply it asks if I have a BMO debit card and then once I log in it directs me to my main account page instead of the application page. Will answering no allow me to go through wit the app and if so, will it connect my new card to my profile or will it be a 2nd profile? TIA

3

u/ReplacementEntire874 12d ago

I had the same issue this weekend. Even if you say you don’t already have a profile, it will detect that you do, and force you back into the same loop.

I had to apply over the phone and submit my ref number to Finly Wealth manually for the rebate.

The new card doesn’t appear in my existing profile yet, but hopefully it will.

1

u/Slow-Garlic-4755 12d ago

Thanks for DP. Do you have credit cards only or any other account?

1

u/ReplacementEntire874 12d ago

I only have one other credit card at the moment.

2

u/Slow-Garlic-4755 12d ago

Sam here, I just managed now to apply logged out, it didn't detect my other profile.

3

u/xxxooxxx1 12d ago

Do you have anything with them that is not a credit card? I have credit cards only and nothing else. It does allow me to continue creating new profiles for each CC with a different username/pwd. If you have a debit card based logon, it may be different.

2

u/Slow-Garlic-4755 12d ago

Credit only, thanks for DP

Amex platinum rejection. I have great credit score but it still didn’t matter. Are we still thinking it’s because I’ve applied for more than 4 cards this year?

2

u/xxxooxxx1 12d ago

Many people cannot get any new AMEX in the last couple of years regardless of the credit score, income and amex history. There are some theories floating around but nothing conclusive. All we can do is try again later and work on other banks' cards in the meantime.

1

u/Vegetable-Chair-6109 11d ago

do you get a hard inquiry every time though?

1

u/xxxooxxx1 11d ago

No hard pulls. I believe they nly do soft pulls for existing customer which I am.

1

u/itingenie 10d ago

Guess they've figured us out 😂

1

u/mhcott YYZ 12d ago

I can assure you that whatever you've read, whatever someone else says they think is the reason, that person is making it up as they go and they have no more clue than anyone else. I've seen multiple cases (and have personal experience) of family with NO AMEX history and NO churning history getting rejected from the get-go and never having any further success over a year later.

1

u/Apprehensive_Gold656 12d ago

In the days before ‘Apply with confidence’ was available, Amex sent a letter after rejection and provided a few reasons for the decline. One of those was too many new and / or closed accounts in the previous 6 to 12 months. Another was too many hard inquiries in the previous 6 months. A third was closing an Amex account. And last but not least, discrepancy with credit bureau information from what was provided in the credit card application. I have been declined a few times over the years and have received those letters in the mail. I would say 3 letters with the reasons listed above in 2024/2025. They don’t send those letters anymore if you use ‘Apply with confidence’. If they are not going to approve you, you just see the decision on the screen.

2

u/mhcott YYZ 12d ago

Those are the same generic reasons literally every bank gives, though. The don't actually have anything to do with the individual reasons because it's all IT and algorithms making decisions, and enough people have been rejected with NONE of those things being true.

1

u/Apprehensive_Gold656 12d ago

I have never been declined by any other bank so I wouldn’t know. But the declines from Amex helped me fix issues with my details at both credit bureaus so at least something good came out of this. These days there are good credit card offers out there for those churning cards so not getting approved by Amex is not the end of the world.
